Adopting the Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes equation and RNG k-ε turbulent model, the unsteady flow in the double channel pump is simulated with sliding mesh technique. Detecting points in the impeller and volute passages are to capture the pressure fluctuation law at different time. The pressure fluctuation around the outlet of the volute is measured by pressure transducer, then the frequency domain pattern under different conditions comes out. With the Fast Fourier transform (FFT) analysis, the pressure changing law of time domain at the outlet of the volute is investigated under different operating conditions. It shows that the pressure fluctuation in the volute differs under different conditions. The pressure changing law obtained by the numerical simulation at the outlet of the volute accords with the measurement results. Also the pressure fluctuation at the outlet of the volute is closely related to the interaction between impeller and volute.

Gunpowder was released in an instant when the pill fly out of the shell during the firing, and then formed a complicated flow fields about the muzzle when the gas expanded sharply. Using the 2 d axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equation combined with single equation turbulent model to conduct the numerical simulation of the process of gunpowder gass evacuating out of the shell without muzzle regardless of the pill’s movement. The numerical simulation result was identical with the experimental. Then simulated the evacuating process of gunpowder gass of an artillery with muzzle brake. The result showed complicated wave structure of the flow fields with the muzzle brake and analysed the influence of muzzle brake to the gass flow field distribution.

Abstract In this study, the double Laplace Adomian decomposition method and the triple Laplace Adomian decomposition method are employed to solve one- and two-dimensional time-fractional Navier–Stokes problems, respectively. In order to examine the applicability of these methods some examples are provided. The presented results confirm that the proposed methods are very effective in the search of exact and approximate solutions for the problems. Numerical simulation is used to sketch the exact and approximate solution.

Within a European project a high-pressure turbine stage was investigated at DLR, Göttingen. The investigations consisted primarily of experiments carried out in the windtunnel for Rotating Cascades (RGG), but some numerical work was also performed. Detailed measurements were carried out at mid section of a turbine rotor using a Laser-2-Focus device which served as a velocimeter measuring 2D-velocity vectors and turbulence quantities and as a tool to determine the concentration of coolant ejected at the trailing edge of the stator blades. The measurement of coolant concentration downstream of the stator and inside the rotor provided a detailed picture of the stator wake development and its interaction with the moving rotor. Axial measurement locations reached from the stator exit through the rotor to a downstream measurement plane. Measurement results are presented as instantaneous flow values. Unsteady flow vectors and turbulence intensities could be related at 16 time instants representing one rotor blade passsing period to the wake development made visible by the coolant concentration. The measured unsteady flow vectors and unsteady pressures, measured with semi-conductor pressure transducers, are compared with results from a numerical calculation using the Navier-Stokes code “TRACE-U” which allows the computation of the unsteady flow field. The measured steady and unsteady flow quantities served to validate the Navier-Stokes code. A comparison of the wake entropy trajectories outside the blade boundary layers and at the wall gives an impression of the lag between the arrival time of the wake in the freestream near the blade surface and the time the boundary layer quantities at the blade surface itself are affected.

The unsteady flow at the outlet of the high specific speed mixed flow Impeller was studied. The specific speed is 500 (m3/min)1/2 · rpm · m−3/4. The flow is strongly influenced by the impeller blading. The other hand, the flow influences the performance of the stationary vanes downstream of the impeller. The flow path at the outlet of the mixed flow impeller is inclined to the axial direction and is curved in the meridional plane. The study was carried out to develop the 30 MW centrifugal compressor. This compressor is used in the field of the coal gasification, the geothermal power generation, etc. The distributions of flow velocity, pressure and temperature of three dimensional flow were measured using a high sensitive pressure transducer and a total temperature probe. The flow was surveyed across the entire passage at about ten axial locations including endwall boundary layer. A theoretical analysis was also carried out using the linearized Navier-Stokes equation.

The concept of swept blades for a transonic or supersonic compressor was reconsidered by Wennerstrom in the early 1980s. Several transonic rotors designed with swept blades have shown very good aerodynamic efficiency. The improved performance of the rotor is believed to be due to reduced shock strength near the shroud and better distribution of secondary flows. A three-dimensional flowfield inside a transonic rotor with swept blades is analyzed in detail experimentally and numerically. A Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equation is solved for the flow inside the rotor. The numerical solution is based on a high-order upwinding relaxation scheme, and a two-equation turbulence model with a low Reynolds number modification is used for the turbulence modeling. To predict flows near the shroud properly, the tip-clearance flow also must be properly calculated. The numerical results at three different operating conditions agree well with the available experimental data and reveal various interesting aspects of shock structure inside the rotor.

Aiming at hydrodynamic performance prediction for hydroplane motion, numerical simulation calculation for direct route motion of a hydroplane was carried out under FLUENT software platform by using VOF method and RNG k-ε model and solving Navier-Stokes equation. Evolution of ship resistance was obtained as the velocity change, and flow field situation and dynamic pressure variation of hydroplane hull bottom were reflected intuitively. By comparing the results of FLUENT calculation and ship model experiment and theoretical estimation, analyzing, especially wake current, it was verified that numerical simulation calculation of hydroplane direct route motion and hydrodynamic performance prediction based on FLUENT are feasible and precise enough.

Reasonable development and creation of any device in which there is an interaction between the fluid flow and the elements of the flow parts (for example, heat exchangers, transport and power machines, main pipelines), is impossible without detailed information about the characteristics of the flow, about the forces on the surfaces that are around, about vibroacoustic phenomena, etc. Among the various methods of obtaining information about the characteristics of the flow, about the forces on surfaces that are flown around, about vibroacoustic phenomena, an important role is played by theoretical methods that rely on the equation of hydrodynamics and numerous ways to solve them. In this case, the main efforts are aimed at solving the system of Navier-Stokes equations. In this paper, a general method is described for the numerical solution of the problem of unsteady flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in flat channels of an arbitrary shape of heat exchangers. An effective solution to the problem is achieved by using adaptive networks. The mathematical model of the flow is based on the two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations in the variables "flow function - vortex" and the Poissonequation for pressure, which are solved on the basis of the finite-difference method. A numerical simulation of the fluid flow in a flat curvilinear elbow is carried out at the Reynolds number Re = 1000. This form reflects the most characteristic features of the flow paths of various hydraulic machines, heat exchangers, hydraulic and pipeline systems. The presentation of the numerical results was carried out on the basis of the VISSIM graphic processing package. One of the main problems (difficulties) in the numerical solution of problems of mathematical physics is the representation of boundary conditions for regions of arbitrary shape. The implementation of various artificial methods that are now used in the approximation of both the curvilinear boundaries themselves and the boundary conditions on them can lead to significant losses in the accuracy of the solution. This is especially evident in problems in which solutions in the boundary region have maximum gradients. An effective method for solving this problem is the use of adapted grids for the computational domain. The essence of this method lies in the fact that such a coordinate system, not necessarily orthogonal, is found in which the boundary lines (surfaces) of the region coincide with the coordinate lines (surfaces). In the flat case, the computational domain is transformed into a rectangular one, and the limit curve is displayed on the sides of the rectangle. In practice, the problem of constructing an adapted mesh is reduced to finding functions that describe the mappings of the canonical (rectangular) region onto the region for which the problem was originally formulated, that is, for the two-dimensional case, the functions x (ξ, η), y (ξ, η) are determined.
