Vibratory synchronization transmission of two cylindrical rollers in a super-resonant vibrating system with symmetrical structure

In this paper, vibratory synchronization transmission of two cylindrical rollers (CRs) with dry friction in a vibrating system excited by two co-rotating exciters is investigated. By virtue of the averaging method of modified small parameters, the synchronization criterion for two exciters and the criterion of vibratory synchronization transmission for two cylindrical rollers are obtained. The stability criterion of synchronous state is acquired based on the Routh–Hurwitz criterion. The effects of system parameters on the ability of synchronization, vibratory synchronization transmission and stability, are quantitatively discussed, which provide a theoretical basis for the project design. Finally, an experiment on a corresponding vibratory synchronization transmission bench is performed to examine the results of the theoretical analysis and numerical discussion. Experimental results will show good agreement with the numerical results. In engineering, certain types of vibratory crusher or vibratory mill can be developed according to the vibratory synchronization transmission theory of two cylindrical rollers.

In this paper an analytical approach is proposed to study the feature of frequency capture of two non-identical coupled exciters in a non-resonant vibrating system. The electromagnetic torque of an induction motor in the quasi-steady-state operation is derived. With the introduction of two perturbation small parameters to average angular velocity of two exciters and their phase difference, we deduce the Equation of Frequency Capture by averaging two motion equations of two exciters over their average period. It converts the synchronization problem of two exciters into that of existence and stability of zero solution for the Equation of Frequency Capture. The conditions of implementing frequency capture and that of stabilizing synchronous operation of two motors have been derived. The concept of torque of frequency capture is proposed to physically explain the peculiarity of self-synchronization of the two exciters. An interesting conclusion is reached that the moments of inertia of the two exciters in the Equation of Frequency Capture reduce and there is a coupling moment of inertia between the two exciters. The reduction of moments of inertia and the coupling moment of inertia have an effect on the stability of synchronous operation.

In this paper we give some theoretical analyses and experimental results on synchronization of the two non-identical exciters. Using the average method of modified small parameters, the dimensionless coupling equation of the two exciters is deduced. The synchronization criterion for the two exciters is derived as the torque of frequency capture being equal to or greater than the absolute value of difference between the residual electromagnetic torques of the two motors. The stability criterion of synchronous state is verified to satisfy the Routh-Hurwitz criterion. The regions of implementing synchronization and that of stability of phase difference for the two exciters are manifested by numeric method. Synchronization of the two exciters stems from the coupling dynamic characteristic of the vibrating system having selecting motion, especially, under the condition that the parameters of system are complete symmetry, the torque of frequency capture stemming from the circular motion of the rigid frame drives the phase difference to approach PI and carry out the swing of the rigid frame; that from the swing of the rigid frame forces the phase difference to near zero and achieve the circular motion of the rigid frame. In the steady state, the motion of rigid frame will be one of three types: pure swing, pure circular motion, swing and circular motion coexistence. The numeric and experiment results derived thereof show that the two exciters can operate synchronously as long as the structural parameters of system satisfy the criterion of stability in the regions of frequency capture. In engineering, the distance between the centroid of the rigid frame and the rotational centre of exciter should be as far as possible. Only in this way, can the elliptical motion of system required in engineering be realized.

The vibration dissipation mechanism of the rotating blade with a dovetail joint is studied in this paper. Dry friction damping plays an indispensable role in the direction of vibration reduction. The vibration level is reduced by consuming the total energy of the turbine blade with the dry friction device on the blade-root in the paper. The mechanism of the vibration reduction is revealed by the variation of the friction force and the energy dissipation ratio of dry friction. In this paper, the flexible blade with a dovetail interface feature is discretized by using the spatial beam element based on the finite element theory. Then the classical Coulomb-spring friction model is introduced to obtain the dry friction model on the contact interfaces of the tenon-mortise structure. What is more, the effects of the system parameters (such as the rotating speed, the friction coefficient, the installation angle of the tenon) and the excitation level on blade damping characteristics are discussed, respectively. The results show that the variation of the system parameters leads to a significant change of damping characteristics of the blade. The variation of the tangential stiffness and the position of the external excitation will affect the nonlinear characteristics and vibration damping characteristics.

