Motivation and Postsecondary Enrollment Among High School Students Whose Parents Did Not Go to College

The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between motivation in high school and postsecondary enrollment among 10th-grade students whose parents did not go to college. Specifically, this study (1) identified distinct groups of students’ self-reported reasons for attending schools among 10th graders, (2) examined whether these groups were differentially associated with indicators of college preparation and enrollment, and (3) investigated whether the time to postsecondary enrollment differed across groups. A latent class analysis was conducted to classify students into different motivation orientations. Using data from the Education Longitudinal Study of 2002, the current study found three distinct classes of school motivation, with different reasons for attending school. The largest class (53%) was characterized by high intrinsic, identified/introjected, and external motivations for attending school. Patterns of college preparation and enrollment outcomes varied across motivation orientations. Implications for school professionals and supporting programs are discussed.

During the spring of 1980 we included items about the use of coca paste in an ongoing longitudinal study of high school students in greater Los Angeles. Of 228 eleventh and twelfth grade males, four (1.8%) claimed to have used coca paste in the previous six months. Of 460 eleventh and twelfth grade females, five (1.1%) reported using coca paste during the six month period. We examine the usage rates in relationship to those for other drugs like liquor, marijuana, PCP, and cocaine. We also studied the relationship of the knowledge of coca paste, having friends who use the drug, and attitudes about the substance to other forms of drug use.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between religiosity and the level of moral reasoning of high school students. This research is correlation research using data collection techniques in the form of a religiosity scale and moral reasoning scale. The results of this study indicate that there is a relationship between religiosity and students' level of moral reasoning Senior High School, with a correlation coefficient of (-0.049) with a significance of 0.668. This shows that there is no significant relationship between religiosity and the level of moral reasoning of high school students. Based on the negative coefficient price, the higher the level of religiosity followed by the low level of moral reasoning, and vice versa, the higher the level of moral reasoning followed by low religiosity in high school students.

The purpose of this study is to find out how attitudes and interests of students and analyze the relationship between attitudes and student interest in high school physics subjects in Jambi Province. This type of research is quantitative which uses survey research design as a research procedure. This study involved 463 high school students in Jambi Province. The instrument used was a questionnaire with data analysis techniques namely descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. The results of the dominant student attitude indicators discussed in this paper are attitude indicators towards good research in physics with a percentage of 58.5% with a total of 271 students. The results of indicators of dominant interest are indicators of learning attention with categories good a percentage of 74.3% with total 344 students. The results of the analysis of the relationship between attitudes and interests of students towards high school physics subjects in Jambi Province showed r value 0.725 and positive. Therefore it is said that the attitudes and interests of high school students in Indonesia in physics subjects are high.
