A new species of Elachistocleis is described from the municipality of Xapuri, state of Acre, northern Brazil. It distinguish-es from other species by the presence of an immaculate ventral coloration, SVL larger than 31 mm, and width head morethan 6.9 mm in adult males. Multivariate analysis based on external morphology also distinguishes the new species from the most morphologically similar species. The advertisement call is described and tadpoles remain unknown.

AbstractA new species of the genus Physalaemus from the Atlantic Rain Forest of the state of Minas Gerais is described. It belongs to P. signifer species group and is characterized by well-developed vocal sac, second finger with the same size of the fourth, granulate dorsal skin, large inguinal gland with black ocelli, presence of dorso-lateral folds, and advertisement call composed by harmonic notes, generally four, being the last shorter than the others. Information on tadpole external morphology are also presented.

A new species of Bulbostylis (Cyperaceae), only known from the Brazilian Amazonian coast, is here described and illustrated. Bulbostylis litoreamazonicola was found growing over dunes, in seasonally flooded restinga vegetation, and in humid fields near the mangroves from the State of Pará, Northern Brazil. This is the fifth Brazilian-native species of Bulbostylis lacking a persistent stylopodium on the mature fruit. The new species is mainly characterized by its annual habit, simple anthelate inflorescences, densely hispid to hispidulous longitudinally ribbed scapes, pubescent glumes, and cordiform nutlets.

We describe a new species of glassfrog from the cloud forest of Manu National Park, southern Peru, at elevations of 2750–2800m. The new species is similar in morphology to Centrolene lemniscatum, which occurs in northern Peru at elevations of2000–2280 m. Both species have white labial stripes, humeral spines, and lack vomerine teeth. The new species differs from C.lemniscatum by its larger size, labial stripe extending into a distinct lateral stripe instead of a discontinuous lateral stripe, snoutprofile inclined anteroventrally instead of bluntly rounded, greater depression in the internarial area, and by having stronglyprotruding nostrils. Males of the new species emit long calls with 8–14 peaked notes, instead of a short tonal note in C. lemnis-catum. Another morphologically similar species, C. buckleyi, has a short advertisement call composed of 1–5 notes, and isgenetically distinct from the new species. This new Centrolene extends the known distribution of Centrolene to the south by 600 km, and is the southernmost species of this genus.

Adults and tadpoles of a new species of the genus Leptodactylus are described from southeastern Brazil. Leptodactylus thomei sp.nov. can be found amidst the leaf litter within cocoa plantations along the northern coastal region of the state of Espírito Santo. It can be distinguished from other species of the Leptodactylus marmoratus group by its advertisement call, which is described, together with agonistic calls, and compared to advertisement calls of other species of the group that occur in southern and southeastern Brazil. The systematics of associated populations is discussed.

We describe a new species of Phyllodytes from Ilhéus (15º04’S, 39º03’W; 95 m above sea level), south of state of Bahia, in the northeastern Atlantic Forest of Brazil. Phyllodytes megatympanum sp. nov. is diagnosable by the following combination of characters: (1) dorsum of body, arms, and legs uniformly light brown; (2) groin yellow; (3) snout pointed in dorsal view, protruding in profile; (4) tympanum large with a round distinct tympanic annulus; (5) adult males with two anterior large odontoids followed by a series of smaller odontoids on each side of the mandible; (6) well-developed tubercle near tibio-tarsal joint; (7) advertisement call composed of a series of 12 to 19 unpulsed notes, with harmonic structure and (8) mean dominant frequency of 3.98 kHz.

The genus Novamundoniscus includes eight species with distribution in Brazil and Venezuela. The new species Novamundoniscus adhara Campos-Filho & Cardoso sp. nov. from the state of Tocantins, northern Brazil, is described, which represents the first record to the family for the state of Tocantins.

Nurse frogs (Aromobatidae: Allobates) are probably the most extensively studied genus by taxonomists in Brazilian Amazonia. The southwestern portion of Amazonia is the most species-rich: as many as seven species may occur in sympatry at a single locality. In this study, we describe a new species of nurse frog from this region. The description integrates data from larval and adult morphology, advertisement calls and DNA sequences. Allobates velocicantus sp. nov. is distinguished from other Allobates mainly by the absence of hourglass-shaped dark marks on the dorsum and dark transverse bars on the thigh; a throat that is white centrally and yellow marginally; basal webbing on toes II and III; finger I longer than finger II; and an advertisement call composed of 66–138 pulsed notes with a note duration of 5–13 ms, inter-note intervals of 10–18 ms and a dominant frequency of 5,512–6,158 Hz. Tadpoles of the new species have 3–4 short, rounded papillae on the anterior labium, 16–23 papillae on the posterior labium, and a labial keratodont row formula 2(2)/3(1). This is the fifth species of Allobates described from the state of Acre, southwestern Brazilian Amazonia.

A new species, Justicia carajensis, is described from the Serra dos Carajás as part of the ongoing taxonomic study of Justicia from the state of Pará in northern Brazil. Morphologically, it belongs to Justicia sect. Chaetothylax, and differs from other species by a combination of characters of calyx lobe length and indumentum, corolla tube shape, anther morphology, and ovary and fruit indumentum.

A new species of Pseudopaludicola is described from the state of Mato Grosso, western Brazil. The new species inhabitsthe transition zone between Brazilian Cerrado and Amazon rainforest in northern Mato Grosso, and is characterized by itsmedium size (snout-vent length 12–17 mm), lack of T-shaped terminal phalanges, toe tips not expanded laterally, presenceof two antebrachial tubercles, and smooth upper eyelids. The advertisement call of the new species consists of a seriescomposed of 11–74 non-pulsed notes. Mean dominant frequency is 3938 Hz. Each note presents a slight ascendantfrequency modulation in its first half, and another ascendant modulation in its last half. We also present new data on the distribution and conservation status of Pseudopaludicola canga.
