NASICON-type Li[Formula: see text]Al[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text](PO[Formula: see text] (LATP) solid electrolytes have been widely studied because of its stability in the air, low material price and high ionic conductivity. Gd-doped Li[Formula: see text]Al[Formula: see text]Gd[Formula: see text]Ti[Formula: see text](PO[Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]= 0, 0.025, 0.05, 0.075 and 0.1) with high ionic conductivity was successfully synthesized by solvothermal method for the first time in this work. The effect of Gd doping content on the structure and electrochemical performance of solid electrolytes was systematically studied. The optimal doping content of Gd is [Formula: see text]= 0.075. With the Gd doping content of 0.075, the solid electrolyte has the highest ionic conductivity of 4.23 × 10[Formula: see text] S cm[Formula: see text] at room temperature, the lowest activation energy of 0.247 eV and the highest relative density of 94.89%. This is because the fact that when [Formula: see text]= 0.075, it is the maximum content of Gd[Formula: see text] to replace Al[Formula: see text] and can completely enter the lattice of LATP, and does not emerge too much non-lithium ion conductive GdPO4 phase.

AbstractLi-ion-conducting chloride solid electrolytes receive considerable attention due to their physicochemical characteristics such as high ionic conductivity, deformability and oxidative stability. However, the raw materials are expensive, and large-scale use of this class of inorganic superionic conductors seems unlikely. Here, a cost-effective chloride solid electrolyte, Li2ZrCl6, is reported. Its raw materials are several orders of magnitude cheaper than those for the state-of-the-art chloride solid electrolytes, but high ionic conductivity (0.81 mS cm–1 at room temperature), deformability, and compatibility with 4V-class cathodes are still simultaneously achieved in Li2ZrCl6. Moreover, Li2ZrCl6 demonstrates a humidity tolerance with no sign of moisture uptake or conductivity degradation after exposure to an atmosphere with 5% relative humidity. By combining Li2ZrCl6 with the Li-In anode and the single-crystal LiNi0.8Mn0.1Co0.1O2 cathode, we report a room-temperature all-solid-state cell with a stable specific capacity of about 150 mAh g–1 for 200 cycles at 200 mA g–1.

ABSTRACTGarnet-type electrolytes are currently receiving much attention for applications in Li-ion batteries, as they possess high ionic conductivity and chemical stability. Doping the garnet structure has proved to be a good way to improve the Li ion conductivity and stability. The present study includes effects of Y- doping in Li5La3Nb2O12 on Li ion conductivity and stability of “Li5+2xLa3Nb2-xYxO12” (0.05 ≤ x ≤ 0.75) under various environments, as well as chemical stability studies of Li5+xBaxLa3-xM2O12 (M = Nb, Ta) in water. “Li6.5La3Nb1.25Y0.75O12” showed a very high ionic conductivity of 2.7 х 10−4 Scm−1 at 25 °C, which is comparable to the highest value reported for garnet-type compounds, e.g., Li7La3Zr2O12. The selected members show very good stability against high temperatures, water, Li battery cathode Li2CoMn3O8 and carbon. The Li5+xBaxLa3-xNb2O12 garnets have shown to readily undergo an ion-exchange (proton) reaction under water treatment at room temperature; however, the Ta-based garnet appears to exhibit considerably higher stability under the same conditions.

Solid-state polymer lithium-ion batteries with better safety and higher energy density are one of the most promising batteries, which are expected to power future electric vehicles and smart grids. However, the low ionic conductivity at room temperature of solid polymer electrolytes (SPEs) decelerates the entry of such batteries into the market. Creating polymer-in-salt solid electrolytes (PISSEs) where the lithium salt contents exceed 50[Formula: see text]wt.% is a viable technology to enhance ionic conductivity at room temperature of SPEs, which is also suitable for scalable production. In this review, we first clarify the structure and ionic conductivity mechanism of PISSEs by analyzing the interactions between lithium salt and polymer matrix. Then, the recent advances on polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based PISSEs and polycarbonate derivative-based PISSEs will be reviewed. Finally, we propose possible directions and opportunities to accelerate the commercializing of PISSEs for solid polymer Li-ion batteries.

A large number of pores and a low relative density that are frequently observed in solid electrolytes reduce severely their ionic conductivity and thus limit their applicability. Here, we report on the use of hot isostatic pressing (HIP) for ameliorating the garnet-type lithium-ion conducting solid electrolyte of Ga2O3-doped Li7La3Zr2O[Formula: see text] (Ga-LLZO) with nominal composition of Li[Formula: see text]Ga[Formula: see text]La3Zr2O[Formula: see text]. The Ga-LLZO pellets were conventionally sintered at 1075[Formula: see text]C for 12[Formula: see text]h, and then were followed by HIP treatment at 120[Formula: see text]MPa and 1160[Formula: see text]C under an Ar atmosphere. It is found that the HIP-treated Ga-LLZO shows an extremely dense microstructure and a significantly enhanced ionic conductivity. Coherent with the increase in relative density from 90.5% (untreated) to 97.5% (HIP-treated), the ionic conductivity of the HIP-treated Ga-LLZO reaches as high as [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]S/cm at room temperature (25[Formula: see text]C), being two times higher than that of [Formula: see text][Formula: see text]S/cm for the untreated one.

Organic/inorganic hybrid membranes that are based on GTT (GPTMS-TMES-TPTE) system while using 3-Glycidoxypropyl-trimethoxysilane (GPTMS), Trimethyletoxisilane (TMES), and Trimethylolpropane triglycidyl ether (TPTE) as precursors have been obtained while using a combination of organic polymerization and sol-gel synthesis to be used as electrolytes in Li-ion batteries. Self-supported materials and thin-films solid hybrid electrolytes that were doped with Lithium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) were prepared. The hybrid network is based on highly cross-linked structures with high ionic conductivity. The dependency of the crosslinked hybrid structure and polymerization grade on ionic conductivity is studied. Ionic conductivity depends on triepoxy precursor (TPTE) and the accessibility of Li ions in the organic network, reaching a maximum ionic conductivity of 1.3 × 10−4 and 1.4 × 10−3 S cm−1 at room temperature and 60 °C, respectively. A wide electrochemical stability window in the range of 1.5–5 V facilitates its use as solid electrolytes in next-generation of Li-ion batteries.

AbstractMontmorillonite(Mont) has been proved to be a kind of very promising solid electrolyte in recent years because of its good electric properties. It can be composed by polymer to prepare a mont-polymer complex which has high ionic conductivity and excellent plasticity. The film made of mont-polymer complex with room temperature ionic conduction has been used in solid state battery as solid electrolyte. It may be a new type of function material with futher application.
