Penicillium sclerotiorum is a distinctive species within the genus Penicillium that usually produces vivid orange to red colonies, sometimes with colorful sclerotia. Here, we report the first draft genome sequence of P. sclerotiorum strain 113, isolated in 2013 in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy from a flooded home in New Jersey.

ABSTRACT In 2003, Streptomyces mexicanus was reported as a novel xylanolytic bacterial species isolated from soil; a partial genome sequence was determined. In 2019, a strain from the same species was isolated from a hand skin swab sample from a healthy French woman. Genome sequencing revealed an 8,011,832-bp sequence with a GC content of 72.5%.

Phialemoniopsis curvata D216 is a filamentous fungus isolated from contaminated diesel fuel. The genome size is 40.3 Mbp with a G+C content of 54.81%. Its genome encodes enzymes and pathways likely involved in the degradation of and survival in fuel, including lipases, fatty acid transporters, and beta oxidation.

ABSTRACT We report a draft genome sequence of extensively drug-resistant (XDR) Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi isolated from a returned traveler from Pakistan who developed sepsis. Whole-genome sequencing revealed relatedness to a previously reported outbreak in Pakistan and identified the blaCTX-M-15 and qnrS resistance genes.

ABSTRACT Here, we report the draft genome sequence of a Clostridium sp. strain isolated from a fecal sample of a 34-year-old adult male in Taiwan. This strain may represent a new bacterium, as suggested by a comparison based on whole-genome sequencing. The genome assembly comprised 6,089,737 bp, with a 45.63% G+C content.

ABSTRACT We announce here the draft genome sequence of Arthrobacter sp. strain EpSL27, isolated from the stem and leaves of the medicinal plant Echinacea purpurea and able to inhibit human-pathogenic bacterial strains. The genome sequencing of this strain may lead to the identification of genes involved in the production of antimicrobial molecules.

ABSTRACT “Pandoraviridae” is a proposed family of the phylum Nucleocytoviricota. Its features include an amphora-shaped capsid and the largest genome among all viruses. We report the isolation and genome sequencing of a new member of this family, named Pandoravirus japonicus, the third strain discovered in Japan.

The basidiomycetous smut fungus Ustilago trichophora  RK089 produces malate from glycerol. De novo genome sequencing revealed a 20.7-Mbp genome (301 gap-closed contigs, 246 scaffolds). A comparison to the genome of Ustilago maydis  521 revealed all essential genes for malate production from glycerol contributing to metabolic engineering for improving malate production.

Aspergillus lentulus , a sibling species of Aspergillus fumigatus , has been reported as a causative agent of aspergillosis, and exhibited low susceptibility to azole. Here, we present the draft genome sequence of A. lentulus strain IFM 54703 T for the first time.
