The electrical and magnetic properties of ( Y 1-x-y Zr x Ca y) Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ ceramics are investigated by using resistivity, ac and dc susceptibility measurements. X-ray powder diffraction has been used to find the lattice parameters of the samples. The samples are orthorhombic, except the sample with x=0.15 and y=0.2 which is tetragonal. All the samples are superconducting. There is no significant change in Tc for the Zr-doped ( Y 1-x Zr x) Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ samples, while for the ( Y 0.85-y Zr 0.15 Ca y) Ba 2 Cu 3 O 7-δ compounds the Tc decrease with the dopant content and they show temperature dependent dc magnetic susceptibility, in the normal state.

ABSTRACTThe compounds La1−xBaxTiO3 (0 ≤ × ≤ 1) have been prepared by arc melting stoichiometric amounts of LaTiO3 and BaTiO3. Single phase samples can be made for the entire stoichiometry range. The polycrystalline samples have been characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis, X-ray powder diffraction, and temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility. This series of compounds has been studied as a possible candidate for an early transition metal superconductor.

ABSTRACTLa-Ba-Cu-O and Y-Ba-Cu-O superconducting systems have been successfully prepared by gel techniques with high degree of chemical homogeneity. The precursor gel was synthesized from mixture of the corresponding metallic nitrates and di-carboxylic acids. The sintered oxides prepared from the different dicarboxylic acids were all Tc = 90K perovskite superconductors. However differences in electrical and magnetic properties were also observed. Effects due to the different acids elucidated by magnetic susceptibility measurements and X-ray diffraction analysis will be discussed.

We report here normal and superconducting properties of ABa 2 Cu 3 O 7−δ (with A=Y, Gd, Dy, and Er) and of Fe doped YBa2Cu3O7−δ . Results from X-ray powder diffraction, electrical resistivity, magnetic susceptibility, ESR, and specific heat measurements are presented, leading to a characterization of the magnetic properties of these materials. The effect of structural modifications of the lattice on the superconducting properties and the relative insensitivity of Tc to the presence of magnetic moments is discussed.

The tetracupferronato-bis(μ-methoxy)-diiron(III) complex has been synthesized in acetonitrile and its crystal structure determined. C26H26N8O10Fe2, monoclinic, space group C2/c, a =18.425(3), b = 12.999(2), c = 15.046(3) Å, β = 124.66(2)°,V = 2964(1) Å3, Z = 4, wR(2) = 0.097 from 1491 reflections (F2). Two iron(III) atoms are at special positions in six-fold coordination, bridged by O with a Fe-O-Fe angle of 102.4(1)° and a distance between two iron(III) centers of 3.075(1) Å. Temperature-dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal a antiferromagnetic exchange interaction (J = -14 cm-1) between the iron(III) centers.

Polycrystalline rubidium superoxide (RbO2) has been synthesized by using solution method followed by the reaction process under the cooling condition of-40 °C. X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) spectra showed that RbO2 was successfully synthesized by this method. The magnetic susceptibility and pulsed muon spin relaxation (μSR) measurements were carried out in order to study the magnetic properties of RbO2.

The crystal structure of the (Cr,Ni)4Si phase with and without Co was refined from X-ray powder diffraction data. The compound crystallises with an Au4Al-type structure (Pearson symbol cP20, space group P213): unit-cell parameter a = 0.611959(6) nm for the composition (Cr0.312Ni0.688)4Si, a = 0.612094(6) nm for (Cr0.375Ni0.625)4Si, and a = 0.612316(6) nm for (Cr0.337Co0.063Ni0.600)4Si. The magnetic susceptibility was measured in external fields up to 7 T at temperatures between 1.8 and 400 K. The three investigated samples exhibited paramagnetic behaviour described by the modified Curie-Weiss law: χ0 = 146∙10-6 emu g-at.-1, μeff = 0.21 μB/atom, θP = -13 K for (Cr0.312Ni0.688)4Si; χ0 = 158∙10-6 emu g-at.-1, μeff = 0.20 μB/atom, θP = -15 K for (Cr0.375Ni0.625)4Si; χ0 = 169∙10-6 emu g-at.-1, μeff = 0.18 μB/atom, θP = -52 K for (Cr0.337Co0.063Ni0.600)4Si.

