Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are present in our lives, and although they are mostly connected to military purposes, they are becoming more present in the commercial and civilian sector. Possible applications of UAVs in the commercial and civilian sector will open new possibilities for further research and development of UAVs. This movement can bring new investment and new jobs, but at the same time, it will influence the way some activities are being done now. The use of UAVs brings savings in the production cycles and improve current operations in various industrial sectors. The chapter gives a definition and explains different types and potential applications of unmanned aerial vehicles in the word as well as the potential economic impact of their development and use. In the second part, the chapter analyzes the application of drones in Turkey and Croatia. Although different in terms of their size and the number of inhabitants, both countries are at the same level in relation to UAV application. Applications in both countries are compared, and after that, a conclusion is drawn.

Abstract The disastrous events of land flooding prompt an urgency to flood risk management to counterpart this issue with the concept of flood damage divided into four types: direct, indirect, tangible, and intangible. This paper reviewed previous articles regarding flood risk management with a specific focus on methods used for socio-economic impact assessment towards ensuring a sustainable environment. The methodological approach can be sorted into four (4) main types group which are i) historical disaster statistic method, ii) index system method, iii) scenario simulation analysis, and iv) GIS-based approach. Among others, the integrated GIS-based approach becomes the most practical method in conducting socio-economic assessment for flood risk impact. As most of the socio-economic impact-based studies are conducted in western countries, this paper proposed the idea that for different types of countries such as the Asian countries, differences in topography, weather and seasons will lead to a different scale or possibly different types of socio-economic impact, which may require a new approach of assessing the impact. It is also proposed that any socioeconomic and environmental impact assessment needs to explicitly consider both direct and indirect impact. This is to ensure the approach used is holistic, valid, reliable, and more accurately reflect the real nature of the respective flood risk while the gap of the studies also can be identified.

Political risk is the risk related to the outcome of political decisions. Such risk comes in many forms and is likely to be important for many firms and individuals. Still, political risk is relatively little analyzed, possibly because it is difficult to quantify and model. In this paper, different types of political risk are discussed, and a model is outlined for how such risk could be measured, analyzed, and coped with from a practical perspective. Finally, the paper provides a brief discussion of whether and how governments should try to reduce this political risk.

This report provides measurement of the 2008 economic impacts of the film and video production and distribution industry on the Charlotte regional economy. Officially known as the Charlotte USA Region, this 16 county area is one of Americas fastest-growing metropolitan regions and supports a well established and expanding film and video production and distribution industry. Four different types of economic impacts generated by the film and video production and distribution industry were estimated based on the 2008 information. These impacts include: (1) output impacts; (2) employment impacts; (3) employee and freelancers compensation impacts; and (4) value added impacts. The results are disaggregated to identify the direct economic impact of the film and video production and distribution industry, the indirect (supply chain) impact of the industry, and the induced (re-spending) impact of the industry. The total impact of the industry is then the sum of direct, indirect, and induced impacts.

The Laplace transform of the extinction time is determined for a general birth and death process with arbitrary catastrophe rate and catastrophe size distribution. It is assumed only that the birth rates satisfyλ0= 0,λj> 0 for eachj> 0, and. Necessary and sufficient conditions for certain extinction of the population are derived. The results are applied to the linear birth and death process (λj=jλ, µj=jμ) with catastrophes of several different types.

Abstract We argue that Tomasello's account overlooks important psychological distinctions between how humans judge different types of moral obligations, such as prescriptive obligations (i.e., what one should do) and proscriptive obligations (i.e., what one should not do). Specifically, evaluating these different types of obligations rests on different psychological inputs and has distinct downstream consequences for judgments of moral character.

Previous freeze fracture results on the intact giant, amoeba Chaos carolinensis indicated the presence of a fibrillar arrangement of filaments within the cytoplasm. A complete interpretation of the three dimensional ultrastructure of these structures, and their possible role in amoeboid movement was not possible, since comparable results could not be obtained with conventional fixation of intact amoebae. Progress in interpreting the freeze fracture images of amoebae required a more thorough understanding of the different types of filaments present in amoebae, and of the ways in which they could be organized while remaining functional.The recent development of a calcium sensitive, demembranated, amoeboid model of Chaos carolinensis has made it possible to achieve a better understanding of such functional arrangements of amoeboid filaments. In these models the motility of demembranated cytoplasm can be controlled in vitro, and the chemical conditions necessary for contractility, and cytoplasmic streaming can be investigated. It is clear from these studies that “fibrils” exist in amoeboid models, and that they are capable of contracting along their length under conditions similar to those which cause contraction in vertebrate muscles.

Various types of intermediate-sized (10-nm) filaments have been found and described in many different cell types during the past few years. Despite the differences in the chemical composition among the different types of filaments, they all yield common structural features: they are usually up to several microns long and have a diameter of 7 to 10 nm; there is evidence that they are made of several 2 to 3.5 nm wide protofilaments which are helically wound around each other; the secondary structure of the polypeptides constituting the filaments is rich in ∞-helix. However a detailed description of their structural organization is lacking to date.

In polyethylene single crystals pairs of black and white lines spaced 700-3,000Å apart, parallel to the [100] and [010] directions, have been identified as microsector boundaries. A microsector is formed when the plane of chain folding changes over a small distance within a polymer crystal. In order for the different types of folds to accommodate at the boundary between the 2 fold domains, a staggering along the chain direction and a rotation of the chains in the plane of the boundary occurs. The black-white contrast from a microsector boundary can be explained in terms of these chain rotations. We demonstrate that microsectors can terminate within the crystal and interpret the observed terminal strain contrast in terms of a screw dislocation dipole model.
