As Chinese architecture masterpiece, ancient Hui-style architecture is the admiration for Chinese and foreign master builders. According to the bending test, the theoretical calculations and Abaqus finite element analysis on 5 Hui-style architecture beams, this paper points out the differences between un-reinforced beams and reinforced beams on ultimate bearing capacity, deflection and other performance indicators. The reinforcement methods of embedding steel bars, embedding CFRP bars and pasting CFRP plate can respectively improve the ultimate bearing capacity by 20.2%, 32.6% and 37.0%. Based on the plane section assumption and considering thereduction of tensile strength causedby wood knots and defects in tension zone, this paper predicts failure modes of the test beams may occur, and gives the ultimate bearing capacity of different failure modes. In addition, this paper uses the Abaqus finite element software for simulating test beams, and the development trend of load-deflectioncurve between the test and numerical simulation are in good agreement, providing reference for further research of Hui-style architecture.

In this paper, nonlinear analysis of arch plate ultimate bearing capacity and the process of nonlinear ultimate failure were conducted by ABAQUS finite element software. The numerical failure simulation of steels, arch plate under different external loads and the separation of concrete as well as the whole slippage of concrete were operated. A reference for the further design calculations of reinforced concrete arch plate structure is provided as well.

Suction foundations are widely used in deep sea and their ultimate bearing capacity which is closely related with failure modes of suction anchor at limit equilibrium state is a key technology in offshore engineering practice. Based on Coulomb friction theory, an exact finite element model is presented in this paper. On the basis of this FEM model, by use of the finite element analysis software ABAQUS, the effect of mooring point and aspect ratio of a suction anchor on the ultimate bearing capacity and its stability are researched in detail. The results show that the ultimate bearing capacity and stability of the suction anchor are affected vastly by the position of mooring point, and the variation of mooring point on the suction anchor can lead to different failure modes. Simultaneously, the results also shows that tilted rotation of the soil along the direction of the mooring force will occur when the mooring point is near the top of the suction anchor, and the soil near the bottom of the fixed anchor rotates around the center of a circle, so the failure mode is called forward-tilted rotation in this paper; A general translation slip of the soil in front of the anchor along the direction of the mooring force will occur when mooring point is below midpoint of suction anchor, so the failure mode is called the translation slip failure mode in this paper. Anticlockwise tilted rotation of the soil along the direction of mooting force will occur when the mooring point is near the bottom of the anchor, and the soil at the top of the anchor rotates around the center of a circle, so the failure mode is called backward-tilted rotation in this paper.

Abstract To study fire after the mechanical performance of steel girder node special-shaped concrete-filled steel tube column, based on standard ISO - 834 litres of cooling curve, the node temperature field model was established based on finite element software ABAQUS, the compute nodes in the overall uniform temperature field under fire as a result, the reasonable choice of fire after the steel and concrete constitutive model, the temperature field results into the node stress model, considering the factors that influence the whole effect of fire loading in low cycle, the nodes of the finite element model, and contrast analysis of the temperature after the fire of the node and hysteretic performance and ultimate bearing capacity. The results show that the failure modes of special-shaped CFST column-steel beam joints at room temperature and after fire are the same, and the ultimate bearing capacity of the joints after fire decreases significantly by 14.88% compared with that at room temperature.

By using finite element software ABAQUS, the nonlinear finite element analysis of earthquake resistance behavior of L-shaped concrete-filled rectangular composite steel tubular columns is carried out, furthermore, the analysis results and the corresponding experimental results are compared. The results indicate that the finite element calculated value of ultimate bearing capacity is less than experimental value; axial compression ratio of the specimen has little affect on its ultimate bearing capacity and earthquake resistance behaviors; the results of FEM analysis can match the experiment results better, and thus, it can better reflect the earthquake resistance behaviors of the specimens.

In this article the finite element software was used to analyse the values for compressive strength of X-cor sandwich. During the analysis, the failure criteria and materials stiffness degradation rules of failure mechanisms were proposed. The failure processes and failure modes were also clarified. In the finite element model we used the distributions of failure elements to simulate the failure processes. Meanwhile the failure mechanisms of X-cor sandwich were explained. The finite element analysis indicates that the resin regions of Z-pin tips fail firstly and the Z-pins fail secondly. The dominant failure mode is the Z-pin elastic buckling and the propagation paths of failure elements are dispersive. Through contrast the finite element values and test results are consistent well and the error range is -7.6%~9.5%. Therefore the failure criteria and stiffness degradation rules are reasonable and the model can be used to predict the compressive strength of X-cor sandwich.

Non-linear analysis of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) block masonry composite wall with column has been conducted using finite element software ABAQUS. First, the finite element results were verified with laboratory results of full-scale specimens. Effects of horizontal reinforcement ratio on seismic performance were investigated. The analysis indicates that shearing strength of the wall is affected by the openings greatly. Seismic performance is improved with the increase of horizontal reinforcement ratio. The effect of vertical stress on wall without openings is more than that on wall with openings. Bearing capacity of walls without openings has a linear relationship with the horizontal reinforcement ratio. And bearing capacity of walls with openings is related to the place where the reinforcements are installed as well as the horizontal reinforcement ratio.

In this paper, in order to understand fully the development of failure mechanism, bearing capacity and seismic performance of the steel H-beams and composite concrete filled steel tubular (CFST) column joints strengthened by outside strengthening ring, in the space zone the effects of changing the axial compression ratio is investigated. A 3D joint finite element model is built up by finite element software ABAQUS, the elastic-plastic finite element analysis is carried through numerical modeling process. The analysis results showed that low axial compression ratio has a little influence on the bearing capacity; with the increase of axial pressure the bearing capacity will decrease in a high axial compression ratio, moreover the failure pattern of joint changes from beam end to column end. The ductility of the specimens is decreased by raising axial compression ratio.

The numerical simulation calculation on round steel-tubes reinforced with CFRP sheets was done through the large-scale finite element software ANSYS. In this research, four factors were comparatively analyzed so as to obtain the influence of them on ultimate axial tensile bearing capacity of steel-tubes. These four factors are longitudinal reinforcement length rate , thickness , elastic modulus and circumferential reinforcement ways of CFRP sheets. The results show that the ultimate axial tensile bearing capacity of steel-tubes strengthened with CFRP sheets is enhanced significantly and the reinforcement effect is very good.

Fracture behaviors of pipes with local wall thinning are very important for the integrity of power plant piping system. In this study, monotonic bending tests without internal pressure are conducted on 1.91-inch diameter Schedule 80 STS370 full-scale carbon steel pipe specimens. Fracture strengths of locally wall thinned pipes were calculated by elasto-plastic analysis using finite element method. The elasto-plastic analysis was performed by FE code ANSYS. We simulated various types of local wall thinning that can be occurred at pipe surface due to coolant flow. Locally wall thinned shapes were machined to be different in size along the circumferential or axial direction of straight pipes. We investigated fracture strengths and failure modes of locally wall thinned pipes by four-point bending test. From the test results, failure modes could be divided three types, ovalization, local buckling and crack initiation. And, the allowable limit of pipes with local wall thinning was investigated. In addition, we compared the simulated results by finite element analysis with experimental data. The failure mode, fracture strength and fracture behavior obtained from the tests showed well agreement with analytic results.