In this research, we report a detailed study of the structural, electrial and magnetic properties of the ruthenium pyrochlore with the composition (Er_2-x Sr_x) Ru_2O_7 0<=x<=0.10 prepared by solid-state reaction in air at ambient pressure.  The synthesized products were characterized using powder X-ray diffraction. The structure of the samples was refined with the Rietveld method, showing that the lattice parameters are more sensitive to the Strontium and Erbium sites. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the crystal size varies between 0.27 and 0.62 mu m. In all polycrystalline samples, the electrical resistance decreases with increasing temperature, indicating that the samples are nonmetallic. The slope of the temperature-dependent resistance profiles systematically decreases with increasing x, proving that the carrier concentration increases with increasing the Sr content. Zero-field-cooled and field cooled magnetization measurements show an irreversible behavior where the split is systematically enhanced by increasing x.

The halogenobismuthates Q3Bi2X9 (Q = EtMe2PhN; X = Cl, Br, I) were prepared by reaction of BiX3 with EtMe2PhNX in ethanol. Single crystal structure determinations yielded: [EtMe2PhN]3[Bi2Cl9], S.G. P212121, Nr. 19, a = 952.5(3), b = 1184.1(4), c = 3726.4(9 pm, Z = 2;[EtMe2PhN]3[Bi2Br9] S.G .P21/c , No. 14, a= 1839.4(4),b= 1329.5(3), c = 1817.3(6)pm, β = 92.68(3)°, Z = 4, [EtMe2PhN]3[Bi2l9], ], S.G . P21/c, No. 14, a = 1915.3(2), b = 1379.0(3), c = 1890.9(5) pm, β = 92.48(1)°, Z = 4. The thermal behaviour was investigated with the aid of DSC measurements and temperature dependent X-ray powder diffraction. All compounds undergo a transition into a high temperature modification which could be obtained in case of [EtMe2PhN]3[Bi2Br9-xIx] in form of single crystals: S.G . P21/c, Nr. 14, a = 1002.7(5), b = 1278.7 (8), c = 3584.3(5) pm, β = 90.12(2)°, Z = 4. Surprisingly in this compound the iodine atoms are not statistically distributed over all possible bromine positions, but occupy only one position. Lattice parameters of the other high temperature modifications and enthalpies of transition of the compounds are given. In addition a second iodobismuthate was isolated:[EtMe2PhN]4[Bi6l22], S.G . P1̄, Nr. 2 , with lattice parameters of a = 1343.4(3), b = 1554.3(3), c = 2262.5(6) pm, a = 100.89(3)°, β = 96.63(1)°, 7 = 98.94(2)° and Z = 2.

The effect of Fe-substitution at the Mn-site in La0.7Ca0.3Mn1-xFexO3 (x = 0, 0.01, 0.03 and 0.05) on its structure, electrical and magnetic properties has been studied. These properties were investigated via X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, temperature-dependent resistance measurements and temperature-dependent AC magnetic susceptibility measurements. XRD analysis showed all samples are single phase materials. Temperature dependent resistance measurements between 30–300 K showed all samples to undergo insulator-metal transition as temperature decreases. Increase in Fe doping for x = 0, 0.01, 0.03 and 0.05 caused the transition temperature TIM to decrease from 257 K, 244 K, 205 K and 162 K respectively. The magnetic susceptibility measurements showed the samples to exhibit paramagnetic to ferromagnetic transition as temperature decreased. Increase in Fe substitution x at the Mn-site progressively decreased the Curie temperature TC from 250 K at x = 0 to 170 K at x = 0.05.
