I should like to offer the following comments about the recent article by Gardner, and others, on the use of racemic epinephrine in croup.
1. Unfortunately the racemic epinephrine was not delivered by IPPB, using a respirator, as by those who have reported impressive successes, albeit uncontrolled, with that method.
2. Based on their initial positive experience with postanesthetic croup, Jordan et al. took the battle directly to the surgeons and won many surgical converts by initially performing the racemic epinephrine procedure only on patients about to undergo tracheotomy.
