Semiconductor CdTe nanoparticles were synthesized by the γ-irradiation of Cd ion complex at room temperature. Cd-olate complex was reacted with aqueous NaHTe solution. The products were investigated by X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The optical properties of CdTe were investigated with UV-vis and photoluminescence (PL) spectra.

SrTiO3 nanoparticles were successfully synthesized by a sonochemical method at room temperature. The as-prepared powders were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and exhibited a pure phase SrTiO3 with a perovskite structure about 20nm in size with uniform and nearly spherical shape. It is found that the size of the obtained nanoparticles increased with prolonging the ultrasonic time.

Nanorods of CuCl with an average length of 100-200 nm have been prepared by a simple reaction between CuO suspension and NH2OH·HCl in the presence of deionized gelatin at room temperature. Gelatin played a decisive role as an inhibitor of the direct attack of NH2OH·HCl to CuO surfaces and coagulation of the growing CuCl in producing the nanorods. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmission electron microscopy.

Nanocubes, monodispersed nanocrystals and nanospheres of Au have been prepared by a simple reaction between HAuCl4·4H2O, NaOH and NH2OH·HCl in the presence of gelatin. The role of gelatin and the affection of pH in producing the nanoparticles of Au were discussed. The products were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. The sizes of the monodispersed nanocrystals of Au were estimated by Debye-Scherrer formula according to XRD spectrum.

Ag2Se nanocrystal was successfully prepared by ultrasonic synthesis in water and ethanol systems at an ambient pressure. The powder of selenium was used as the selenium ion source. The size of the nanocrystals is in the scope of 10-20nm. The products were characterized by some means including X-ray Powder Diffraction (XRD) and Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) which was used to study the thermostability of the product. The result of the experiments indicated that the concentration of the reactant, the pH of the solution, the react temperature and the surfactant had some important influence on the formation and the size of the Ag2Se nanoparticles. The method we reported here is proved to be a new and an easy way to prepare the nanocrystals of metal chalcogenide.

Abstract As revealed by Mössbauer spectroscopy, replacement of 10 at.% of iron in the amorphous Fe70Mo5Cr4Nb6B15 alloy by cobalt or nickel has no effect on the magnetic structure in the vicinity of room temperature, although the Curie point moves from 190 K towards ambient one. In the early stages of crystallization, the paramagnetic crystalline Cr12Fe36Mo10 phase appears before α-Fe or α-FeCo are formed, as is confirmed by X-ray diffractometry and transmission electron microscopy. Creation of the crystalline Cr12Fe36Mo10 phase is accompanied by the amorphous ferromagnetic phase formation at the expense of amorphous paramagnetic one.

AbstractDirect liquid crystal templating from non-ionic polyoxyethylene surfactants has been utilised to produce well-defined birefringent films of nanostructured cadmium telluride with mesoporous architectures of extended spatial periodicities. The template mixtures and films were characterised by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and polarising optical microscopy to ascertain the presence of a regular nanostructure. UV-VIS reflectance spectroscopy was employed to investigate the films' optical properties.
