A convenient route to the synthesis of the first bis(ferrocenyl carboxylato) telluranes has been developed. Reactions of 1,1,2,3,4,5,6-heptahydro-1,1-(dihydroxo)tellurane and 1,1,2,3,4,5-hexahydro-1,1-(dihydroxo)tellurophene with ferrocene carboxylic acid give 1,1,2,3,4,5,6-heptahydro-1,1-bis(ferrocenyl carboxylato)tellurane (3) and 1,1,2,3,4,5,-hexahydro-1,1-bis(ferrocenyl carboxylato)tellurophene (5), respectively. The X-ray structure of 3 shows that it contains a tellurium heterocycle (C5H10Te), present in a chair conformation, sandwiched between two ferrocene units with carboxylate groups acting as spacers. Compound 3 also exhibits modest second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency. The electrochemical studies of 3 and 5 through cyclic voltammetry show only one oxidation wave, indicating the presence of independent redox centers leading to reversible single-step two-electron redox systems.Key words: tellurane, ferrocenylcarboxylate, SHG efficiency, electrochemistry.

An investigation of second harmonic (SH) and X-ray emissions from Al plasmas produced by 3-ns, 1.064-μm laser pulses at 1014 W/cm2 is reported. The SH and X-ray yields are strongly correlated as a function of the target position with respect to the laser beam focus. The SH originates from the underdense coronal plasma and has a filamentary source, while the X-ray source is uniform. The results suggest that, although the X-ray emission is significantly enhanced by the filamentation of the laser light in the corona, there is a smoothing effect in the energy transport process toward the overdense region.

L-Histidine Barium Chloride dihydrate (LHBC), a semi organic nonlinear optical material was grown from aqueous solution by slow solvent evaporation method at room temperature.  The LHBC crystals were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction analysis.  The presence of functional groups was identified through Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy.  Thermogravimetric and Differential Thermal Analysis confirm that the crystal is stable up to 269oC.  The mechanical properties of the grown crystals have been studied using Vickers microhardness test.  The second harmonic generation behavior of LHBC crystal was tested by Kurtz-Perry powder technique.

A new nonlinear optical organic compound, namely, L-histidinium 2-nitrobenzoate (abbreviated as LH2NB (I); ([C6H10N3O2]+ [C7H4NO4]−)), was synthesized. The molecular structure of LH2NB (I) was elucidated using single crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of this compound is about two times that of the standard potassium dihydrogen phosphate crystals.

AbstractL-cysteine hydrogen fluoride (LCHF) single crystals were grown from aqueous solution. Single crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR, UV-Vis-NIR, and TG-DTA were used to test the grown crystals. The specimen dielectric and mechanical behaviors were also studied. Powder X-ray diffraction of the grown crystal was recorded and indexed. The optical properties of the LCHF crystal were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy. It was found that the optical band gap of LCHF was 4.8 eV. The crystal functional groups were identified using FT-IR. Second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency of the LCHF was three times higher than that of KDP. The dielectric constant, dielectric loss and AC conductivity were measured at different frequencies and temperatures.

2-((E)-((4-((4-methoxyphenyl)ethynyl)phenyl)imino)methyl-4-((E)phenyldiazenyl)phenol (1) have been synthesized and characterized. X-ray single crystal diffraction study of the compound 1 reveal a monoclinic structure. Room temperature luminescence is observed for 1 in CH2Cl2 solution due to π* → π transition. The SHG efficiency by Kurtz powder technique indicating the compound 1 displayed the second harmonic generation (SHG) property.

The starting material 3-nitro-2-acetylnaphtho[2,1-b]furan (2) was obtained by nitration of 2-acetylnaphtho[2,1-b] furan (1), under mild condition. The compound 1 was synthesized by the reaction of 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde with chloroacetone, where in both condensation and cyclization took place in single step. The reaction of 3-nitro-2-acetylnaphtho[2,1-b]furan (2) with hydrazine hydrate produced corresponding hydrazone (3) in excellent yield, which on treatment with various aromatic aldehydes under different reaction conditions resulted in the formation of symmetrical azines (4a-e) and unsymmetrical azines (5a-e). All the newly synthesized compounds have been characterized by analytical and spectral studies and were screened for antibacterial antibacterial activity againstBacillus subtilusandAlcaligenes fecaliesand antifungal activity againstAspergillus nidulans, Aspergillus parasiticusandAspergillus terrus. The Second Harmonic Generation (SHG) efficiency of some of the synthesized compounds was measured by powder technique using Nd:YAG laser.

Complexes of 2,3-dimethoxybenzoates of Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) have been synthesized as hydrated or anhydrous polycrystalline solids and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, FIR and electronic spectroscopy, magnetic studies and X-ray diffraction measurements. The carboxylate groups bind as monodentate or symmetrical, bidentate chelating and bridging ligands. The thermal stabilities were determined in air. When heated they dehydrate to form anhydrous salts which are decomposed to the oxides of the respective metals. The magnetic susceptibilities of the complexes were measured over the range 77?300 K and the magnetic moments were calculated. The results show that the complexes of Ni(II) and Co(II) are high-spin complexes and that of Cu(II) forms a dimer.

The synthesis of N-[4-(2-hydroxyethyl)-1,2,4-oxathiazinan-3-ylidene]-benzamide (2a) and N-[4- (2-hydroxyethyl)-1,2,4-oxathiazinan-3-ylidene]-2-fluorobenzamide (2b) by oxidation of the corresponding 1,1-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-3-aroylthioureas with potassium iodate in aqueous solution is reported. Variable temperature 1H NMR spectra of 2a prove that the heterocyclic 1,2,4-(O, S,N) sixmembered ring is involved in a dynamic chair-boat conformational interconversion. Molecular mechanic calculations show that the chair conformation is more stable than the boat conformation by 3.0 kcal/mol. The synthesis of the adduct [(2a)·0.5 HgCl2] 3 as well as the X-ray structural characterization of 2a and 3 are also reported.
