The special using condition of high-power three-level explosion-proof inverter limits its cooling system within heat pipe and water-cooled cooling systems. How to calculate these two systems quantitatively to provide references for engineering application becomes one of the critical problems. In this paper, the principle of three-level explosion-proof was introduced first, and the power-loss generation theory was described and deduced into equations. Secondly, the heat pipe cooling system theory calculation was conducted based on the power losses of power devices, and the whole cooling system model was built by using finite element analysis. Finally, the temperature rise experiment was carried out on a 1 MW high-power three-level explosion-proof inverter, and the results proved the feasibility of this theory and its accuracy of analysis.

A key problem in engineering application of “design by analysis” approach is how to decompose a total stress field obtained by the finite element analysis into different stress categories defined in the ASME Code III and VIII-2. In this paper, we suggested an approach to separate primary stress with the principle of superposition, in which the structure does not need to be cut into primary structure but analyzed as a whole only with decomposed load. Taking pressurized cylindrical vessel with plate head as example, the approach is demonstrated and discussed in detail. The allowable load determined by the supposed method is a little conservative than that determined by limited load analysis.

This paper discussed the theoretical analysis and engineering improvement test verification of the crack problem in the back van of the vehicle. Causes that may result in the crack problem are firstly analyzed and then determined by the finite element analysis. Improvement are given and proved to be effective by the test verification of an improved vehicle. The method used in this paper will contribute to the analysis and solution of the crack problems in some parts of the vehicle and has reference value in engineering application.

A numerical investigation was conducted to determine the mechanical behavior of C/SiC composites bolt under room temperature and elevated temperature. The influence of the contact friction coefficient on the stress and displacement was considered in the finite element analysis. The FEA results provided some valuable data for the engineering application of C/SiC composites bolt.

Emissions such as Nox and CO resulting from the combustion of the diesel engines in the commercial vehicles leads to environmental degradation and ozone layer depletion. Alarming environment trend forces the government institutions to develop and enforce strict emission laws for the next generation transportation vehicles. Stricter emission laws mean higher operating pressure, temperature, reduced weight, tight packaging space, engine downsizing etc. Engine cooling systems are the critical components in the managing the engine cooling requirement of the commercial vehicle. Generally engine cooling system includes radiator, charge air cooler, engine oil cooler etc. Product development of thermal management system using the traditional design process takes more time, resource and money. To solve the complex design problem, numerical technique such as finite element analysis is performed upfront in the product development of the radiator to evaluate the structure behaviour under mechanical loading. In this paper, internal static pressure analysis of a radiator is presented to showcase the benefits of using the finite element technique earlier in the product design phase. Pressure cycle life at a critical joint of the radiator is calculated using strain-life approach. Finite element analysis aids in visualization of the hot spots in the design, comparing different design options with less turnaround time. Experimental testing and prototypes can be reduced. Risk of a product being failed is greatly minimized by performing the numerical simulation.

Stability of a gantry crane was a challenge in its structure design. A new risk-based stability assessment approach was proposed in this paper. Analytical method was introduced firstly, and then finite element method was adopted to evaluate the stability of square bar. In order to verify the finite element models, results of buckling analysis were compared with the results of analytical method. Secondly, this finite element analysis was applied in stability assessment of a gantry crane, and through parameterized analysis risk elements were identified. Finally, risk-based stability assessment was applied to this gantry crane, and neural network algorithm was adopted to evaluate the risk elements which were defined by finite element analysis. The evaluating results were well consistetent with statistical data, which indicated this risk-based stability assessment approach was reliable which showed a potential in engineering application.

Taking into account the problem of plenty repeated works during the operation of engineering application software, the integrated solution of engineering application software based on EASA (the encapsulate tools of software) was proposed for improving the analysis efficiency and ensuring the analysis accuracy of software purpose. Then taking the strength analysis of bogie’s side frame as an example, the integrated analysis interface of strength analysis about side frame was established, realized the remote invocation based on Web, and the efficiency of engineering analysis was improved.
