Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) have been widely used in road lighting. This study investigates the optical design of a high-mast luminaire based on four chips-on-board LED light source modules and applies it to road lighting. The model of the high-mast luminaire is built with Solidworks, and then the optical simulations are analysed by Tracepro and Dialux. We also make a physical prototype of the high-mast luminaire to test its performance in practice. The illuminance distribution of the test area is nearly rectangular. The interior of the rectangle forms a smaller highlighted rectangular illumination area with uniform illumination. The outer edges of the rectangular illumination area will overlap the outer edges of the illumination area of other high-mast luminaires. The desired illuminance distribution and the uniform illumination can be obtained. Both the simulations and the experimental results meet the requirements of road lighting standards and the high-mast lamp can even achieve a better optical performance.

In order to detect methane (CH4) accurately and reliably, this paper presents a sensor which consists of infrared diode, fixtures, blazed grating, to realize the extremely narrow-bandwidth light at wavelength of 1.331μm. Based on factors such as compatibility with the transmission characteristics of silica fiber and the cost, a LED (light-emitting diode) with center wavelength of 1.3μm is selected. The LED light is modulated as the parallel light beam. As the light is incident in a micro-blazed grating with certain angle, by diffraction and interference, the light will output the maximum light intensity of its diffraction order at 1.331 μm, which just is an absorption peak of CH4. Micro-blazed grating applied here is low cost and easy replication by various ways, which makes extreme narrow width wavelength possible. Simulation and analysis indicate the designed prototype can output 1.331μm with bandwidth from 1.32907μm to 1.332495μm. With the light source basing on light dividing system, more reliable and higher sensitive measurement of the dangerous gases such as methane and carbon monoxide (CO) can be realized.

Based on the observation of the data measured, the illumination distribution of single LED is set to follow Gaussian function, and with this hypothesis, two forms of light array are analyzed on their illumination distribution. The law of Spyro is used to optimize space between LED in array. Comparison and analysis of the two kinds of array arrangement are given for getting the uniform illumination. The general design method and the calculation example of LED array to produce uniform illumination are also given in this paper. Keywords: Plane light source, Gauss function fitting, LED light source, Uniform illumination

For precise phenotyping, Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. is grown under controlled conditions with fluorescent lamps as the predominant light source. Replacement by systems based on light emitting diodes (LED) could improve energy efficiency and stability of light quality and intensity. To determine whether this affects the reproducibility of results obtained under fluorescent lamps, four Arabidopsis accessions and a phytochrome mutant were grown and phenotyped under two different LED types or under fluorescent lamps. All genotypes had significantly higher rosette weight and seed mass and developed faster under LED light than under fluorescent lamps. However, differences between genotypes were reproducible independent of the light source. Chlorophyll content, photosynthetic complex accumulation and light response curves of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters were indistinguishable under LED and fluorescent light. Principal component analysis of leaf metabolite concentrations revealed that the effect of a change from fluorescent light to LED light was small compared with the diurnal effect, which explains 74% of the variance and the age effect during vegetative growth (12%). Altogether, the replacement of fluorescent lamps by LED allowed Arabidopsis cultivation and reproduction of results obtained under fluorescent light.

This paper analyzes the structural features of the human eye in the middle of the road lighting visual state of the visual request of road lighting in the Mesopic range of lighting, road lighting standards to build a white and green LED light source distribution model and defines the sharpness of the image according to the model function. In the Matlab7.1 environment, high pressure sodium yellow light LED white light and LED white and green background light, the model simulation analysis of the image clarity, results show that, in the Mesopic same brightness level state road lighting selection white and green the LED light source has better clarity and sensitivity.

Compared with other light sources, LED light source has a longer service life and will not suddenly fail. Due to its high efficiency, energy saving and long life, LED has become the most popular light source at present. However, it is no longer considered to meet the application requirements, and the time that the light flux decays to this level is considered to be the life of the LED. This paper introduces the approximate method used to predict the lumen maintenance life of LED lamps. The experimental results obtained by the approximate method are compared with the TM-21 standard. Eventually, it is concluded that the approximate method provides more reliability information than the original TM-21 standard, and the obtained results are more reference, more accurate and more reliable.

Low intensity green light emitting diodes (LED) were shown to be an effective light source to induce the photopolymerization of an acrylate-based photocurable dental restorative resin mixture of bisphenol A glycerolate dimethacrylate (BisGMA), triethylene glycol dimethacrylate (TEGDMA), and diurethane dimethacrylate (UDMA), in combination with fluorinated diaryl titanocene (Irgacure 784). Dental matrices were prepared by the LED light source at different intensities. The mechanical properties, such as Vickers microhardness, compressive strength, diametric tensile strength, flexural strength, and E-modulus of the created samples, were investigated. The kinetics of the photopolymerization was followed by Raman spectroscopy and conversion values were determined. It was found that, despite its narrow-emission range centered at a wavelength of 531 nm, the green LED light source is suitable for the preparation of dental matrices with good mechanical properties and high conversion values.
