Porphyrin-functionalized cup-shaped nanocarbons (CNC-H2P) have been assembled onto nanostructured SnO2 films using an electrophoretic deposition method to examine the photoelectrochemical properties. The obtained CNC-H2P nanohybrid films were examined by a series of steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopic measurements and photoelectrochemical measurements. The resulting nanohybrid film afforded drastic enhancement in the photoelectrochemical performance as well as broader photoresponse in the visible region as compared with the reference CNC system without porphyrins. The enhancement of photocurrent generation may be caused by the efficient electron injection from the long-lived charge-separated state of CNC-H2P upon photoexcitation. This feature makes cup-shaped nanocarbon materials a useful candidate for developing efficient photoelectrochemical and photovoltaic cells.

An electron donor–acceptor supramolecular complex was formed between an anionic zinc chlorin carboxylate ( ZnCh -) and lithium-ion-encapsulated [60]fullerene ( Li +@ C 60) by an electrostatic interaction in benzonitrile ( PhCN ). Photoinduced electron transfer in the supramolecular complex of ZnCh -/ Li +@ C 60 resulted in the formation of the charge-separated state via electron transfer from the triplet excited state of ZnCh - to Li +@ C 60. We report herein photovoltaic cells using ZnCh -/ Li +@ C 60 nanoclusters, which are assembled on the optically transparent electrode (OTE) of nanostructured SnO 2 (OTE/ SnO 2). The photoelectrochemical behavior of the nanostructured SnO 2 film of supramolecular nanoclusters of ZnCh - and Li +@ C 60 denoted as OTE/ SnO 2/( ZnCh -/ Li +@ C 60)n is significantly higher than the single component films of ZnCh - or Li +@ C 60 clusters, denoted as OTE/ SnO 2/( ZnCh -)n or OTE/ SnO 2/( Li +@ C 60)n.

Ce doped RGO-TiO2composite films on ITO substrates were prepared by sol-gel process using tetrabutyl titanate and reduced graphene oxide (RGO) as the starting materials. The sample was designed for the photoelectrocatalytic applications. The obtained samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. The results showed that doping of Ce on RGO-TiO2composite film inhibited the TiO2anatase-rutile phase transformation. In this case, Ce atoms could serve as dispersion oxide and suppress the recombination of photoinduced electron-hole pairs. Besides, the change in absorbance from UV to visible region was observed in Ce doped RGO-TiO2nanocomposite films. The Ce doped RGO-TiO2composite film showed higher photoelectrochemical performance than that of RGO-TiO2composite and pure TiO2under solar simulator irradiation. The main reason might be attributed to the optimum content of Ce that could act as electrons acceptor to hinder the recombination loss and facilitate the better transportation for photoinduced charge carriers.

We report on the time-resolved luminescence of the defect-related violet band from undoped AlN epitaxial layers grown on sapphire and SiC. For both measurements in photoluminescence and in cathodoluminescence a decay of algebraic nature at long times is observed. This is typical for donor-acceptor pair transitions. We compare the behavior of this band to that of the generically yellow luminescence of GaN.
