Objective The purpose of this study is to introduce a standardised assessment tool by verifying the reliability of the translated Korean version of the Feeding Abilities Assessment (K-FAA), which was developed to suit Korean culture. Methods The research subjects were 65 patients with dementia living in nursing homes. The K-FAA was completed by verifying the suitability of translation and reverse translation. The validity of the K-FAA was established through content validity, while its reliability was analysed based on internal consistency reliability for the items, test–retest reliability and inter-rater reliability. Results The content validity index determined, based on the assessment of professors, occupational therapists, and nurses, was more than .70. Cronbach’s α was more than .929, showing good internal consistency. A test–retest reliability of .884 was derived using Pearson’s correlation coefficient (p < .01), and an inter-rater reliability of .800 was derived using the kappa coefficients; intraclass correlation coefficient was .897, which also indicated good reliability. Conclusion The K-FAA was modified to fit the Korean domestic situation, and this assessment had high reliability. Therefore, K-FAA can evaluate the feeding ability of patients with dementia. Future studies should focus on providing evidence-based data to maintain or supplement the feeding ability of patients with dementia in Korea.

BackgroundPerceived ability or confidence plays an important role in determining function and behavior. The modified Gait Efficacy Scale (mGES) is a 10-item self-report measure used to assess walking confidence under challenging everyday circumstances.ObjectiveThe purpose of this study was to determine the reliability, internal consistency, and validity of the mGES as a measure of gait in older adults.DesignThis was a cross-sectional study.MethodsParticipants were 102 community-dwelling older adults (mean [±SD] age=78.6±6.1 years) who were independent in ambulation with or without an assistive device. Participants were assessed using the mGES and measures of confidence and fear, measures of function and disability, and performance-based measures of mobility. In a subsample (n=26), the mGES was administered twice within a 1-month period to establish test-retest reliability through the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC [2,1]). The standard error of measure (SEM) was determined from the ICC and standard deviation. The Cronbach α value was calculated to determine internal consistency. To establish the validity of the mGES, the Spearman rank order correlation coefficient was used to examine the association with measures of confidence, fear, gait, and physical function and disability.ResultsThe mGES demonstrated test-retest reliability within the 1-month period (ICC=.93, 95% confidence interval=.85, .97). The SEM of the mGES was 5.23. The mGES was internally consistent across the 10 items (Cronbach α=.94). The mGES was related to measures of confidence and fear (r=.54–.88), function and disability (Late-Life Function and Disability Instrument, r=.32–.88), and performance-based mobility (r=.38–.64).LimitationsThis study examined only community-dwelling older adults. The results, therefore, should not be generalized to other patient populations.ConclusionThe mGES is a reliable and valid measure of confidence in walking among community-dwelling older adults.

Abstract Context: Measurement of patient-centred outcomes enables clinicians to focus on patient and family priorities and enables quality of palliative care to be assessed.Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the validity and reliability of the English and translated Chinese IPOS among advanced cancer patients in Singapore.Methods: IPOS was forward and backward translated from English into Chinese. Structural validity was assessed by confirmatory factor analysis; known-group validity by comparing inpatients and community patients; construct validity by correlating IPOS with Edmonton Symptom Assessment System-revised (ESAS-r) and Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy–General (FACT-G); internal consistency by Cronbach’s alpha; inter-rater reliability between patient and staff responses; test-retest reliability of patient responses between two timepoints.Results: 111 English-responding and 109 Chinese-responding patients participated. The three-factor structure (Physical Symptoms, Emotional Symptoms and Communication and Practical Issues) was confirmed with Comparative Fit Index and Tucker-Lewis-Index > 0.9 and Root Mean Square Error of Approximation < 0.08. Inpatients scored higher than outpatients as hypothesised. Construct validity (Pearson’s correlation coefficient, r≥|0.608|) was shown between the related subscales of IPOS and FACT-G and ESAS-r. Internal consistency was confirmed for total and subscale scores (Cronbach's alpha ≥ 0.84), except for the Communication and Practical Issues subscale (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.29–0.65). Inter-rater reliability (Intra-class correlation coefficient [ICC] ≤ 0.43) between patient and staff responses was insufficient. Test-retest reliability was confirmed with Intra-class correlation coefficient ICC = 0.80 (English) and 0.88 (Chinese) for IPOS Total.Conclusion: IPOS in English and Chinese showed good validity, good internal consistency, and good test-retest reliability, except for the Communication and Practical Issues subscale. There was poor inter-rater reliability between patients and staff.

