The elastic and inelastic scatterings of [Formula: see text]-particles were investigated at an energy of 40[Formula: see text]MeV with excitation of low-lying states of the [Formula: see text]B nucleus [0.0 (3/2[Formula: see text]), 4.445 (5/2[Formula: see text]), 6.74 (7/2[Formula: see text]), 2.125 (1/2[Formula: see text]) and 5.02[Formula: see text]MeV (3/2[Formula: see text])]. The analysis of the experimental angular distributions was carried out via the coupled channels method within the framework of the collective model. The value of the quadrupole deformation parameter [Formula: see text] was extracted. Calculations indicate a preference for a negative sign for deformation. It is shown that the exchange mechanism with the transfer of the heavy 7Li cluster does not play an important role in the scattering of [Formula: see text]-particles on [Formula: see text]B nuclei at an energy of 40[Formula: see text]MeV.

We calculate the ground state properties of recently synthesized superheavy elements (SHEs) from Z = 105–118 along with the predicted proton magic Z = 120. The relativistic and nonrelativistic mean field formalisms are used to evaluate the binding energy (BE), charge radius, quadrupole deformation parameter and the density distribution of nucleons. We analyzed the stability of the nuclei based on BE and neutron to proton ratio. We also studied the bubble structure which reveals the special features of the superheavy nuclei.

Elastic and inelastic scattering of [Formula: see text]-particles at 48.1[Formula: see text]MeV and 3He at 60[Formula: see text]MeV on [Formula: see text]O nuclei has been measured with excitation of states at 6.05 (0[Formula: see text])–6.13 (3[Formula: see text])[Formula: see text]MeV, 6.92 (2[Formula: see text])–7.12 (1[Formula: see text])[Formula: see text]MeV and 8.87 (2[Formula: see text])[Formula: see text]MeV. The center-of-mass beam momenta are the same for these two strongly absorbed particles. Analysis of angular distributions was performed in the frameworks of the optical model, the coupled channels method and the Distorted Wave Born Approximation (DWBA). A good description of experimental data was obtained over the full angular range without taking into account the spin-orbit interaction and the cluster transfer mechanism with real potentials that have volume integrals of about 400[Formula: see text]MeV fm3. Collective and microscopic models were used in the analysis of the inelastic scattering. The values of the octupole deformation lengths were extracted. It is shown that nuclear rainbow effects appear not only in the elastic, but also in the inelastic scattering with excitation of the 3[Formula: see text] state of [Formula: see text]O.

Positive-parity states of 28 Si are studied with antisymmetrized molecular dynamics and multi-configuration mixing focusing on clustering and deformations. By superposition of wave functions obtained by energy variation imposing constraints on quadrupole deformation parameter β and distance between α and 24 Mg , and 12 C and 16 O clusters, two oblate bands, two prolate bands and developed α-24 Mg band are obtained. It is found that cluster structure components are contained in those bands.

Effects of cluster correlations on triaxiality have been studied using the antisymmetrized molecular dynamics. Low-lying states in 28 Si and 40 Ca are obtained by the the generator coordinate method (GCM), and the GCM basis are calculated by energy variations with constraints on quadrupole deformation parameter β and inter-cluster distance. The GCM obtain prolate superdeformed (SD) states in 28 Si and triaxial normal-deformed (ND) states in 40 Ca , which contain prolate α-24 Mg and triaxial α-36 Ar cluster structure components, respectively. Different shapes of prolate 24 Mg and oblate 36 Ar clusters cause difference of triaxiality of total systems. Cluster correlations which have oblate cluster enhance triaxiality in excited states.

Decreasing extracellular sodium concentration was found to produce a contractile response of rabbit ileal smooth muscle. As the concentration decreases, the amplitude of contraction increases, thus producing a dose-dependent curve. Harmaline, a competitor for sodium, was found to inhibit the sodium gradient-dependent contractions in a dose-dependent manner. The results are interpreted as harmaline inhibiting a Na–Ca exchange mechanism present in ileal smooth muscle.

For the π-bridged multi-PDI derivatives, intramolecular electron transfer is dictated by the super-exchange mechanism and can be greatly tuned by the π-bridge modes.

Angular distributions of the analyzing power and cross sections have been measured for the elastic and inelastic scattering of 25.25 MeV protons exciting the K = 0+ ground-state band in 28Si. Good agreement with experiment is obtained in the coupled-channels formalism on the basis of the rotational model with a quadrupole deformation β2 = −0.40 (oblate) and a hexadecapole deformation β4 = +0.15. The calculations show the great sensitivity of the experimental results to both the magnitude and sign of the quadrupole and hexadecapole deformations. Equivalent fits of the data were obtained either by keeping the deformation length of the various deformed terms of the optical potential constant (δ0 = β0R0 = βIRI = βLSRLS) or by increasing the deformation of the spin–orbit optical potential relative to the central potential by a factor of 1.5 (βLS = 1.5βcent).
