Effect of copper sulfate on CuZn alloys electroplating from non-cyanide baths are investigated by different electrochemical methods. Cyclic voltammetry and current transient measurements are used to characterize the CuZn alloys electroplating system in order to analyze the nucleation and growth mechanism. The reduction of Cu and CuZn alloy on sheet iron substrates shows an instantaneous nucleation process. However, the reduction of Zn on sheet iron substrates shows a progressive nucleation process. The structure and surface morphology of CuZn alloys are analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The morphology of CuZn alloys obtained with 50 g L-1 copper sulfate presents a smooth and compact deposit and the size of crystal particle is uniform.

Nucleation kinetics of Ni-nanoCr2O3composite coating during early electro-crystallization was investigated. The results showed that, the early electro-crystallization processes of Ni-nanoCr2O3composite coating and pure Ni coating followed a Scharifker-Hill nucleation/growth mechanism. At the low potential, the nucleation process of pure Ni and Ni-Cr2O3composite system may approach to the progressive nucleation model; With the overpotential increasing, the nucleation model of Pure Ni and Ni-Cr2O3composite system converts into the instantaneous nucleation mechanism controlled; at the same overpotential, Cr2O3powder promotes the electro-crystallization nucleation of Ni. But at high negative potential, Cr2O3powder in composite system promotes the electro-crystal nucleation of Ni weakly; the nanoCr2O3powder added reduces the current efficiency in the nucleation process of Ni.

The electrochemical deposition of zinc on single-crystaln-type GaN(0001) from a sulphate solution has been investigated on the basis of electrochemical techniques including cyclic voltammetry, chronoamperometry, and Tafel plot. The morphology and crystal structure of zinc deposits have been characterized by means of scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The result has revealed that the deposition of Zn on GaN electrode commenced at a potential of −1.12 V versus Ag/AgCl. According to the Tafel plot, an exchange current density of ~0.132 mA cm−2was calculated. In addition, the current transient measurements have shown that Zn deposition process followed the instantaneous nucleation in 10 mM ZnSO4+ 0.5 M Na2SO4+ 0.5 M H3BO3(pH = 4).

ABSTRACTSelf-annealing properties of electroplated and sputtered copper films at room temperature were investigated in this study, in particular, the effect of copper film thickness, electrolyte systems used, as well as their level of organic additives for electroplating. Real-time grain growth was observed by transmission electron microscopy. Sheet resistance and X-ray diffraction measurements further confirmed the recrystallization of the electroplated copper film with time. The recrystallization of electroplated films was then compared with that of sputtered copper films.

Although micro-mesoporous composite molecular sieves have received significant attention due to their desirable properties, they still lack systematic studies on their crystallization process to achieve controllable synthesis of composite molecular sieves. In this study, a series of Y/SBA-15 micro-mesoporous composite molecular sieves with different porous structures were synthesized by tuning nucleation temperature, based on epitaxial growth on the outer surface of the Y-type crystal particle. All composite molecular sieves were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Moreover, the effect of nucleation temperature on the structure of composite molecular sieves was investigated, while the crystallization mechanism was also explored. Furthermore, the performance of the molecular sieves on isomerization of n-pentane was investigated, the results suggested that the isomerization selectivity was positively correlated with regularity degree of the mesoporous porous structure, where the highest isomerization reached 95.81%. This work suggests that nucleation temperature plays a key role in structures of micro-mesoporous composite molecular sieves, providing a solid basis for the further development of functional composite molecular sieves.
