A remarkable new species, Sinotilla nigrothoracica sp. nov., is described and illustrated based on females from Taiwan. This new species is characteristic in having indistinct hypostomal teeth and a black mesosoma with the lateral margins strongly convergent posteriorly. An overview of female color patterns in the far-eastern Palaearctic and eastern Oriental regions is also presented.

Steccherinum aurantilaetum is a predominantly East Asian polyporoid fungus from the Steccherinaceae. It was first discovered in the Krasnoarmeisky District of the Primorye and in the Khabarovsk Territory. Previously, it was known only in the «Kedrovaya Pad» Nature Reserve in the Primorye and in the «Bastak» Nature Reserve in the Jewish Autonomous Region (for the territory of Russia). An original description of the species based on Far Eastern material is given, and a map of the general distribution of S. aurantilaetum is presented for the first time.

A new species of Andinobates (Dendrobatidae) is described from the East Andes of Colombia, just 37 km away from the Colombian capital, Bogotá. Andinobates supata sp. nov., represents the second known species of yellow Andinobates, and can be distinguished from the other, Andinobates tolimensis, by an unique combination of ventral and dorsal color patterns. Our phylogenetic analyses, based on ≈ 1120 bp from two mitochondrial markers (16S rRNA and cytochrome b) showed that this new taxon is sister to a clade formed by A. cassidyhornae, A. bombetes, A. opisthomelas, A. tolimensis and A. virolinensis. The new species appears to be restricted to a handful of small forest fragments (<10 ha) distributed in no more than 5 km2, between 1800–2000 m elevation, where the human activity is high. In addition, more than 90% of the original forest has been logged at the type locality, and its watersheds receive considerable agrochemical discharges. Altogether, the evidence suggests that this new species should be listed as Critically Endangered and should receive immediate attention regarding basic research and urgent conservation measures.

The subgenus Leucandrena of the genus Andrena of eastern Asia is revised, and seven species are recognized. Two new species, Andrena (Leucandrena) paramelanospila and Andrena (Leucandrena) banchan are described from Beijing and Xizang (China) respectively, and the male of Andrena (Leucandrena) melanospila Cockerell is described for the first time. A. (Euandrena) taisetsusana Tadauchi et Hirashima, and A. (Andrena) dolharubang Tadauchi and Xu are recognized as new synonyms of the Holarctic A. barbilabris (Kirby). A key to East Asian Leucandrena is given.

An analysis of the mtCOI sequences in the species from the genus Ypsolopha Latreille, 1796 made it possible to confirm a new species for science, Y. occultatella sp. n., morphologically similar to the East Asian species Y. yasudai Moriuti, 1964. The genetic distance between the mtCOI sequences in Y. occultatella sp. n. and Y. yasudai is 0,066–0,069 (6,6–6,9 %). However, the minimal genetic distance, 0,038–0,042 (3,8–4,2 %), was determined between the mtCOI sequences of the new species and Y. blandella (Christoph, 1882), while these species differ well in the forewing pattern.

Twenty-one species of earthworms, one including two subspecies, are recorded from Vanua Tu (New Hebrides). They comprise 18 species of the 'Pheretima' group of genera, including Amynthas (five spp.), Metapheretima (eight spp.), Polypheretima (one sp.), Pheretima (two spp.) and Pithemera (two spp., one with two subspecies), and three common pantropical species, Dichogaster bolaui, Ocnerodrilus occidentalis and Pontoscolex corethrurus. Seven new species are described. The systematics of the earthworms of Vanua Tu are reviewed, and species in the 'Pheretima' group are classified according to the revisions of Sims and Easton (1972) and Easton (1979). A key is provided for identification of all species. Vanua Tu earthworms show little evidence of niche separation or local speciation and it is concluded that most, if not all, the species have been introduced to the archipelago by pre-European and European man. Relationships between Vanua Tu earthworms and those of other Pacific islands are discussed, and it is shown that a large proportion of the species belong to a widely distributed 'Pacific basin' group. The affinities of this group are with south-east Asian and Indo-Malayan forms, and they are considered to be a group analogous to the small group of European lumbricid species that have been spread by man through much of the temperate regions of the earth.

A new colubrid snake, Rhynchocalamus ilamensis sp. nov., is described from Ilam province, western Iran. The new species differs from other described congeners using both morphological and molecular analyses. Morphologically, the head and neck color patterns are the most obvious distinguishing traits of this species from its congeners. The new species is separated from other species of Rhynchocalamus by a genetic distance of 9–13% in the mitochondrial Cytb gene, with R. satunini and R. melanocephalus as the closest and farthest relatives, respectively. As well, a color-based revised key to the genus is provided.

The genus Alpagut Kıyak, 1995, is recorded from East Asia for the first time based on the description of A. masakazui sp. nov. from Japan. Habitus images and illustrations of diagnostic features, including genitalia structures, are provided. The loculus capsulae of A. masakazui sp. nov. is discussed. The presence of a metacoxal adhesive pad is reconfirmed in Dipsocoridae along with a discussion of its morphology.

We describe two new species of the millipede genus Riukiaria from two islands of the Ryukyu Archipelago: R. maculata sp. n. from Tane-ga-shima, northern Ryukyus, and R. mundyi sp. n. from Yonaguni-jima, the southwesternmost member of the Yaeyama Island Group. Both species show the simple forceps-like male gonopod structure typical for the genus, but they are readily distinguishable from other members by their unique color patterns. We have also compiled a list of species in the genus described up to now.
