Microservices are small-scale services that can operate independently. An application consisting of microservice units can be developed independently as a service unit, and it can handle individual logic without being affected by other services. In addition, it is possible to rapidly distribute the configured microservices by a container, and a container orchestration technology that manages the distributed multiple containers can be realized; thus, it is possible to update and distribute the microservices separately. Therefore, many companies are moving away from existing monolithic structures and attempting to switch to microservices. In this paper, we present a method for reconstructing a monolithic application into a container-based microservice unit. The microservices of data units are derived through the collection and analysis of monolithic design data. Furthermore, we propose a method to generate a template script based on deployment design data so that the derived microservice and support distribution can be implemented in a container environment. The results of a case study conducted verified that the container-based microservices deployed in this study work properly. In addition, for the development of monolithic applications and the development of container-based microservices presented in this paper, we confirmed that developing on the basis of microservices is efficient by conducting execution time performance evaluation for API calls at various iterations. Finally, we show that microservices constructed using the proposed method have higher reusability than those constructed using existing methods.

The impact of strategic management in businesses cannot be over-emphasised irrespective of the size or nature of the business. The strategy provides the key to success in today’s changing business environment; hence, the success of a business can be traced to a well-pronounced factor, which is strategic management. As expressed by Jauch (2015), strategy formulation is a grand plan to be followed to achieve a set objective in small-scale businesses. For improved profitability and sustainability, small-scale businesses need to manage their operations intentionally. To utilise the limited resources effectively for higher profitability, small-scale businesses need a strategy; when resources are finite, when there is uncertainty about competitive strength and behaviour, when decisions must be coordinated between far places and overtime, and when there is uncertainty about control of initiative Miller (2013). However, the study critically analysed the effect of strategic management on small-scale businesses of Patent Medicine Stores in Abuja, Nigeria, especially in the 21st century. The methodology comprises the research and questionnaire design, data collection and data analysis techniques. The researcher was able to retrieve 53 questionnaires out of 70 and test the hypothesis using the chi-square method. From the result after the research, the researcher discovered that strategic management has a great effect on small-scale businesses of patent medicine stores in Abuja, Nigeria. Conclusively, business owners and managers must formulate policies and strategies if their businesses must continue to exist, serve and sustain competition.

In this paper, the performance evaluation of Modified Cascaded Median (MCM)-based noise estimation method for speech enhancement system has been carried out. The MCM-based method, though reported earlier, was not extensively evaluated; particularly, its real-time performance had not been considered. In the present study, the performance of the MCM-based noise estimation method has been compared with those based on Dynamic Quantile Tracking (DQT) and Cascaded Median (CM), through simulation as well as real-time implementation using TMS320C6416T DSK. All comparisons were made for speech quality (subjectively — mean opinion score and objectively — PESQ score, log-likelihood ratio, weighted spectral slope distance, segmented signal-to-noise ratio and composite measures for signal distortion [Formula: see text], background intrusiveness [Formula: see text] and overall distortion [Formula: see text]) at the 95% level of confidence. The real-time parameters such as memory consumption and execution time have been used for real-time implementation and compared for the three methods. The results, for different SNR-based degraded speech signals, show that the modified cascaded median-based noise estimation is the best in terms of PESQ score, [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text], [Formula: see text] and mean opinion score. On the other hand, for different noise corrupted-based speech signals, it performs well as compared to the original CM. Memory consumption and average execution time for the MCM-based noise estimation lie in-between those for DQT and CM-based methods.

This paper discusses the challenges of records management that arise from the use of adapted buildings as records centres in Zimbabwe, despite the advantages of using such buildings. A qualitative research approach was used as well as a case study research design. Data were collected from seven officers of the Gweru Records Centre through semi-structured interviews. Personal observation was used to triangulate findings from interviews. It was found that the use of adapted buildings as records centres was a cheaper and quicker way of establishing records centres throughout the country. However, a number of preservation, security and management challenges cropped up as the conditions of the buildings and the environment of the adapted buildings were not conducive to the proper and professional management of records. This study is important in that it explores the prospects and challenges of using adapted buildings as records centres in Zimbabwe, an area that has not been researched by many authors. This provokes archival authorities and the government to seriously consider establishing purpose-built records and archival centres.
