This case report describes the positive outcome of a therapeutic intervention that integrated an intensive, residential component with follow-up telepractice for a 21 year old male who stutters. This therapy utilized an eclectic approach to intensive therapy in conjunction with a 12-month follow-up via video telepractice. The results indicated that the client benefited from the program as demonstrated by a reduction in percent stuttered syllables, a reduction in stuttering severity, and a change in attitudes and feelings related to stuttering and speaking.

Worldwide, many children do not meet their developmental potential. This is particularly the case in LMICs and especially affects children living with disability. Thus, improving developmental attainment and reducing the impact of disability has now become an integral part of many of the sustainable development goals. This chapter introduces several tools currently available to measure both childhood development, and the effects of disability. Using examples from current research in global health this chapter introduces both known effective intervention strategies that improve developmental outcomes, and highlights challenges and future priorities for further research. These points are further illustrated using epilepsy as a case study, highlighting how the interaction of biomedical, psychosocial, and socioeconomic factors impacts on childhood development.

In Malaysia, some parents leave the duties of child rearing to their domestic helpers. This can cause much trauma to a preschool child who has been raised by his domestic helper if the domestic helper leaves the family. The domestic helper was the primary caregiver of the child; hence, when the domestic helper leaves, the child feels that his “mother” has abandoned him. This in turn cause the child to respond via very negative acting out behaviors. This chapter presents a case study using filial play therapy as a therapeutic intervention for a pre-school child and his mother after the domestic helper left the family. This therapeutic process enhanced the bonding between the child and his mother. As a result of better bonding, the child's negative behaviors subsided.


Nursing professionals experiencing incivility and bullying within the workplace are affected physically and emotionally. The sole purpose of the healthcare environment is to provide therapeutic intervention to the ill. Nurses should not anticipate going to work within healthcare facilities to be harassed, disrespected, and threatened. Be it a nurse working within a clinical environment or employed as a nurse educator in an academic setting, incivility and bullying can cause harm. Chapter 1 will provide an overview of the terms incivility and bullying. Uncivil conduct will be examined through a case study involving a perpetrator to provide insight into how a bully thinks and reacts with regard to their own behavior.


The chapter focuses on the IDEA disability category of Emotional Disturbance (ED), which ranks fifth among school-aged students in the United States that have been diagnosed with an exceptionality. ED is a disability that, due to severe behavioral and mental health issues, affects a student's ability to succeed academically in school, which many times leads to the student not finishing high school. The chapter explains that most service delivery models for students who are classified as ED occur in a resource room or self-contained classroom model. Two case studies demonstrate services within such models that have been found to be successful. The chapter also includes a discussion on specific intervention strategies that can assist teachers working with ED students.

This chapter outlines a theoretically based rationale for using exposure consistently in the treatment of individuals with eating disorders. Due to the substantial overlap between eating disorders and anxiety disorders (both in symptom content and in comorbidity between the conditions), exposure therapy is a sound choice for therapeutic intervention. Indeed, the most evidence-based treatments for eating disorders contain a number of exposure-based strategies that drive much of the therapeutic benefit. The chapter discusses habituation, systematic desensitization, and inhibitory learning and differentiates exposure therapy from systematic desensitization. Using a case study to consider how exposure therapists can help patients learn to tolerate their anxiety by leaning into it rather than engaging in safety behaviors, this chapter lays the foundation for the application of exposure therapy to patients with eating disorders.


The concluding remarks of the case study analysis of community intervention strategies and resultant changes are presented in this chapter. The causal relationship between various variables under study and destination quality improvement and stakeholder opinions on community intervention strategies are included subsequently. The study contributions to theory, practice, and society, and the contemporary significance of the study is discussed. The significance and implications both theoretical as well as managerial are also explored and presented along with future research opportunities. The chapter ends with a few constructive suggestions and recommendations to strengthen institutional community intervention in ecotourism destinations.


After reviewing the relevant literature covering community intervention strategies, destination sustainability, and quality, this chapter explores local people who are involved in ecotourism and related operations in the PA-based destinations of India. The study adopted exploratory sequential method under which different sets of people are interrogated during the qualitative phase of the study through focus group discussion and expert interviews. The result of qualitative phase is used for scale development, and a questionnaire survey was administered among local community members in the descriptive stage. Pilot study and cross-destination analysis are also executed before proceeding for descriptive research.
