Taxon differentiation in Urtica from Australia and New Zealand initially appears to be uncomplicated, with taxa being easy to distinguish. However, a revision of the type material, more recent collections and a comparison of Australian and New Zealand material shows that three of the names are misapplied. Urtica gracilis (as U. dioica subsp. gracilis, North America) has been reported as introduced to New Zealand, but molecular data retrieve the corresponding specimens with the other NZ-species and we argue that they belong to the polygamous Australian species Urtica incisa. A critical revision of the protologues and type collections reveals that the names Urtica incisa, originally described from mainland Australia, and U. incisa var. linearifolia from Tasmania, have been misapplied to New Zealand taxa. Both New Zealand “Urtica linearifolia” and “U. incisa” represent unnamed taxa and are here formally described as Urtica perconfusa and Urtica sykesii, respectively. Urtica perconfusa corresponds to what is erroneously known as U. linearifolia. Urtica sykesii is an overlooked species, erroneously interpreted as U. incisa in New Zealand. It may be differentiated from U. incisa Poir. by its smaller, deltoid leaf lamina with a truncate to subcordate base (versus truncate to cuneate), fewer leaf teeth (9–12 on each side rather than 14–20 in U. incisa) and smaller plant size (20–60 cm rather than 60–200 cm in U. incisa). We found evidence for the presence of true introduced U. dioica subsp. dioica in New Zealand, but not for U. gracilis. Rather, New Zealand specimens assigned to the putatively introduced northern hemisphere U. gracilis belong to U. incisa as described from Australia. Typifications for the species treated here are provided, including an updated key to the Australian and New Zealand taxa. There are thus six native species of Urtica in New Zealand, four of them endemic, and two also indigenous in Australia.

Two new species of the weevil genus Rhamphus from Italy are herein described: R. bavierai n. sp. (Sicily) and R. hampsicora n. sp. (Sardinia). Both are morphologically and from a molecular perspective close to R. oxyacanthae (Marsham, 1802) and R. monzinii Pesarini & Diotti, 2012. Aside from a diagnostic description and a synoptic key, distribution data and notes on the host plants of the four species are reported. Whereas R. monzinii can be distinguished by several morphological characters, the other three species are morphologically very similar to each other and separable only by the combination of a few subtle characters. On the contrary, a preliminary molecular study revealed substantial divergences of mtCOI from 6.2 to 14.9% between the species, confirming the importance of an integrative taxonomy.

The Australian Tortricini, Schoenotenini, and Chlidanotini together include 40 species in 17 genera. The Tortricini which are represented by 16 species in six genera, fall into two groups, the Phricanthes group with two genera and the Eboda group with four genera. Phricanthes Meyr. contains four Australian species, P. peistica and P. diaphorus being described as new. The other two species have a wide distribution abroad. The larvae attack plants in the family Dilleniaceae. The endemic genus Scolioplecta Meyr. includes seven widely scattered species, of which S. exochus and S. allocotus are described as new. A new species, A. diapella, from the Cape York Peninsula is referred to Amboyna Razowski, based on an Indonesian species. Anameristes, gen. nov. is a monotypic genus from north Queensland rain forest, established for Eboda cyclopleura Turn. Eboda Walk, contains one Australian species, and a series of others in the Indo- Malayan and Papuan areas. Asterolepis Razowski includes three species from Australia and New Guinea, with A. earina from Cape York and A. brandti from Papua described as new. The Schoenotenini are represented by 19 Australian species in seven genera. Two elements are distinguished. The Proselena group ranges from India to the New Hebrides and Rapa, including eastern Australia and New Zealand, while the Schoenotenes group has reached its greatest diversity in New Guinea. Proselena Meyr, has two species; Syncratus, gen. nov. has two new species, S. scepanus and S. paroecus; Tracholena, gen, nov., with type species Cnephasia sulfurosa Meyr., has three species; and Palaeotoma Meyr. is monotypic. The larvae of Proselena are leaf miners in Bursaria, those of T. sulfurosa tunnel in the bark of exotic Cupressus, while Palaeotoma has larvae boring in insect galls on Eucalyptus. Larval characters of these are discussed and compared with those of the New Zealand Prothelymna and Dipterina. The wide-ranging Diactenis Meyr., with a single new Australian species D. tryphera, may also belong to this group. Two genera of the Schoenotenes group are known from Australia. Cornuticlava Diak. includes three rain forest species in northern Queensland, including C. aritrana and C. phanera described as new. Epitrichosma Low. contains seven Australian species, one of which comes from the Darwin area, another E. hesperia, sp. nov. from south-western Australia, one from rain forest in southern Queensland and eastern New South Wales, and four including two new species E. ceramina and E. metreta from north-eastern Queensland. The last also occurs in New Guinea. The Chlidanotini contain five Australian species in four genera. Trymalitis Meyr. and Caenognosis Wals. are small but widely distributed Old World genera. The two new monotypic endemic genera Daulocnema, based on D. epicharis, sp. nov., and Leurogyia, based on L. peristictum, sp. nov., are described. The venation, genitalia, mouth-parts, and other adult structures, used to distinguish the genera, together with the larval characters of a few species, are discussed and figured. The genitalia of both sexes and the wings of the Australian species are figured and keys to the genera and species are given.

