We extend and complete our analysis arXiv:1608.02380 and study the induced world volume metrics and Hawking temperatures of all type IIB rotating probe Dp-branes, dual to the temperature of different flavors at finite R-charge, in the Ben Ami–Kuperstein–Sonnenschein holographic models including the effects of spontaneous conformal and chiral flavor symmetry breakdown. The model embeds type IIB probe flavor Dp-branes into the Klebanov-Witten gravity dual of conformal gauge theory, with the embedding parameter, given by the minimal radial extension of the probes, dual to the IR scale of conformal and chiral flavor symmetry breakdown. We show that when the minimal extension is positive definite, the induced world volume metrics of type IIB rotating probe branes admit thermal horizons and Hawking temperatures despite the absence of black holes in the bulk subject to the world volume and topology of the nontrivial internal cycle wrapped by the probe. We also derive the energy–stress tensor of the thermal probes and study their backreaction and energy dissipation. We show that at the IR scale the backreaction is nonnegligible and find the energy can flow from the probes to the bulk, dual to the energy dissipation from the flavor sectors into the gauge theory.

Abstract In Part I of this series of papers, we described a general method for determining the flavor symmetry of any 5d SCFT which can be constructed by integrating out BPS particles from some 6d SCFT compactified on a circle. In this part, we apply the method to explicitly determine the flavor symmetry of those 5d SCFTs which reduce, upon a mass deformation, to some 5d$$ \mathcal{N} $$ N = 1 gauge theory carrying a simple gauge algebra. In these cases, the flavor symmetry of the 5d gauge theory is often enhanced at the conformal point. We use our method to determine this enhancement.

Acoustic Black Hole (ABH) plate structure has shown promising potentials of vibration suppression above a cut on frequency. For energy dissipation below the cut on frequency, however, the ABH is less effective due to the absence of wave focusing effect. This work reports a simultaneous optimization of ABH plates for broadband energy dissipation. Two sets of design variables of ABH plates, that is, geometry of the profile and topology of the damping layer, are optimized in an alternatively nested procedure. A novel objective function, namely the upper limit of kinetic energy, is proposed. Modeling of ABH structures is implemented and dynamic characteristic is solved using finite element method. A rectangular plate embedded with two ABH indentations is presented as a numerical example. Influence of frequency ranges in the calculation and mass ratios of the damping layer on results are discussed. The achieved optimal arrangement of the damping layer is found to cover equally, if not more, above the non-ABH (uniform) part of the plate than the ABH area. This is inconsistent with the conventional believe that damping layers should cover as much of the ABH area as possible. Mechanism of the broadband energy dissipation by the optimal solution is demonstrated.

Gauge/string correspondence provides an efficient method to investigate gauge theories. In this talk we discuss the results of the paper (to appear) by P. Benincasa, A. Buchel and A. O. Starinets, where the propagation of sound waves is studied in a strongly coupled non-conformal gauge theory plasma. In particular, a prediction for the speed of sound as well as for the bulk viscosity is made for the [Formula: see text] gauge theory in the high temperature limit. As expected, the results achieved show a deviation from the speed of sound and the bulk viscosity for a conformal theory. It is pointed out that such results depend on the particular gauge theory considered.

Starting from an [Formula: see text] supersymmetric electric gauge theory with the gauge group Sp (N c ) × SO (2N′ c ) with fundamentals for the first gauge group factor and a bifundamental, we apply Seiberg dual to the symplectic gauge group only and arrive at the [Formula: see text] supersymmetric dual magnetic gauge theory with dual matters including the gauge singlets and superpotential. By analyzing the F-term equations of the dual magnetic superpotential, we describe the intersecting brane configuration of type IIA string theory corresponding to the meta-stable nonsupersymmetric vacua of this gauge theory.

We study odd-parity baryonic resonances with one heavy and three light flavors, dynamically generated by meson-baryon interactions. Special attention is paid to Heavy Quark Spin Symmetry (HQSS), hence pseudoscalar and vector mesons and baryons with Jπ = 1/2+ and 3/2+ are considered as constituent hadrons. For the hidden-charm sector ([Formula: see text]), the meson-baryon Lagrangian with Heavy Flavor Symmetry is constructed by a minimal extension of the SU(3) Weinberg-Tomozawa (WT) Lagrangian to fulfill HQSS, such that not new parameters are needed. This interaction can be presented in different formal ways: as a Field Lagrangian, as Hadron creation-annihilation operators, as SU(6)×HQSS group projectors and as multichannel matrices. The multichannel Bethe-Salpeter equation is solved for odd-parity light baryons, hidden-charm N and Δ and Beauty Baryons (Λb). Results of calculations with this model are shown in comparison with other models and experimental values for baryonic resonances.

We investigate an effective torsion curvature in a second-order formalism underlying a two-form world-volume dynamics in a D5-brane. In particular, we consider the two form in presence of a background (open string) metric in a U(1) gauge theory. Interestingly the formalism may be viewed via a noncoincident pair of [Formula: see text]-brane with a global Nereu–Schwarz (NS) two form on an anti-brane and a local two form on a brane. The energy–momentum tensor is computed in the six-dimensional (6D) conformal field theory (CFT). It is shown to source a metric fluctuation on a vacuum created pair of [Formula: see text]-brane at a cosmological horizon by the two-form quanta in the gauge theory. The emergent gravity scenario is shown to describe a low-energy (perturbative) string vacuum in 6D with a nonperturbative (NP) quantum correction by a lower (p < 5) dimensional Dp-brane or an anti-brane in the formalism. A closed string exchange between a pair of [Formula: see text]-brane, underlying a closed/open string duality, is argued to describe the Einstein vacuum in a low-energy limit. We obtain topological de Sitter (TdS) and Schwarzschild brane universe in six dimensions. The brane/anti-brane geometries are analyzed to explore some of their characteristic and thermal behaviors in presence of the quantum effects. They reveal an underlying nine-dimensional type IIA and IIB superstring theories on S1.

I generalize the deconstruction lattice formulation of Endres and Kaplan to two-dimensional super-QCD with eight supercharges, denoted by (4,4), and bifundamental matter. I specialize to a particularly interesting (4,4) gauge theory, with gauge groupU(Nc)×U(Nf), andU(Nf)being weakly gauged. It describes the infrared limit of the D1/D5 brane system, which has been studied extensively as an example of the AdS3/CFT2correspondence. The construction here preserves two supercharges exactly and has a lattice structure quite similar to that which has previously appeared in the deconstruction approach, that is, site, link, and diagonal fields with both the Bose and Fermi statistics. I remark on possible applications of the lattice theory that would test the AdS3/CFT2correspondence, particularly one that would exploit the recent worldsheet instanton analysis of Chen and Tong.
