The issue of adaptive practical finite-time (FT) congestion control for the transmission control protocol/active queue management (TCP/AQM) network with unknown hysteresis and external disturbance is considered in this paper. A finite-time congestion controller is designed by the backstepping technique and the adaptive neural control method. This controller guarantees that the queue length tracks the desired queue in finite-time, and it is semiglobally practical finite-time stable (SGPFS) for all the signals of the closed-loop system. At last, the simulation results show that the control strategy is effective.

This paper studies the problem of the adaptive neural control for a class of high-order uncertain stochastic nonlinear systems. By using some techniques such as the backstepping recursive technique, Young’s inequality, and approximation capability, a novel adaptive neural control scheme is constructed. The proposed control method can guarantee that the signals of the closed-loop system are bounded in probability, and only one parameter needs to be updated online. One example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

An easily implemented digital control method based on a discrete-time process model has been extended to encompass many process types found in common industrial control problems. The system uses a controller and observer based on finite-time settling design; the controller and observer gains are computed directly (noniteratively) from the process model parameters. A softening filter which preserves the finite-time settling behavior of the closed loop system has been developed to minimize manipulated variable excursions.

An adaptive neural control scheme is proposed for a class of generic hypersonic flight vehicles. The main advantages of the proposed scheme include the following: (1) a new constraint variable is defined to generate the virtual control that forces the tracking error to fall within prescribed boundaries; (2) RBF NNs are employed to compensate for complex and uncertain terms to solve the problem of controller complexity; (3) only one parameter needs to be updated online at each design step, which significantly reduces the computational burden. It is proved that all signals of the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded. Simulation results are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

Purpose The finite-time visual servoing control problem is considered for dynamic wheeled mobile robots (WMRs) with unknown control direction and external disturbance. Design/methodology/approach By using finite-time control method and switching design technique. Findings First, the visual servoing kinematic WMR model is developed, which can be converted to the dynamic chained-form systems by using a state and input feedback transformation. Then, for two decoupled subsystems of the chained-form systems, according to the finite-time stability control theory, a discontinuous three-step switching control strategy is proposed in the presence of uncertain control coefficients and external disturbance. Originality/value A class of discontinuous anti-interference control method has been presented for the dynamic nonholonomic systems.

This paper investigates the problem of finite-time [Formula: see text] synchronization for semi-Markov jump Lur’e systems with time-varying delay and external disturbance. The purpose of this work is to design a mode-dependent state-feedback controller to ensure that the synchronization-error system achieves finite-time synchronization with a prescribed [Formula: see text] performance index. A criterion for the finite-time synchronization is proposed by using appropriate Lyapunov functional and two recently developed inequalities. Then, a design method for the required state-feedback controller is presented with the application of several decoupling techniques. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the applicability of the proposed control method.

This paper studies the containment control problem for a class of nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) with actuator faults (AFs) and external disturbance under switching communication topologies. To address this problem, a new fuzzy fault-tolerant containment control method is developed via utilizing adaptive mechanisms. Furthermore, a sufficient condition is obtained to guarantee the stability of the considered closed-loop system by the dwell time technique combined with Lyapunov stability theory. Unlike the traditional method to estimate the weight matrix, the fuzzy logic system is used to estimate the norm of weight vectors. Thus, the difficulty that the unknown nonlinear function cannot be compensated for when the actuator produces outage or stuck fault is solved. Compared with the existing controllers for nonlinear MASs, the proposed controller is more suitable for the considered problem under the influence of AFs that are detrimental to the operation of each agent system. Besides which, the closed-loop system is proven to be stable by using the developed controller, and all followers converge asymptotically to the convex hull formed by the leaders. Finally, an example based on a reduced-order aircraft model is presented to verify the effectiveness of the designed control scheme.

Congestion is an un-avoiding issue of networking, and many attempts and mechanisms have been devised to avoid and control congestion in diverse ways. Random Early Discard (RED) is one of such type of algorithm that applies the techniques of Active Queue Management (AQM) to prevent and control congestion and to provide a range of Internet performance facilities. In this chapter, performance of RED algorithm has been measured from different point of views. RED works with Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), and since TCP has several variants, the authors investigated which versions of TCP behave well with RED in terms of few network parameters. Also, performance of RED has been compared with its counterpart Drop Tail algorithm. These statistics are immensely necessary to select the best protocol for Internet performance optimization.
