M-commerce possesses two distinctive characteristics that distinguish it from traditional e-commerce: the mobile setting and the small form factor of mobile devices. Of these, the size of a mobile device will remain largely unchanged due to the tradeoff between size and portability. Small screen size and limited input capabilities pose a great challenge for developers to conceptualize user interfaces that have good usability while working within the size constraints of the device. In response to the limited screen size of mobile devices, there has been unspoken consensus that certain tools must be made available to aid users in coping with the relatively large volume of information. Recommender systems have been proposed to narrow down choices before presenting them to the user (Feldman, 2000). We propose a product catalogue where browsing is directed by an integrated recommender system. The recommender system is to take incremental feedback in return for browsing assistance. Product appearance in the catalogue will be dynamically determined at runtime based on user preference detected by the recommender system. The design of our hybrid m-commerce catalogue recommender system investigated the typical constraints of m-commerce applications to conceptualize a suitable catalogue interface. The scope was restricted to the case of having personal digital assistant (PDA) as the mobile device. Thereafter, a preference detection technique was developed to serve as the recommender layer of the system.

Previous research demonstrates that people increasingly utilize multiple displays along with mobile devices simultaneously, and that this split in attention has detrimental effects on goal-directed behavior. However, few studies have assessed the impact of the physical attributes of mobile devices–including dimensions, weight and screen size–on attention. Understanding how device dimensions and screen size affect attention is an important first step in creating safety guidelines for high risk industries that utilize displays, such as automotive and aeronautics engineering. The aim of this work is to determine to what extent the display dimensions and screen size of mobile devices influence attention. To explore this question, participants interacted with mobile devices of varying sizes while performing a change detection task on a stationary device located behind and above the mobile device. Results of this study suggest that those using a smaller mobile device achieved higher performance on the background change detection task than those using a larger device, while having similar performance in the mobile device task. This work demonstrates that when attention is divided, larger displays may be more attentionally demanding. We recommend that when users or designers are required to consider multitasking between a foreground and background task, in order to optimize background performance they should utilize smaller foreground displays.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of mobile device screen size and different positions on head posture. Participants’ angle of head flexion was measured when they were sitting, lying on their back, and standing while using mobile devices of different sizes. Results showed that participants had a greater head flexion when standing compared to both sitting and lying down. However, there were no significant differences in head flexion while participants used mobile devices of different sizes. There were no sex differences in the sitting and standing conditions. For lying down, females had a significantly greater angle of head flexion compared to males. Future research should examine sex differences in physical body structure to have a better understanding of the physical complications associated with device usage. Consumers should be advised how certain positions lead to greater head flexion, which could lead to greater musculoskeletal pain.

Banyaknya informasi yang dapat akses secara online dengan menggunakan mobile tidak terlepas dari banyaknya sistem yang dikembangkan oleh perusahaan dalam mendukung aktivitas bisnisnya. Perhotelan yang ada di Pontianak juga menyediakan berbagai fasilitas yang menarik dan juga menyediakan sistem pesan kamar online. Namun permasalahan yang terjadi ketika membuka halaman website yang dibuat tidak memperhatikan kapasitas dari perangkat mobile, menyebabkan ukuran layar tidak cocok sehingga banyak pengguna yang merasa tidak nyaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan menghasilkan informasi dan reservasi hotel yang dapat diakses dengan berbagai perangkat mobile terlepas dari ukuran perangkat mobile tersebut. Sistem yang telah dibangun memberikan manfaat dan keuntungan berarti karena JQuery Mobile memungkinkan sistem ini dapat berjalan diberbagai perangkat mobile. Adanya JQuery Mobile, para pengembang tidak perlu melakukan desain user interface dan pengkodean sistem dari awal karena JQuery Mobile memiliki framework yang siap dipergunakan dan dikembangkan sesuai dengan kebutuhan dari sebuah sistem. Perbaikan dan pengembangan perlu terus dilakukan untuk memastikan fleksibilitas sistem terhadap semua perangkat mobile terutama untuk ukuran layar yang kecil dan memiliki kapasitas RAM dan prosesor yang rendah.The amount of information that can be accessed online by using the mobile is not independent of the number system developed by the company in support of business activities. Hospitality is in Pontianak also provides a range of attractive facilities and also provides online messaging system. However, problems occurred when opening web pages created are not paying attention capacity of mobile devices, causing the screen size does not fit so many users feel uncomfortable. This study aims to generate information and reservation can be accessed by a variety of mobile devices regardless of the size of the mobile device. The system has been built to provide benefits and advantages mean because JQuery Mobile enables the system to run various mobile devices. Their JQuery Mobile, the developers do not need to design the user interface and encoding system from scratch because JQuery Mobile has a framework that is ready to be used and developed in accordance with the requirements of a system. Improvement and development needs to be done to ensure system flexibility towards all mobile devices, especially for the small screen size and has a RAM capacity and processor is low.
