The gear transmission system is widely used in high-speed centrifugal pump to improve the operating speed and hydraulic performances of the whole pump. Vibration characteristics and the stability of these high-speed rotor systems with gear transmission have great impacts on the stability of the whole fluid transmission system of the plant. Based on the lumped-mass method and the principle of displacement equilibrium of the rotor system, a coupled lateral-torsional dynamic model describing the gear-rotor-seal-bearing (GRSB) system of high-speed centrifugal pumps which has considered the nonlinear factors within the gear pair, nonlinear forces of bearings, and those of the seals is proposed. Then, the stability and nonlinear vibration responses of a model GRSB system under different gear transmission ratios (i) have been studied. The following conclusions are drawn from the results: (1) The components with frequencies like fp, f g , fm, and 2fm have great impacts on the vibration responses of the gear pair, especially the fm component; moreover, the amplitude of fm first increases and then decreases with the ratio increase and reaches the maximum value under the ratio of 3. (2) A jump motion state will occur when the ratio i is 1.25 and the stability of the system is obviously worse than the bifurcation state. Quite different from those under the other states, under this jump motion state, the 0.2 f g component and 0.5fp component will appear in the vibration responses of both gears and become the most contributed two factors to the responses of the driven gear. (3) In the design process, the transmission ratio of a high-speed centrifugal pump with a simplified GRSB system should be specially designed to avoid the jump-point state and the maximum-amplitude-of-fm state to ensure the stability of the system as well as reduce the mechanical impacts and noises.

Abstract Nonlinear vibration, a main factor affecting the dynamic stability, widely exists in the transmission system. In addition, geometric eccentricities caused by the manufacturing errors are inevitable in the gear transmission system, which may lead to the excessive nonlinear vibration. In order to suppress the nonlinear vibration under the excitation of the geometric eccentricities, a rigid–flexible gear pair consisting of the ring gear, the composite material, and the hub is proposed in this study. A dynamic model with nine degrees-of-freedom which considers geometric eccentricities is proposed to analyze the nonlinear dynamic characteristics of the rigid–flexible gear pair. Furthermore, the dynamic characteristics of the rigid–flexible gear pair and the rigid gear pair are compared within a wide range of operating conditions. The comparative analysis demonstrates that the rigid–flexible gear pair has better vibration suppression effect on the system.

Coatings can significantly improve the load-carrying performance of a gear surface, but how they affect the vibration characteristic of the system is an urgent issue to be solved. Taking into account the nonlinear factors like the variable mesh stiffness, friction, backlash, and transmission error, a six-degree-of-freedom spur gear transmission system with coatings is presented. Meanwhile, the finite element method is applied to acquire the time-varying mesh stiffness of the coated gear pair in the engagement process. With the support of the time-history curve, phase curve, Poincare map, and fast Fourier transform spectrum, the dynamic characteristics and the effects of the coating elastic modulus on vibration behaviors of a gear transmission system are minutely dissected by using a numerical integration approach. Numerical cases illustrate that the dynamic characteristic of a gear transmission system tends toward a one-period state under the given operating condition. They also indicate that, compared with softer coatings, stiffer ones can properly enhance the transmission performance of the coated gear pair. Numerical results are also compared with previous studies, and can establish a theoretical basis for dynamic design and vibration control of the coated gear transmission system.

Under high-speed operating conditions, the noise caused by the vibration of the traction gear transmission system of the Electric Multiple Units (EMU) will distinctly reduce the comfort of passengers. Therefore, analyzing the dynamic characteristics of traction gears and reducing noise from the root cause through comprehensive modification of gear pairs have become a hot research topic. Taking the G301 traction gear transmission system of the CRH380A high-speed EMU as the research object and then using Romax software to establish a parametric modification model of the gear transmission system, through dynamics, modal and Noise Vibration Harshness (NVH) simulation analysis, the law of howling noise of gear pair changes with modification parameters is studied. In the small sample training environment, the noise prediction model is constructed based on the priority weighted Back Propagation (BP) neural network of small noise samples. Taking the minimum noise of high-speed EMU traction gear transmission as the optimization goal, the simulated annealing (SA) algorithm is introduced to solve the model, and the optimal combination of modification parameters and noise data is obtained. The results show that the prediction accuracy of the prediction model is as high as 98.9%, and it can realize noise prediction under any combination of modification parameters. The optimal modification parameter combination obtained by solving the model through the SA algorithm is imported into the traction gear transmission system model. The vibration acceleration level obtained by the simulation is 89.647 dB, and the amplitude of the vibration acceleration level is reduced by 25%. It is verified that this modification optimization design can effectively reduce the gear transmission.

The operation effectiveness of multi-bar transplanting mechanisms is low, and the specific changing law of the transmission ratio (the curve of the transmission ratio has twice unequal amplitude [TUA] fluctuation.), which is needed in vegetable pot seedling transplanting, is difficult to fulfill using a planetary gear train with noncircular gears and a single-planet carrier. To address this problem, we propose a noncircular gear pair that comprises an incomplete noncircular gear, rack, partial noncircular gear, and elliptical gear. The structural characteristics and the working principle of the TUA gear pair were analyzed. The pitch curve equation of the noncircular TUA gears was derived from the relationship of the angular displacement of the corresponding pitch curves. The influence of central angle α and eccentricity k on the shape of the pitch curve, angular displacement, and transmission ratio of the TUA gear pair was analyzed. The TUA gear pair was applied to a proposed vegetable seedling pickup mechanism (SPM) considering the design requirements. Finally, the feasibility of the new noncircular TUA gear transmission mechanism was verified by an SPM test.
