PurposeThis article examines the interventions from municipality, state and other actors in the Gellerup estate, a Danish “ghetto” by focusing on the youth problem and its construction, by examining a cross-disciplinary academic workshop intending to “solve the youth problem” of the estate.Design/methodology/approachThe article is based on the two authors' participation in the academic workshop, as well as their continued engagement with the Gellerup estate through separate project employments and ethnographic research projects in the estate, consisting of both participant observation and interviews.FindingsIn the article the authors suggest that the 2015 workshop reproduced particularly the category of idle urban young men as problematic. The authors analyze this as a form of “moral urban citizenship”. The article also analyzes some of the proposed solutions to the problem, particularly architectural transformations, and connects the Danish approach to the problems of the “ghetto” to urban developments historically and on a global scale.Originality/valueCross-disciplinary academic attempts to solve real-world problems are rarely incorporated as ethnographic data. In this article the authors attempt to include part of their own practice as academics as valuable data that opens up new perspectives on a field and their own involvement and analysis of it.

The research featured the biography of Alexander A. Semenov (1873–1959), an outstanding expert in Asian Studies, who made a great contribution to Soviet and global oriental scholarship. The paper focuses on his work at the Turkestan Committee for Museums and Protection of Antiquities, Art, and Nature (Turkomstaris) and the Central Asian Committee for Museums and Protection of Antiquities, Art, and Nature (Sredazkomstaris) in 1921–1928. The research involved articles published by A. A. Semyonov in 1926 and 1928 in the Proceedings of the Central Asian Committee, as well as valuable data from publications made by Professor A. M. Mironov and Chairman of Sredazkomstaris D. I. Nechkin. A. A. Semyonov owed his education to the outstanding teaching staff of Lazarev Institute: V. F. Miller, N. N. Kharuzin, F. E. Korsh, and M. O. Attai. His scientific worldview was shaped under the influence of orientalist V. V. Barthold.

This paper discusses a few issues concerning diodes and their application in electric circuits. Considering voltage and current restrictions, experimental and theoretical efforts are made to safely apply semiconducting diodes in circuits working with large current regimes. Combinations of diodes and protecting resistors connected in series and parallel have demonstrated to be of great help with the task of controlling electric currents. To this aim, several activities have enabled participants to observe and measure, or to calculate and display valuable data. Therefore, important class conclusions are stated.

Although organizations recognize the potential of “big data,” implementation of data analytics processes can consume a considerable amount of resources. The authors propose that when organizations are considering this costly and often risky investment, they need a systematic method to evaluate the costs of data collection associated with the implementation of a new data and analytics (D & A) strategy or an expansion of an existing effort. Therefore, in this article, a new dimension of big data is proposed which is incorporated into a theoretically justified and systematic method for quantifying the costs and benefits of the data collection process. By estimating the worth of data, organizations can more efficiently focus on streamlining the collection of the most beneficial data and jettisoning less valuable data collection efforts.

The unprecedented pace in vaccine research and clinical development have provided a number of COVID-19 vaccines now widely used and many more candidates are currently in clinical development. While vaccination has been picking up, the emergence of variants and the continued spread of COVID-19 in some regions of the world have resulted in vaccine breakthrough infections. The early insights from epidemiological studies as well as genomic surveillance of vaccine breakthrough infections have provided unique and valuable data. Despite the ample paucity of data regarding breakthrough infections due to under-reporting and lack of uniform testing and reporting measures, here we try to navigate the different aspects of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, breakthrough infections and the various other factors that could influence them.

Abstract Utilizing adolescents' drawings to investigate their perceptions of self has a long history in psychology. The methodological approach is particularly useful in places, such as Guatemala, where the population may have relatively lower levels of literacy and/or less experience engaging with Western-style research surveys. By asking adolescents to draw a picture of themselves and list five characteristics that they hope to have in 15 years, we were able to collect valuable data on issues such as the students' desires for the future and what they see as possible for themselves. Participants ( N = 81, M age = 14.56 years, 49.4% cisgender girls, all from Jocotenango, Guatemala) provided five characteristics that they hoped to have 15 years in the future and then drew a self-portrait of themselves 15 years in the future. The drawings and characteristics underwent a process of thematic analysis to determine patterns and themes that are prevalent in the data. Common themes that emerged include jobs or specific professions they hope to have, owning a home or property such as a car, and having a family. In the drawings, the common themes are similar: mentioning specific careers, owning a home or property, and having a family. These data can help us determine what type of future these students hope for to ensure that schools and other institutions are providing the tools students will need for those futures.

This thesis represents an attempt to exmine critically the theory of child mentality put forward by Professor Jean Piaget of Geneva. By experiment and observation Piaget has collected much valuable data from the children attending the Maison des Petits de l'Institute Rousseau: his results together with a somewhat novel theory to explain them are contained in his four volumed "The Language and Thought of the Child," "Judgegment and Reasoning in the Child," "The Child's Conception of the world " and "The Child's conceptoin of Causuality."

Introduction. The article examines additional comments (1929–1932) made by Professor N. N. Palmov on his Essays on the History of the Volga Kalmyks (1926). Goals. The study seeks to introduce this new material which shows the scholar’s persistent interest in the subject and, at the same time, contributes to a better understanding of the history of the Kalmyk Khanate. Materials and Methods. The research involved the identification of the chronological framework of the handwritten material, its categorization into thematic blocks, and contribution to the subject. Results. In the library of Astrakhan State Museum of Historical Archives, the authors discovered thirty seven handwritten additions made by Palmov on the pages of his copy of Essays on the History of the Volga Kalmyks, vols. I–II. These were made between 1929 to 1932 when the scholar apparently continued his studies on the subject using the materials of Astrakhan Kalmyk Archives and scientific literature. The author’s comments covering the period up to the 1760s contain valuable data on the 1702 conflict between Khan Ayuka and his sons and provide detail on the feudal conflict of 1724. Also, Palmov provides additional evidence on Noyon Donduk-Ombo’s activities during the period of feudal wars and, later, when he was Kalmyk Khan. Finally, the comments include important data on the foreign policy of the Kalmyk Khanate, chiefly the history of its interaction with the Dzungar Khanate in the 17th–18th centuries. Conclusions. Palmov’s handwritten comments discovered on the pages of his Essays on the History of the Volga Kalmyks are a significant contribution to his scientific heritage that sheds light on the history of feudal strife in the Kalmyk Khanate in the 1720s–1730s.

As a means of collecting materials, the search and seizure of objects and documents is of undeniable importance in criminal evidence, providing valuable data that serve to establish the existence or non-existence of the crime, to identify the perpetrator, to establish guilt and other circumstances essential to the just settlement of the case. The present study, in the light of the proportionality test, reflects on the application of several evidentiary procedures, based on multiple criteria, in particular, the assessment of the reasonable doubt, the proportionality between the evidentiary procedure used and the degree of the incriminated deed; the relevance of the materials collected as a result of the evidentiary procedure and the excessive use of force, in carrying out the search.
