The problem of evaluation and selection of parking lots is a part of significant issues of public transport management in cities. As population expands as well as urban areas, solving the mentioned issues affects employees, security and safety of citizens, and quality of life in long-time period. The aim of this paper is to propose a multicriteria decision model which includes both quantitative and qualitative criteria, which may be of either benefit or cost type, to evaluate locations. The criteria values and the importance of criteria are either precise or linguistic expressions defined by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. The human judgments of the relative importance of evaluation criteria and uncertain criteria values are often vague and cannot be expressed by exact precise values. The ranking of locations with respect to all criteria and their weights is performed for various degrees of pessimistic-optimistic index. The proposed model is tested through an illustrative example with real life data, where it shows the practical implications in public communal enterprises.

From earliest cities to the present, spatial division into residential zones and neighbourhoods is the universal feature of urban areas. This study explored issue of measuring neighbourhoods through spatial autocorrelation method based on Moran's I index in respect of achieving to best neighbourhoods' model for forming cities smarter. The research carried out by selection of 35 neighbourhoods only within central part of traditional city of Kerman in Iran. The results illustrate, 75% of neighbourhoods' area in the inner city of Kerman had clustered pattern, and it shows reduction in Moran's index is associated with disproportional distribution of density and increasing in Moran's I and Z-score have monotonic relation with more dense areas and clustered pattern. It may be more efficient for urban planner to focus on spatial autocorrelation to foster neighbourhood cohesion rather than emphasis on suburban area. It is recommended characteristics of historic neighbourhoods can be successfully linked to redevelopment plans toward making city smarter, and also people's quality of life can be related to the way that neighbourhoods' patterns are defined.

Abstract This study analyses 98 Internet pages of sea ports located in Sweden, Finland and Estonia during years 2017–2019. Aim of the study is to find, how website basic design is completed (colours and languages), how slogans, environmental issues, statistics and hinterland transports are reported. Based on the analysis, it appears as rather common that sea ports follow conservative selection of colours in their websites, where blue and white are clearly most popular. Typically, English and Swedish are as the most common used language, followed by Finnish, Russian and Estonian. In some rare cases, websites are offered in Chinese or German. Larger sea ports do have clear “slogans”, where smaller ones are just having lengthy justification for their existence. Environmental issues are increasing concern among sea ports, and these are mostly mentioned in details within Swedish actors. Providing statistics varies among companies, and in some sea ports these are provided from very long time period, where in others from just previous years or then only from last year (or even at all). It is common for companies to report that they have sustainable hinterland access, railway available.

AbstractA large class of problems deals with temporal data. Identifying temporal patterns in these datasets is a natural as well as an important task. In recent times, researchers have reported an algorithm for finding calendar-based periodic pattern in time-stamped data without considering the purchased quantities of the items. However, most of the real-life databases are nonbinary, and therefore, exploring various calendar-based patterns (yearly, monthly, weekly, daily) with their purchased quantities may discover information useful to improve the quality of business decisions. In this article, a technique is proposed to extract calendar-based periodic patterns from nonbinary transactions. In this connection, the concept of certainty factor has been introduced by incorporating transaction frequency for overlapped intervals. Algorithms have been designed to mine frequent itemsets along with intervals and quantity. In addition to that, we have designed an algorithm to find the periodicity of the pattern. The algorithm is tested with real-life data, and the results are given.

Performance of a product not as expected by the customer brings warranty expenditure into the picture. In other words, the deviation of the product performance (PP) from the customer expectation (CE) is the reason for customer complaints and warranty expenses. When this conflicting scenario occurs in market, warranty comes into existence and fulfilling warranty claims of customers adds to product's overall cost. In this paper, based on the difference between PP and CE about the product we estimate profit for the firm. Furthermore, factors like fixed cost, production cost and inventory cost have also been considered in framing the optimization problem. In the proposed model, a two-dimensional innovation diffusion model (TD-IDM) which combines the adoption time of technological diffusion and price of the product has been used. Classical Cobb–Douglas function that takes into account the technological adoptions and other dimensions explicitly has been used to structure the production function. The proposed model has been validated on real life data set.

In this paper, we studied a two-parameter transmuted model of Log-logistic distribution (LLD) using the quadratic rank transmutation map technique studied by Shaw and Buckley1 as a new survival model in medical sciences and other applied fields. Statistical properties of Transmuted LLD (TLLD) are discussed comprehensively. Robust measures of skewness and kurtosis of the proposed model have also been discussed along with graphical overview. The estimation of the model parameters is performed by Maximum Likelihood (ML) method followed by a Monte Carlo (MC) simulation procedure to investigate the performance of the ML estimators and the asymptotic confidence intervals of the parameters. Applications of the proposed model to real-life data are also presented.

In this article an attempt is made to introduce a new extension of the Fréchet model called the Xgamma Fréchet model. Some of its properties are derived. The estimation of the parameters via different estimation methods are discussed. The performances of the proposed estimation methods are investigated through simulations as well as real life data sets. The potentiality of the proposed model is established through modelling of two real life data sets. The results have shown clear preference for the proposed model compared to several know competing ones.

ABSTRACTCorrelation coefficients are abundantly used in the life sciences. Their use can be limited to simple exploratory analysis or to construct association networks for visualization but they are also basic ingredients for sophisticated multivariate data analysis methods. It is therefore important to have reliable estimates for correlation coefficients. In modern life sciences, comprehensive measurement techniques are used to measure metabolites, proteins, gene-expressions and other types of data. All these measurement techniques have errors. Whereas in the old days, with simple measurements, the errors were also simple, that is not the case anymore. Errors are heterogeneous, non-constant and not independent. This hampers the quality of the estimated correlation coefficients seriously. We will discuss the different types of errors as present in modern comprehensive life science data and show with theory, simulations and real-life data how these affect the correlation coefficients. We will briefly discuss ways to improve the estimation of such coefficients.