At least seven foliar taxa of Proteaceae occur in Oligo–Miocene lignite from the Newvale site. These taxa include two new species of the fossil genus Euproteaciphyllum, and previously described species of tribe Persoonieae and Banksia. Other specimens from Newvale are not assigned to new species, but some conform to leaves of the New Caledonian genus Beauprea, which is also represented in the lignite by common pollen. Two other Euproteaciphyllum species are described from the early Miocene Foulden Maar diatomite site. One of these species may belong to Alloxylon (tribe Embothrieae) and the other to tribe Macadamieae, subtribe Gevuininae. Ecologically, the species from Newvale represented important components of wet, oligotrophic, open vegetation containing scleromorphic angiosperms and very diverse conifers. In contrast, Proteaceae were large-leaved and rare in Lauraceae-dominated rainforest at the volcanic Foulden Maar site. Overall, the Oligo–Miocene fossils confirm that Proteaceae was formerly much more diverse and dominant in the New Zealand vegetation, and provide fossil evidence for biome conservatism in both leaf traits and lineage representation.

Tanais novaezealandiae Thomson, 1879 is redescribed based on material from the type locality and re-assigned to the genus Zeuxo. The taxon Anatanais novaezealandiae sensu Sieg from the subantarctic Auckland Islands is a distinct species and requires new material to fully assess its taxonomy. Two new species which could be confused with Z. novaezealandiae, Zeuxoides aka sp.nov. and Zeuxoides rimuwhero n.sp., are described. Both show a close resemblance to some newly-described Australian species and Zeuxoides helleri and support the view that the Australasian/New Zealand region is a hot-spot for species richness within the Tribe Anatanaini. The confused taxonomy of the Subfamily Tanainae is remarked on, with a new phylogenetic review desirable.

We describe two new species of Ranitomeya (family Dendrobatidae), R. yavaricola sp. nov. and R. cyanovittata sp. nov., from Peru. Ranitomeya yavaricola sp. nov. is morphologically similar to certain other species of Ranitomeya (in particular R. flavovittata), but the new species can be easily distinguished from all other species of Ranitomeya based on its unique limb coloration: solid bronze without black markings. Despite having searched in numerous localities throughout this region, we have found the new species at only a single locality near the confluence of the Yavarí and Yavari-Mirin rivers. Based on acoustic and molecular data, the new species is a member of the vanzolinii group, and is sister to the second new species, R. cyanovittata. Ranitomeya cyanovittata sp. nov. is only known from a single locality in the Sierra del Divisor in Amazonian Peru. This species can be easily distinguished from the other species of Ranitomeya by a unique coloration pattern that consists of just two colors: black background with blue lines or reticulations.

The two new species of Osmundites described in this paper are based upon two fossils from the Jurassic rocks near Gore, Otago district, New Zealand. The one was discovered by Mr Robert Dunlop, and the other by Mr Robert Gibb. Both specimens eventually came into the possession of Mr Dunlop, who generously handed them over to the authors for investigation, with full permission to have them cut for microscopical examination, and to whom we take this opportunity of expressing our indebtedness.

