Abstract We aimed to clarify the relationship between apolipoprotein C3 (apo-C3) and vascular composition of lesion plaque in stable coronary disease (SCD) before percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and to investigate major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) within 4 years. Data of 98 consecutive patients with SCD who underwent PCI between November 1, 2012, and March 10, 2015, were analyzed. Laboratory evaluation and virtual histology-intravascular ultrasound (VH-IVUS) examination of culprit lesions were conducted before PCI. Patients were divided according to the median apo-C3 value into low apo-C3 (≤8.5 mg/dL) and high apo-C3 (>8.5 mg/dL) groups. VH-IVUS data indicated that the percentage of necrotic core volume (%NC) was significantly higher in the high apo-C3 group than in the low apo-C3 group. Moreover, the %NC significantly correlated with the apo-C3 level (R=0.2109, P=0.037). Kaplan–Meier curve analysis revealed that freedom from MACEs decreased more in the high apo-C3 group than in the low apo-C3 group and in the high %NC group than in the low %NC group. Multivariate Cox hazards analysis showed that the %NC and high apo-C3 were independent predictors of 4-year MACEs. Apo-C3 may be a useful marker for future MACEs in patients with SCD after PCI and contribute to %NC growth.

ABSTRACT: This article evaluated the vital parameters, blood gas measurements, cortisol values and radiological findings of goat kids born at term and prematurely during the first 48 hours of life. For this purpose, 24 kids from 24 goats were used and assigned to groups as follows: Group I, eight kids born through cesarean sections performed at 149 days of gestation; Group II, eight kids born through cesarean sections performed at 143 days of gestation; Group III, eight kids born through cesarean sections performed at 143 days of gestation, whose mothers received 20 mg of dexamethasone. Group I had lower heart rate values than the other groups at 60 minutes after birth. In terms of temperature, there was no difference between the groups. The pH values were reduced shortly after birth, rising at 24 and 48 hours in all animals studied. In terms of the cortisol levels, the values increased significantly at birth (M0), with the highest values obtained in animals in group II. These values decreased at 48 hours after birth in the evaluated goats. The animals belonging to group I showed better radiographic aspects, and throughout the 48 hours of evaluation, all newborns exhibited adequate respiratory adaptation. It can be concluded that antenatal dexamethasone administered at 143 days of gestation did not influence neonatal viability, metabolic or radiographic parameters. The metabolic changes found are consistent with the extrauterine adaptation period that animals in this stage of life.

The homeopathic materia medica includes a number of remedies potentially useful in heart diseases and that could be an effective complementary tool in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. As conventional doctors demand evidence on the efficacy and effectiveness of homeopathic treatment backed with independent laboratory evaluation by accredited specialists, this paper reports the outcome of two patients diagnosed with severe coronary artery disease treated with homeopathic remedies. Keywords: coronary artery disease; low dilutions remedies.
