This case report describes the positive outcome of a therapeutic intervention that integrated an intensive, residential component with follow-up telepractice for a 21 year old male who stutters. This therapy utilized an eclectic approach to intensive therapy in conjunction with a 12-month follow-up via video telepractice. The results indicated that the client benefited from the program as demonstrated by a reduction in percent stuttered syllables, a reduction in stuttering severity, and a change in attitudes and feelings related to stuttering and speaking.

In Malaysia, some parents leave the duties of child rearing to their domestic helpers. This can cause much trauma to a preschool child who has been raised by his domestic helper if the domestic helper leaves the family. The domestic helper was the primary caregiver of the child; hence, when the domestic helper leaves, the child feels that his “mother” has abandoned him. This in turn cause the child to respond via very negative acting out behaviors. This chapter presents a case study using filial play therapy as a therapeutic intervention for a pre-school child and his mother after the domestic helper left the family. This therapeutic process enhanced the bonding between the child and his mother. As a result of better bonding, the child's negative behaviors subsided.

Nursing professionals experiencing incivility and bullying within the workplace are affected physically and emotionally. The sole purpose of the healthcare environment is to provide therapeutic intervention to the ill. Nurses should not anticipate going to work within healthcare facilities to be harassed, disrespected, and threatened. Be it a nurse working within a clinical environment or employed as a nurse educator in an academic setting, incivility and bullying can cause harm. Chapter 1 will provide an overview of the terms incivility and bullying. Uncivil conduct will be examined through a case study involving a perpetrator to provide insight into how a bully thinks and reacts with regard to their own behavior.

This chapter outlines a theoretically based rationale for using exposure consistently in the treatment of individuals with eating disorders. Due to the substantial overlap between eating disorders and anxiety disorders (both in symptom content and in comorbidity between the conditions), exposure therapy is a sound choice for therapeutic intervention. Indeed, the most evidence-based treatments for eating disorders contain a number of exposure-based strategies that drive much of the therapeutic benefit. The chapter discusses habituation, systematic desensitization, and inhibitory learning and differentiates exposure therapy from systematic desensitization. Using a case study to consider how exposure therapists can help patients learn to tolerate their anxiety by leaning into it rather than engaging in safety behaviors, this chapter lays the foundation for the application of exposure therapy to patients with eating disorders.

In this study, the pervasive influence of television (video) and the use of behavioral techniques are combined to demonstrate the viability of video therapy as a primary means of therapeutic intervention. Specially edited videotapes were designed to shape the correct grammatical and contextual use of language in a mentally retarded/schizophrenic, adolescent girl. Techniques used were self-modeling, structured rehearsal, projective rehearsal, and systematic positive reinforcement. Results from this study demonstrate the efficacy of this treatment modality.

Easson noted in 1967 how little had been published on intimate (frequently sexual) involvements between adolescents in in-patient settings and remarked how staff attitudes and countertransference feelings frequently resulted in an unsatisfactory resolution of such occurrences. Since that time the literature has remained sparse, yet the phenomenon and the problem of how best to deal with it persists. The present case study of two female in-patients “in love” attempts to demonstrate the usefulness of a simple and presumably infrequently used mode of intervention in promoting therapeutic growth and facilitating ward management. Rather than attempting to separate the two patients and deal with issues of their relationship individually, the existence of the relationship was acknowledged and accepted, and conjoint meetings which explored its troublesome aspects were held with them and their respective therapists. Provocative behaviour on the ward diminished, some insights were gained and their separation due to the discharge of one of them was effected with minimum turmoil. While certain factors specific to the case may have contributed to the outcome, the success of the intervention, nonetheless, warrants further application and study in the clinical arena.

This article presents a case study of a child previously diagnosed with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder who underwent a process of therapeutic intervention. The aim of the case study is to highlight the effectiveness of puppetry as a tool in individual and family psychotherapy. The author adopted the Embodiment, Projection and Role model developed by Sue Jennings, in order to facilitate access to symbolic transformation; this should decrease psychological symptoms and transform those facets into creative expression.

ABSTRACT. Introduction: Dentistry is considered a profession with a high risk of developing musculoskeletal disorders, as a consequence of specific operations involving a high degree of concentration and precision, the whole organism being solicited in a multidirectional manner (Gopinadh et al., 2013). The objectives of the study are to evaluate the dentist’s posture with the help of IsoFree medical equipment and to develop an intervention program specific to postural disorders, most present in dentistry Methods: The research started on the 16th of November 2019 and ended on the 18th of May 2020 and included a case study of one subject. The protocol consisted of ten sessions of evaluation and intervention. The head, cervical and lumbar spine and foot were initially and finally evaluated using photometric measurements and the IsoFree equipment. The physical therapeutic intervention consisted of 19 exercises for each segment evaluated. Results: In the cervical spine, the CVA presents an improvement of 5O and the cranial angle (CA), has undergone an improvement from 26° to 23°, a decrease of 3O. In regard to the real time feedback evaluation with the IsoFree, a 5O improvement from the initial value of 5O was noted after physical therapeutic intervention. In the lumbar spine, the final evaluation on IsoFree reveals a 3O progress of the trunk, the final value being -1O. Using the standardized FPI evaluation, an initial score of +6 has been obtained as well as a final score of +4. In the initial bipodal evaluation with IsoFree, the average CoP X value is 1.88 mm and CoP Y value is 22.47 mm, while in the final evaluation the CoP values on the xOy axis are: 0,53 mm, respectively 13,74 mm. An increase in the values for both parameters of the stabilometry can be observedfrom the initial value of the ellipse surface area of 52.83 mm2 to 123.55 mm2, the final value. The perimeter has changed from 311.34 to 525.93 mm2. Conclusions: The evaluation using the IsoFree technology shows significant benefits while being in accordance with other methods of evaluation. The proposed physical therapeutic intervention has determined positive outcomes on the subject’s posture.