ABSTRACT Giant outbursts of Be/X-ray binaries may occur when a Be-star disc undergoes strong eccentricity growth due to the Kozai–Lidov (KL) mechanism. The KL effect acts on a disc that is highly inclined to the binary orbital plane provided that the disc aspect ratio is sufficiently small. The eccentric disc overflows its Roche lobe and material flows from the Be star disc over to the companion neutron star causing X-ray activity. With N-body simulations and steady state decretion disc models we explore system parameters for which a disc in the Be/X-ray binary 4U 0115+634 is KL unstable and the resulting time-scale for the oscillations. We find good agreement between predictions of the model and the observed giant outburst time-scale provided that the disc is not completely destroyed by the outburst. This allows the outer disc to be replenished between outbursts and a sufficiently short KL oscillation time-scale. An initially eccentric disc has a shorter KL oscillation time-scale compared to an initially circular orbit disc. We suggest that the chaotic nature of the outbursts is caused by the sensitivity of the mechanism to the distribution of material within the disc. The outbursts continue provided that the Be star supplies material that is sufficiently misaligned to the binary orbital plane. We generalize our results to Be/X-ray binaries with varying orbital period and find that if the Be star disc is flared, it is more likely to be unstable to KL oscillations in a smaller orbital period binary, in agreement with observations.

The optimal velocity model which depends not only on the headway but also on the relative velocity is analyzed in detail. We investigate the effect of considering the relative velocity based on the linear and nonlinear analysis of the model. The linear stability analysis shows that the improvement in the stability of the traffic flow is obtained by taking into account the relative velocity. From the nonlinear analysis, the relative velocity dependence of the propagating kink solution for traffic jam is obtained. The relation between the headway and the velocity and the fundamental diagram are examined by numerical simulation. We find that the results by the linear and nonlinear analysis of the model are in good agreement with the numerical results.

A proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) method is applied to study the global stability analysis for flow past a stationary circular cylinder. The flow database at Re=100 is obtained by CFD software, i.e. FLUENT, with which POD bases are constructed by a snapshot method. Based on the POD bases, a low-dimensional model is established for solving the two-dimensional incompressible NS equations. The stability of the flow solution is evaluated by a POD-Chiba method in the way of the eigensystem analysis for the velocity disturbance. The linear stability analysis shows that the first Hopf bifurcation takes place at Re=46.9, which is in good agreement with available results by other high-order accurate stability analysis methods. However, the calculated amount of POD is little, which shows the availability and advantage of the POD method.

Anti-synchronization of two different chaotic systems is investigated. On the basis of Lyapunov theory, adaptive control scheme is proposed when system parameters are unknown, sufficient conditions for the stability of the error dynamics are derived, where the controllers are designed using the sum of the state variables in chaotic systems. Numerical simulations are performed for the Chen and Lu systems to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy.

Abstract A nonlinear control system that can track the natural frequency of a MEMS resonator was developed in this study. Due to the evolution of fatigue damage, the natural frequency of the resonator decreases. To maintain the device at resonance, a phase-locked loop system is used to track the frequency decay and adjust the driving force accordingly. A model for the control system is introduced and the system behavior is analyzed using an averaging method. A quantitative criterion for selecting the control gain to achieve stability is derived from the analysis. Simulation results are shown to be in good agreement with the prediction of the theoretical analysis.

Theoretical and an experimental research results of the disturbances development in a swept wing boundary layer are presented at Mach number М = 2. In experiments development of natural and small amplitude controllable disturbances downstream was studied. Experiments were carried out on a swept wing model with a lenticular profile at a zero attack angle. The swept angle of a leading edge was 40°. Wave parameters of moving disturbances were determined. In frames of the linear theory and an approach of the local self-similar mean flow the stability of a compressible three-dimensional boundary layer is studied. Good agreement of the theory with experimental results for transversal scales of unstable vertices of the secondary flow was obtained. However the calculated amplification rates differ from measured values considerably. This disagreement is explained by the nonlinear processes observed in experiment