Abstract Addressing physical activity (PA) barriers is an essential component of increasing PA among the 56-73% of community-dwelling adults 50 years and older who are not performing the recommended 150 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous PA. As there is no feasible, multi-factorial tool to assess PA barriers among this population, we developed and validated a PA barrier assessment tool called the Inventory of Physical Activity Barriers (IPAB). We collected cross-sectional data on 503 adults (mean age 70.1), with 79 participants completing the scale twice for test-retest reliability and 64 completing a cross-over design examining the ability to use two administration formats interchangeably. Our analyses consisted of exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, Cronbach alpha, intraclass correlation coefficient, Bland-Altman Plot, and t-tests. Using factor analysis, we identified and confirmed an eight-factor solution consisting of 27 items. The 27-item IPAB is internally consistent (alpha= 0.91), has a high test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient=0.99), and can differentiate between individuals who meet the recommended levels of PA and those who do not (p &lt; 0.001). The IPAB scores ranged between 1.00-3.11 for the paper format (mean=1.78) and 1.07-3.48 for the electronic format (mean=1.78), with no statistical difference between the paper and electronic administration formats (p=0.94), resulting in the conclusion that the two administration formats can be used interchangeably. Participant feedback illustrates that the IPAB is easy to use, has clear instruction, and is an appropriate length. The newly validated IPAB scale can be used to develop individualized PA interventions that address PA barriers among patients 50 years and older.

The purpose of this study was to translate and culturally adapt the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire to produce an equivalent Korean version. A total of 53 patients completed the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire pre-operatively and 3 months after open carpal tunnel release. All 53 also completed the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand questionnaire pre-operatively and 3 months post-operatively. Reliability was measured by determining the test–retest reliability and internal consistency. Test–retest reliability was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients and paired t-tests, and internal consistency using Cronbach’s alpha coefficients. Pearson correlation analysis was carried out on the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire scores and the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand scores to assess construct validity. Responsiveness was evaluated using effect sizes and standardized response means. The reliability of the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire was good. The scores in the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand strongly correlated with the scores in the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire. Standardized response mean and effect size were both large for the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire. The study shows that the Korean version of the Carpal Tunnel Questionnaire is a reliable, valid and responsive instrument for measuring outcomes in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Because navigated transcranial magnetic stimulation (nTMS) is increasingly used in neurosurgical research, interpretation of its results is of utmost importance. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the test-retest reliability of nTMS. METHODS: Twelve healthy participants underwent nTMS at 2 different sessions separated by 10.3 ± 9.6 days. Investigated parameters included resting motor thresholds, hotspots, and centers of gravity calculated for the first dorsal interosseous, abductor pollicis brevis, extensor digitorum, tibial anterior, and abductor hallucis muscles. RESULTS: Excellent reliability of resting motor thresholds was observed. Hotspots and centers of gravity showed moderate to excellent repeatability along the anteroposterior axis (intraclass correlation coefficient, 0.54-0.89), whereas the x coordinate presented mainly poor to moderate stability (intraclass correlation coefficient, 0.11-0.89). Movement of centers of gravity over sessions was 0.57 ± 0.32 cm, and hotspots laid 0.79 ± 0.47 cm apart. Calculation of coefficient of variation revealed high reliability of investigated parameters in upper extremities; in lower extremity muscles, high variation across sessions was observed. CONCLUSION: nTMS can be considered a reliable tool, thus opening new fields of noninvasive investigations in neurosurgery. The results presented here should be considered in the interpretation of individual nTMS results.

Abstract Background: Since the time of declaration of global pandemic of COVID-19 by World Health Organization (WHO), falsified hand sanitizers surfaced regularly in markets, posing possible harm to public due to unlisted inclusion of methanol. The current research is an attempt to develop and validate a tool to document falsified hand sanitizer in the UAE community.Method: A descriptive cross-sectional community-based study was conducted among 1280 randomly selected participants. Respondents were sent a web-based electronic link to the survey via email. Content validity, factor analyses and known group validity were used to develop and validate a new scale to identify falsified hand sanitizer. Test-retest reliability, internal consistency, item internal consistency (IIC), and intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs) were used to assess the reliability of the scale. SPSS version 24 was used to conduct data analysis.Results: A total of 1280 participants were enrolled in the study. The content validity index (CVI) was 0.83 with the final scale of 12 items. The Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) value was 0.788, with the Bartlett test of sphericity achieving statistical significance (p <0.001). Our factor analysis revealed a 3-component model. The 3-factor solution was confirmed by PCFA analysis and had associations with good fit values. The PCFA for NFI was 0.970, CFI 0.978, and TLI 0.967. All values were in excess of 0.95, with RMSEA values below 0.06 at 0.03; all of these values indicated a good model fit. The Cronbach's alpha was good overall (0.867). All factors had a Cronbach's alpha value in excess of 0.70. The instrument demonstrated that every item met the IIC correlation standard ≥ 0.40. The scale displayed good overall ICC statistics of 0.867 (95% CI 0.856 - 0.877) with statistical significance (p < 0.001). The scale's test-retest reliability was assessed through correlation of the falsified hand sanitizer identification score of respondents at the two time points. The test-retest correlation coefficient was 0.770 (p value <0.01). Participants with post-graduate education were more likely to identify the falsified hand sanitizer compared to those with high school education. (p < 0.001).Conclusions: This study developed and validated a new scale for the measurement of falsified hand sanitizer. This is expected to improve and promote collaboration between the health regulators and the public and hereby encourage customer satisfaction and participation.

