Microstructures of 0.18wt% nitrogen-contained duplex stainless steel, SUS329J3L brazed in a vacuum furnace of 10-4torr, have been investigated as a function of bonding temperatures (1453-1523K) and holding times (0-1.8ks). An amorphous alloy, MBF50 (Ni-19.5wt%Cr-7.3wt%Si -1.5wt%B), was used as an insert metal. At an early stage at 1453K and 1473k, a morphology change of the insert metal, BN and CrB phase appeared only at the joints. The BN and Cr-Si-N phase were observed at the interface of the joints brazed under other conditions. The volume fraction of BN increased rapidly at an early stage and decreased with increasing holding time. The phase seemed to have been formed by dissolution of the base metal and the diffusion process. BN was formed easily due to the lowest Gibbs free energy. Boron content in liquid insert metal becomes low due to the formation of a large number of BNs at the bonded interlayer by holding for a few minutes at brazing temperature. This caused the rapid isothermal solidification of the liquid insert metal. Thus, it is clear that the isothermal solidification process of this bonding is controlled by the formation of boron nitrides as opposed to the diffusion process of depressant elements(B and Si) in the base metal.

ABSTRACT Compounds present in Hafnia alvei cell-free culture supernatant cumulatively negatively influence the early stage of biofilm development by Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis on stainless steel while they also reduce the overall metabolic activity of S. Enteritidis planktonic cells. Although acylhomoserine lactones (AHLs) were detected among these compounds, the use of several synthetic AHLs was not able to affect the initial stage of biofilm formation by this pathogen.

2D and especially 3D symmetry information required to determine the crystal structure of four intermetallic phases present as small particles (average size in the range 100-500nm) in a Fe.22Cr.5Ni.3Mo.0.03C duplex stainless steel is not present in most Convergent Beam Electron Diffraction (CBED) patterns. Nevertheless it is possible to deduce many crystal features and to identify unambiguously these four phases by means of microdiffraction patterns obtained with a nearly parallel beam focused on a very small area (50-100nm).From examinations of the whole pattern reduced (RS) and full (FS) symmetries the 7 crystal systems and the 11 Laue classes are distinguished without ambiguity (1). By considering the shifts and the periodicity differences between the ZOLZ and FOLZ reflection nets on specific Zone Axis Patterns (ZAP) which depend on the crystal system, the centering type of the cell and the glide planes are simultaneously identified (2). This identification is easily done by comparisons with the corresponding simulated diffraction patterns.

Abstract ZERON 100 is a super duplex stainless steel which is manufactured to give a guaranteed corrosion performance by using an equation to control the chemistry in those elements which will determine the corrosion resistance of the material. Major usages in seawater applications, particularly offshore oil gathering systems. This datasheet provides information on composition, hardness, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness. It also includes information on low and high temperature performance as well as heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-555. Producer or source: Weir Material Services Ltd.
