PurposeThe Method section of research articles offers an important space for researchers to describe their research processes and research objects they utilize. To understand the relationship between these research materials and their representations in scientific publications, this paper offers a quantitative examination of the citation contexts of the most frequently cited references in the Method section of the paper sample, many of which belong to the category of research material objects.Design/methodology/approachIn this research, the authors assessed the extent to which these references appear in the Method section, which is regarded as an indicator of the instrumentality of the reference. The authors also examined how this central measurement is connected to its other citation contexts, such as key linguistic attributes and verbs that are used in citation sentences.FindingsThe authors found that a series of key linguistic attributes can be used to predict the instrumentality of a reference. The use of self-mention phrases and the readability score of the citances are especially strong predictors, along with boosters and hedges, the two measurements that were not included in the final model.Research limitations/implicationsThis research focuses on a single research domain, psychology, which limits the understanding of how research material objects are cited in different research domains or interdisciplinary research contexts. Moreover, this research is based on 200 frequently cited references, which are unable to represent all references cited in psychological publications.Practical implicationsWith the identified relationship between instrumental citation contexts and other characteristics of citation sentences, this research opens the possibility of more accurately identifying research material objects from scientific references, the most accessible scholarly data.Originality/valueThis is the first large-scale, quantitative analysis of the linguistic features of citations to research material objects. This study offers important baseline results for future studies focusing on scientific instruments, an increasingly important type of object involved in scientific research.Peer reviewThe peer review history for this article is available at: 10.1108/OIR-03-2021-0171

COVID-19 Pandemic has been a devastating health issue worldwide. This condition impacts all aspects of life including clinical nursing practice at the hospital. Nurses experience various challenges during their duties.  However, little is known about investigating these challenges. This study aims at investigating problems facing the nurses in the COVID-19 Pandemic. This study used a literature review study design. Several databases were used as follows Science Direct, Proquest, Sage, and Wiley. The inclusion and criteria were clearly described in this method section. The study documented that there were three main themes: challenges, strategy, and nurses' need in the COVID-19 Pandemic. The study needs further exploration in terms of strategies to deal with the challenges. Keywords: nursing care; pandemic; health challenges; nursing practice

The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of the methods section training  and methods overall training motivation achievement shoot lay-up skills in the game of basketball The research is conducted at extracurricular student SMP 4 Watampone ,This study is using  treatment by level 2 x 2. The samples are consisted of 40 student. The technique of data analysis is two ways analysis of variance (ANAVA) and followed by Tuckey's test for significance level of α = 0, 05. The results of this study show that (1) score for method training section (A1) is higher than the method of overall training (A2) at extracurricular student SMPN 1 Watampone ; (2) there is an interaction between practice methods (A) and training motivation (B) shoot lay-up skills in the game of basketball; (3) score of high method section training  (A1B1) is higher than score of high method overall training (A2B1); 4) score of low method section training (A1B2) is lower than score of low method overall training (A2B1)

A common problem regarding the method section in the structure of scientific journals is that they are written in general and not typical. A research method must report the procedures the researcher takes to carry out his research. The contents are not the same as the method descriptions in other studies. Therefore, this paper aims to explain the importance of methods in the structure of writing scientific journal articles. In particular, several methods commonly referred to in theological research are presented descriptively and topically. The conclusion obtained is, with the correct understanding of the research method, lecturers or researchers can produce theological research work that can be accounted for its academic validity. Research contribution: This paper provides insights to lecturers and researchers in writing and formulating methods in scientific journal papers and contributing material in writing scientific papers.

The author was inspired to research his own meals by reading a recent news of the sugar content in Irish Subway’s bread (see Method section). Could his personal dining data at another popular chain restaurant, McDonald’s, be applied under an amplified examination?

The following two chapters show how crucial elements of the educational reforms developed above all by Comenius and propagated by Hartlib and his associates emerged out of common roots in the post-Ramist pedagogical traditions of central Europe. The goal of pansophia—expressed by Comenius as ‘Omnes, Omnia, Omnino’, that is, to teach all things to all human beings thoroughly and completely, by all available means—is the ultimate logical extension of the basic aim of Ramus and the tradition deriving from him: to provide a broader education to a wider segment of the population as quickly, easily, and inexpensively as possible (section 7.i). The means proposed to achieve these goals were also very similar: namely, to produce readily digestible compendia governed by Ramus’ three laws of method (section 7.ii). No less important for Comenius’ pedagogical programme were the praecognita, systemata, and gymnasia which structured Keckermann’s textbooks, together with the lexica added by Alsted. Even the most ‘Baconian’ of Comenius’ textbooks, the famous Orbis sensualium pictus (1658), emerged from a lengthy discussion amongst Hartlib’s friends undertaken in terms far more reminiscent of Keckermann and Alsted than of Bacon himself (section 7.iii).

Abstract This article treats of whether scepticism, in particular Pyrrhonian scepticism, can be said to deploy a method of any kind. I begin by distinguishing various different notions of method, and their relations to the concept of expertise (section 1). I then (section 2) consider Sextus’s account, in the prologue to Outlines of Pyrrhonism, of the Pyrrhonist approach, and how it supposedly differs from those of other groups, sceptical and otherwise. In particular, I consider the central claim that the Pyrrhonist is a continuing investigator (section 3), who in spite of refusing to be satisfied with any answer (or none), none the less still achieves tranquillity, and whether this can avoid being presented as a method for so doing, and hence as compromising the purity of sceptical suspension of commitment (section 4). In doing so, I relate—and contrast—the Pyrrhonists’ account of their practice to the ‘Socratic Method’ (section 5), as well as to the argumentative practice of various Academics (section 6), and assess their claim in so doing to be offering a way of instruction (section 7). I conclude (section 8) that there is a consistent and interesting sense in which Pyrrhonian scepticism can be absolved of the charge that it incoherently, and crypto-dogmatically, presents itself as offering a method for achieving an intrinsically desirable goal.