INTRODUCTION: The Patient-Rated Wrist Hand Evaluation (PRWHE) is a widely used measure of patient[1]reported disability, pain and appearance related to both hand and wrist disorders. It has been adapted cross[1]culturally worldwide but not in Malaysia. We performed a translation and cross-cultural adaptation of the PRWHE into a Malay version (PRWHE-MV) with assessed reliability and validity in patients presented with hand and/or wrist disorders. MATERIAL AND METHODS: PRWHE-MV was developed via translation and resolution of cultural discrepancies. A total of 83 patients (38 men, 45 women) with the mean age of 38 (SD 14) years and hand and/or wrist disorders completed both PRWHE-MV and the Malay version of Quick DASH during their first orthopaedic hand clinic follow up, and a second PRWHE-MV at 48 hours later. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) was used to assess test-retest reliability of the PRWHE-MV while Cronbach’s alpha was calculated to assess the internal consistency. We tested the validity of PRWHE-MV against the Malay version of Quick DASH by calculating the nonparametric Spearman’s correlation coefficient between these two measures. RESULTS: There was no major cultural problems during the forward and backward translation of PRWHE, except for a minor change owing to cultural discrepancy in toilet hygiene. The Cronbach alpha PRWHE-MV was 0.978 (SEM = 5.5) at baseline and 0.979 (SEM = 5.35) at the second assessment. For the test-retest reliability, ICC was 0.99. There was a strong direct correlation between the scores for the PRWHE-MV and the Quick DASH (r = 0.916, p< 0.001). A majority of patients considered hand appearance somewhat important and were bothered in the past week. Their main concerns were gaining back normal hand function and subsequently returning to work. CONCLUSION: The PRWHE-MV showed high internal consistency, test-retest reliability and good validity in patients with hand and/or wrist disorders.

Valid and reliable questionnaires are necessary to improve the existence and quality of nutrition information, which determines interventions in low-resource settings, especially among decision makers and change agents. The present study evaluated the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the data collected among 255 head teachers from schools in Mukono and Wakiso districts in Uganda using a general nutrition knowledge questionnaire (GNKQ) earlier developed. Cronbach alpha (α) was used to determine internal consistency. Pearson's correlation coefficient (r) and intraclass correlation coefficient were used to measure test-retest dependability on scores (ICC2,1). Overall internal consistency on 94 items was α = 0.89 at time one and 0.92 at time two. All items yielded data with a satisfactory internal consistency (α > 0.7). Two domains, Expert advice (ICC = 0.64) and Selecting food (ICC = 0.41), were determined to have insufficient test-retest reliability (r < 0.7 and ICC = 0.7), and their items were removed from the next analyses. The remaining nutrition knowledge topics with adequate test-retest reliability were food groupings (ICC = 0.9), nutrition and sickness (ICC = 0.91), and food fortification (ICC = 0.95). According to the findings, the prototype nutrition knowledge questionnaire had acceptable internal consistency and test-retest reliability. These findings indicate that the previously established questionnaire can be used to assess general nutrition knowledge among head teachers. To boost generalizability, future studies could use the questionnaire on a different group of adults.

The aim of this study was to provide data on the Inter-Rater Reliability (IRR) and the test-retest reliability of the Mentalization Imbalances Scale (MIS) and the Modes of Mentalization Scale (MMS) in two different studies. Three junior raters and two senior raters assessed blindly 15 session transcripts of psychotherapy of five patients, using both the MIS and the MMS. The same 15 sessions were rated after the junior raters completed a training at the use of the scales and after on month from the end of the training to assess testretest reliability. Four therapists used the MIS and the MMS to provide different ratings of 22 patients undergoing a psychotherapy in different settings. Intraclass Correlation Coefficient (ICC) values ranged from sufficient to good and increased after the training. Test re-test reliability was sufficient for both scales (Study 1). ICC values ranged from sufficient to good, and were globally higher than the ones found in the first study sample (Study 2). Our results provide support to the inter-rater reliability of the MIS and the MMS.
