Background. Mucocele is the most common minor salivary glands disease. Its management may present a challenge for dental professionals. The aim of the present clinical case was to describe mucocele treatment with diode laser and its benefits. Case Report. A case of lower lip mucocele in a 10-year-old female patient is reported. A conventional excision surgery was performed. Two months later, the patient reported discomfort and swelling at the same operative site. The lesion had recurred. Thus, mucocele was removed using a diode laser with wavelength of 980 nm, an initiated fiberoptic tip of 300 μm, in continuous mode, and a power setting of 2 Watts. The procedure was rapidly completed with no bleeding. The patient was followed-up after 2 weeks and 6 months. The wound healed without complications: no postoperative discomfort or pain and no infection. There was no recurrence. Conclusion. Diode laser is an effective, easy, bloodless, and well-accepted procedure to treat mucocele in pediatric patients.

Mucoceles are benign, mucus-containing cystic lesions of the minor salivary glands. They are not true cysts since most of them lack an epithelial lining. These lesion occur most commonly in the lower lip.  This case report presents two cases of mucocele on the lower and upper lips. This lesion was diagnosed based on history, clinical finding and histopathological examination. The excision of the lesion was planed using diode laser. After re-evaluation of both the patients healing was satisfactory.DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.3126/ijosh.v4i1.12167

Objective: Extensive vascular malformations (VM) pose difficulties for an effective management. Introduction: This article describes a very satisfactory result, both functional and aesthetic, following a management by the technique of photocoagulation using diode laser in an extensive VM lesion involving the lower lip and left buccal mucosa in a 25 year old male. Case report: The patient reported that the lesion had been present since birth. The whole treatment, carried out under local anesthesia, spread over 6 months since as many as 4 sessions of laser, with a 1.5-month interval in each, were required. The resting period between sessions played an important part in treatment by allowing a time for the recovery of the patient and the shrinking of the lesion. Conclusion: The patient had no complications during the laser sessions, and his postoperative period was uneventful. No recurrence has been seen after a 2.5-year follow-up.

Objective: This case report proposes a treatment for dentin hypersensitivity (DH) using photobiomodulation (PBT) with low power diode laser. Methods and Results: Male patient, 28 years old, reporting “dental sensitivity,” diagnosed by anamnesis and intraoral examination, with non-carious cervical lesions (NCCL) and DH on teeth 15 to 25, with different pain intensities, measured with visual analogue scale (VAS). For DH treatment, a PBT was proposed, with 808nm, 100mW, 20s and 2J of energy, applied during 3 sessions, with one-week interval and reevaluation after 30 days. After the first session, the patient reported improvement of sensitivity in all teeth, except for 15, that remained sensitive even during the reevaluation. Conclusion: PBT was effective in DH treatment, with desensitization being observed for 30 days in 90% of treated teeth.

Mucoceles are nonneoplastic cystic lesions of major and minor salivary glands which result from the accumulation of mucus. These lesions are most commonly seen in children. Though usually these lesions can be treated by local surgical excision, in our case, to avoid intraoperative surgical complications like bleeding and edema and to enable better healing, excision was done using a diode laser in the wavelength of 940 nm.

ABSTRACT Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is the most common type of sleep apnea and is caused by complete or partial obstructions of the upper airway. In this study we are presenting a case report of 11-year-old male patient with enlarged adenoids and tonsils, convex profile, receded chin, lower lip trap, class II skeletal and dental relationship with increased overjet. Surgical removal of enlarged adenoids was done before commencement of twinblock therapy. After this, two-step advancement with expansion in both arches utilizing twin blocks was planned. Four months into the treatment, patient reported with history of facial trauma with avulsed maxillary left central incisor. Twin block was then modified with pontic as replacement for maxillary left central incisor. Sagittal correction resulting in class I molar relationship was achieved in next 6 months. Fixed appliance therapy was followed. The design of the appliance and the results achieved after the postfunctional therapy are presented in this case report. ABSTRACT Mucocele is a term applied to the clinical manifestation of phenomena that may affect the minor salivary glands. There are different forms of treatment reported in the literature, including total enucleation. The objective of this study is to describe a surgical technique for removal of Mucocele in a teenage patient. A 16-years-old, female, attended the sector of Pediatric Dentistry of Camilo Castelo Branco University - campus São Paulo / SP. The patient’s main complaint was “a bubble in the mouth that punchs and fills again, feeling salty taste.” At the clinical examination, a circumscribed, mucosa-like, floating-palpation lesion was observed, with a 1.7 cm diameter in the lower lip, with characteristics similar to Mucocele. In the planning of the case, we opted for the surgical removal treatment with anatomopathological analysis. The prognosis for the surgical removal of the lesion was very favorable due to some established criteria: age of the patient, location, depth and size of the lesion.

Osteochondropathy of the proximal ulnar bone is a rare disease that affects not only the ulnar, but also the venous process. To our knowledge, the existing domestic and foreign medical literature does not provide a description of osteochondropathy of the coronal process, a topic of considerable interest from the point of view of diagnosis and treatment. Here, we describe a clinical case of osteochondropathy of the coronal process and present a clinical picture of the defect of the elbow joint in the patient, with radiographs taken before and after the surgery. In the present clinical case, postoperatively, the patient reported pain; however, the elbow joint function was fully restored, indicating the success of the treatment and that active surgical treatment of this disease is adequate and timely.
