We revisit the notion of activist persistence against the backdrop of protest communication on Twitter. We take an event-based approach and examine Occupy Gezi, a series of protests that occurred in Turkey in the early summer of 2013. By cross-referencing survey data with longitudinal Twitter data and in-depth interviews, we investigate the relationship between biographical availability, relational and organisational ties, and social and personal costs to persistent activism online and on location. Contrary to expectations, we find no clear-cut relationship between those factors and sustained commitment to participation in the occupation. We show that persistent activist communication did not feed into enduring organisational structures despite the continuous online activity observed during and beyond the peak of the Gezi occupation. The article concludes with reflections on the organisational ramifications of persistent communication and its significance in a political context posing high risks to participation in dissident politics.

We develop a novel characterization of participants’ forecasts with a mixture of normal variables arising from a Markov component. Using this characterization, we formulate five behavioral specifications, including four implied by the diagnostic expectations approach, as well as three implied by REH, and derive several new predictions for Coibion and Gorodnichenko.s regression of forecast errors on forecast revisions. Predictions of all eight specifications are inconsistent with the observed instability of individual CG regressions’ coefficients, based on inflation forecasts from 24 professionals. Our findings suggest how to build on key insights of the REH and behavioral approaches in specifying individuals’ forecasts.

<p>Temporary streams (i.e. streams that temporarily cease to flow) are becoming a hot research topic in hydrology. These streams provide an invaluable contribution to riverine ecosystems, as they host a variety of habitats (from lotic to lentic and terrestrial) which sustain high biodiversity. Temporary streams can be found in different regions of the world and are characterized by strongly heterogeneous flow patterns, from flashy streams that flow only after rainfall events to rivers that episodically experience droughts. Many recent studies investigated temporary streams, originating interesting observational datasets about event-based or seasonal network dynamics. Empirical or conceptual models are usually employed for assessing the main physical drivers of network dynamics in each specific study site.<br>In this contribution, we develop and apply novel theoretical tools to understand how the local statistical properties of each reach of the network affect the catchment-scale variability of the active length. In particular, the Stream Length Duration Curve (SLDC) is proposed to efficiently summarize catchment-scale dynamics of the active length, providing an objective way to quantify network dynamics. The concept of SLDC is applied to a number of Italian headwater catchments, where data about temporal changes in the configuration of the flowing stream are available, providing a clue for the characterization of emergent temporal and spatial patterns of network dynamics. The Stream Length Duration Curve can facilitate comparisons across different catchments an time periods, possibly enabling and objective classification of temporary streams. </p>

Two tectono-thermal metamorphic events, M1-D1 (S1, with associated white mica and chlorite: WM1-Chl1) and M2-D2 (S2, with development of WM2-Chl2), are established from polyphase white mica growth for low-grade units from the Ordovician metasedimentary successions of La Cebila Metamorphic Complex in the Famatinian belt (western-central Argentina). The thermobarometric characterization of the M1 main event was carried out by means of clay-mineral analysis and crystallo-chemical parameter measurements. Epizonal (temperatures between 300 and 400ºC) and low-pressure conditions are suggested for M1 event, based in Kübler index values ranging from 0.23 to 0.17 Δº2θ, white mica b parameter values between 9.004 and 9.022 Å (mean of 9.014 Å, n=16) and Si contents between 3.13-3.29 a.p.f.u. Temperatures of ~180-270ºC are estimated for the M2 event, with Kübler index values ranging from 0.31 to 0.46 Δº2θ. The M1-D1 event of La Cebila could be linked to highstrain heating tectono-metamorphic Ordovician regime recorded in others complexes from Famatinian foreland region of Sierras Pampeanas.

Performing an event-based continuous kinetic Monte Carlo (KMC) simulation, We investigate the growth conditions which are important to form semiconductor quantum dot (QD) in molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) system. The simulation results provide a detailed characterization of the atomic kinetic effects. The KMC simulation is also used to explore the effects of periodic strain to the epitaxy growth of QD. The simulation results are in well qualitative agreement with experiments.
