Median type filters coupled with the Laplacian distribution assumption have shown a high efficiency in suppressing impulse noise. We however demonstrate in this paper that the Gaussian distribution assumption is more preferable than Laplacian distribution assumption in suppressing impulse noise, especially for high noise densities. This conclusion is supported by numerical experiments with different noise densities and filter models.

The bottleneck assignment (BA) and the generalized assignment (GA) problems and their exact solutions are explored in this paper. Firstly, a determinant elimination (DE) method is proposed based on the discussion of the time and space complexity of the enumeration method for both BA and GA problems. The optimization algorithm to the pre-assignment problem is then discussed and the adjusting and transformation to the cost matrix is adopted to reduce the computational complexity of the DE method. Finally, a synthesis method for both BA and GA problems is presented. The numerical experiments are carried out and the results indicate that the proposed method is feasible and of high efficiency.

In order to resolve engineering problems that the performance of the traditional blind source separation (BSS) methods deteriorates or even becomes invalid when the unknown source signals are interfered by impulse noise with a low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), a more effective and robust BSS method is proposed. Based on dual-parameter variable tailing (DPVT) transformation function, moving average filtering (MAF), and median filtering (MF), a filtering system that can achieve noise suppression in an impulse noise environment is proposed, noted as MAF-DPVT-MF. A hybrid optimization objective function is designed based on the two independence criteria to achieve more effective and robust BSS. Meanwhile, combining quantum computation theory with slime mould algorithm (SMA), quantum slime mould algorithm (QSMA) is proposed and QSMA is used to solve the hybrid optimization objective function. The proposed method is called BSS based on QSMA (QSMA-BSS). The simulation results show that QSMA-BSS is superior to the traditional methods. Compared with previous BSS methods, QSMA-BSS has a wider applications range, more stable performance, and higher precision.

At present, mainly straight grate machines (SGM) and combined facilities grate-tube-type kiln-cooler (GKC) are used for heat-strengthening induration of iron ore pellets. Their total share in the produced iron ore pellets in the world accounts for 93%, of which SGM takes 60% and GKC – 33%, which speaks about high efficiency of both methods of induration. At the same time, when making decision on construction a pelletizing plant, a question of selection of most effective technology of iron ore pellets production by SGM and GKC often arises. Results of comparative analysis of efficiency of technologies of iron ore pellets production by SGM and GKC presented. Features of various ore types pellets induration considered as well as possibilities of ensuring the required quality of finished pellets at application for induration SGM and GKC. Data on maximum productivity of the considered induration facilities, amount of dust, fines formation, emissions of harmful substances into environment and electric energy consumption presented. Importance of a possibility of accounting of fuel type selection, of heat expenses for heat treatment, of expenses for maintenance, capital and operation costs were noted. It was shown that choice of a particular variant of technology should be done at the stage of elaboration feasibility study accounting existing experience of facilities running, availability of fuel types, cost of energy resources, climate zone and assembling solutions.
