Industrial engineering achieved rapid growth in providing safety measurements in all industries, following different safety policies to prevent faults in sectors. Industrial safety is an essential feature to give an accident-free environment. The safety policies and measurements encourage the industrial people to work in different perilous conditions. Industries prepare their safety policy and safety manual to identify various faults and risks. It is necessary to create awareness in industrial working members, and industries maintain special departments for safety. The safety guidelines prevent occupational injuries and accidents. The safety rules and regulations reduce the waste of human and other resources in industries. The study evaluates safety models used in industry to identify issues involved in the selection, implementation, and evaluation. This research provides insight into the overall process for industrial safety and, most essential, overviews on the methodology. Predicting industrial faults and risks emphasized the industrial engineering process and used machine learning algorithms for classifications. Many issues and challenges discussed industrial safety and provided novel innovation ideas for researchers.

In the present scenario due to Covid-19, there are no efficient face mask detection applications which are now in high demand for transportation means, densely populated areas, residential districts, large-scale manufacturers and other enterprises to ensure safety. This system can therefore be used in real-time applications which require face-mask detection for safety purposes due to the outbreak of Covid-19. This project can be integrated with embedded systems for application in airports, railway stations, offices, schools, and public places to ensure that public safety guidelines are followed. To identify the person on image/video stream wearing face mask or not. If the person doesn’t wear a mask, the notification will be sent to the respected admin with the help of Python and deep learning algorithm by using the Convolutional Neural Network, Keras Framework and OpenCV. Triathlon’s popularity is rapidly increasing, and epidemiological data relating to its related medical conditions is crucial to the development of proper medical plans and safety guidelines for it. This study examined the data from the medical reports collected during three consecutive editions of Ironman Italy, from 2017 to 2019. Out of 10,653 race-starters, 3.3% required medical attention sustaining 472 medical conditions. A significantly higher injury risk was found for females versus males (χ2 = 9.78, p = 0.02) and in long-distance (IR: 4.09/1,000hours) rather than in Olympic/middle distance races (IR: 1.75/1,000hours). Most (68.4%) conditions (including muscular exhaustion, hypothermia, and dehydration) were systemic, whilst only 10.2% were acute traumatic injuries. Of a total of 357 triathletes requiring medical assistance, 8.1% were a candidate for hospitalisation. The equipment and personnel that are required for the medical assistance in future triathlon events were estimated based on Maurer’s algorithm, and ten practical recommendations for triathlon medical support were formulated.

The cornovirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic has had a severe impact on our daily lives. As a result, there has been an increasing demand for technological solutions to overcome such challenges. The Internet of Things (IoT) has recently emerged to improve many aspects of human’s day-to-day activities and routines. IoT makes it easier to follow the safety guidelines and precautions provided by the World Health Organization (WHO). Prior reports have shown that the world nowadays may need more IoT facilities than ever before. However, little is known about the reaction of the IoT community towards defeating the COVID-19 pandemic, technologies being used, solutions being provided, and how our societies perceive the IoT means available to them. In this paper, we conduct an empirical study to investigate the IoT response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, we study the characteristics of the IoT solutions hosted on a large online IoT community (i.e., Hackster.io) throughout the year of 2020. The study: (a) explores the proportion, types, and nations of IoT solutions/engineers that contributed to defeating COVID-19, (b) characterizes the complexity of COVID-19 IoT solutions, and (c) identifies how IoT solutions are perceived by the surrounding community. Our results indicate that IoT engineers have been actively working towards providing solutions to help their societies, especially in the most affected nations. Our findings (i) provide insights into the aspects IoT practitioners need to pay more attention to when developing IoT solutions for COVID-19 and to (ii) outlines the common IoT solutions and technologies available to humans to deal with the current challenges.

Neurofunctional models of developmental dyslexia (DD) point out disruption of the left-lateralized reading network. In individuals with DD, the left temporo-parietal (TP) regions are underactivated during reading tasks and a dysfunctional activation of the contralateral regions is reported. After a successful reading intervention, left TP lateralization was found to be increased in children with DD. Previous studies measured the effect of modulating the excitability of the left TP cortex using non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) in individuals with reading difficulties, showing significant reading improvements. NIBS exclusion criteria and safety guidelines may limit its application in settings without medical supervision and in younger populations. Neurofeedback (NF) training could be an alternative intervention method for modulating the inter-hemispheric balance of the temporal–parietal regions in DD. To date, the effect of NF on reading has been scarcely investigated. Few protocols increasing beta activity in underactivated areas showed improved reading outcomes. However, none of the previous studies designed the NF intervention based on a neurofunctional model of DD. We aim to propose a study protocol for testing the efficacy of a NF training specifically designed for inducing a functional hemispheric imbalance of the tempo-parietal regions in adults with DD. A randomized clinical trial aimed at comparing two experimental conditions is described: (a) Enhancing left beta/theta power ratio NF training in combination with reducing right beta/theta power ratio NF training and (b) sham NF training.Clinical Trial Registration:www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier [NCT04989088].

PurposeThe COVID-19 pandemic has brought profound changes to all sectors of society including the construction sector. The main purpose of this study is to explore and provide insights into the impact and changes that have occurred in the construction sector due to COVID-19 and to present a mitigation framework to minimize the effects.Design/methodology/approachThe scope of this study is limited to peer-reviewed articles in Scopus or Web of Science indexed journals. A systemized review was performed with bibliometric and content analyses of articles related to the impact of COVID-19 on the construction sector.FindingsThrough content analysis, the main topics discussed in the selected articles were grouped into 10 categories. Most of these studies were found to have focused on the challenges, impact, and health and safety at construction sites resulting from the pandemic. The study further identified 39 subtopics through detailed content analysis and organizes them into the categories of negative impacts, positive impacts and opportunities and barriers to COVID-19 safety guidelines in the construction sector. Moreover, the study developed a systematic mitigation strategy based on the recommendations of the literature review to reduce the impact of the current pandemic on the construction sector. The mitigation strategy presents separate set of measures regarding safety guidelines, process improvements, government intervention, psychological support and technology adoption.Originality/valueThe research insights provided in this study are useful for practitioners in guiding them to design effective strategies for addressing the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and future crises. Furthermore, a systematic presentation of the impacts, challenges and mitigation measures in this study will help researchers to identify existing gaps in the literature and explore other aspects of the impact of the pandemic on the construction sector.