A new species, Ophioglossum gujaratense, is described from Gujarat state (India). It resembles O. polyphyllum in the presence of sheathing rhizomorph and 1–4 (rarely 5) trophophylls. On the other hand, rhizomorph morphology, common stalk, trophophyll arrangement, leaf lamina and leaf base make it distinct from O. polyphyllum. Stoloniferous roots, trophophyll number and their arrangement of the new species also resemble O. parvifolium and O. nudicaule. However, both these species lack a sheath around the leaf-stem base. A comparative account of morphologically similar species, viz. O. gujaratense, O. polyphyllum, O. parvifolium and O. nudicaule is provided. The distinctness of the new taxon has been confirmed using molecular data from chloroplast genome markers viz rbcL, trnH-psbA, trnF-trnE and trnL-trnF.

The genus Orthomorpha is shown to currently be represented in Vietnam by ten species or varieties, including new records of O. arboricola (Attems, 1937), O. coarctata (de Saussure, 1860), O. rotundicollis (Attems, 1937) and O. scabra Jeekel, 1964, and two new species, O. caramelsp. nov. and O. vietnamicasp. nov. A key to all eight Orthomorpha species and two varieties known to occur in Vietnam is provided. Although the morphological characters that have been traditionally used for Orthomorpha taxonomy are here considered superior to molecular ones, molecular-based phylogenetic relationships and taxon assignments within the tribe Orthomorphini are provisionally analyzed using fragments of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) mitochondrial gene. The preferred phylograms, both rooted and unrooted, demonstrate the monophyly of the tribe Orthomorphini, but due to the special, uncertain or even controversial position of O. coarctata, which occurs closer to the genera Antheromorpha and Hylomus, the genus Orthomorpha in current usage appears to be polyphyletic. However, if O. coarctata is to be treated within the monotypic genus Asiomorpha, the monophyly of Orthomorpha becomes manifest. On the other hand, a cautious approach is followed to avoid descriptions of suspicious new taxa/species. Thus, solely because the average genetic distance between O. rodundicollis subrotundicollisvar. nov. and O. rodundicollis, as well as that between O. scabra grandisvar. nov. and O. scabra, are both found to be negligibly small, the statuses of the sympatric and closest yet morphologically different varieties are treated only as such, i.e., infrasubspecific categories. The apparent discord observed between morphological and molecular data is obviously due to only partial and single-gene topologies used, possibly also to hybridization already known to occur in some closely related and sympatric paradoxosomatid species or even genera.

Indigoferamonierana M.Pignal & L.P.Queiroz, sp. nov. and Indigoferadumbeana M.Pignal & L.P.Queiroz, sp. nov., two new species from New Caledonia, are described and illustrated. Both new species have been collected for a long time, but most herbarium specimens were named as the Australian species Indigoferaaustralis, even though they clearly stand apart from this species and the other New Caledonian species of the genus. Indigoferamonierana can be diagnosed by the tall virgate shrubby habit, leaves with an articulate rachis and 7–11 widely obovate to orbiculate leaflets with greyish undersurface and almost invisible venation. Indigoferadumbeana can be recognized by the arborescent habit, leaves with 15–19 elliptical leaflets, small, c. 6 mm long flowers, and ellipsoid seeds. Preliminary IUCN assessments are provided for both species. A key is provided for all species of Indigofera recorded from New Caledonia.

Two new species of the nudibranch genus Okenia Menke, 1830 (Goniodorididae) are described, one from eastern Australian waters and one from the western Indian Ocean. Okenia atkinsonorum sp. nov. is the third Australian species reported to feed on the bryozoan Pleurotoichus clathratus (Harmer, 1902) and is very similar in external shape and colour to the other two species, O. hallucigenia Rudman, 2004 and O. stellata Rudman, 2004. Okenia rhinorma sp. nov. is reported from Tanzania and the Red Sea. Its body shape and anatomy suggest it is related to the ascidian-feeding group in the genus characterised by O. aspersa (Alder & Hancock, 1845).
