Liquiritigenin (7,4’-dihydroxyflavanone), isolated from the roots of Glycyrrhiza Glabra, was derivatized to liquiritigenin 7, 4’-diacetate, liquiritigenin 4’-acetate, isoliquiritigenin, and liquiritigenin 7, 4’-dibenzoate. All these derivatives were evaluated for in vitro hepatoprotective activity against D-galactosamine–lipopolysaccharide(GalN/LPS) induced toxicity. In-vitro hepatotoxicity was manifested by a significant increase ( P < 0.05) in liver toxicity biomarkers (SGPT, SGOT, ALKP, triglyceride, LPO, NO and LDH). The level of biomarkers in the treatment groups was significantly decreased ( P< 0.05) when compared with the GalN/LPS group. The results revealed that isoliquiritigenin exhibited better hepatoprotective activity than liquiritigenin and its derivatives.

ABSTRACT: The study is designed for the evaluation of in-vivo Hepato protective and in-vitro Anti oxidant activity of ethanol extracts from the bark of Shorea robusta (Dipterocarpaceae) by CCl4 induced hepatotoxicity in rats. Ethanol extracts from the bark Shorea robusta (EESR) was evaluated for hepatoprotective activity in rats by inducing liver damage by CCl4. The anti oxidant activity of EESR was assayed by various in-vitro antioxidant methods and activities were compared to standard ascorbic acid. Ethanol extracts at an oral dose 200mg/kg and 400mg/kg exhibited a significant (*p<0.005) protective effects by lowering the level of SGOT, SGPT, ALP, Serum bilirubin, total cholesterol and increasing the level of total proteins as compared to Silymarin (50mg/kg) used as positive control. The extracts exhibit significant anti oxidant activity in various in vitro anti oxidant models.  From these studies we are concluding that, the ethanolic extracts of S.robusta have potent hepatoprotective effects and have anti oxidant properties, hence can be used as a natural product against liver damage.KEY WORDS: Anti oxidant, Carbon tetra chloride,  Hepatoprotective,  Shorea robusta

Acid-etching of enamel surfaces has been performed routinely to bond adhesive resin materials to sound dental enamel as a caries-preventive measure. The effect of fluoride pretreatment on acid-etching of enamel has been reported to produce inconsistent and unsatisfactory etching patterns. The failure to obtain an adequate etch has been postulated to be due to fluoride precipitation products deposited on the enamel surface. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of fluoride pretreatment on acid-etching of carieslike lesions of human dental enamel.Caries-like lesions of enamel were created in vitro on human molar and premolar teeth. The teeth were divided into two fluoride treatment groups. The specimens were exposed for 4 minutes to either a 2% Sodium Fluoride (NaF) solution or a 10% Stannous Fluoride (SnF2) solution. The specimens were then washed in deionized-distilled water. Each tooth was sectioned into four test regions. This was carried out to compare the effects of various time exposures (0 to 2 minutes) and differing concentrations (10 to 60% w/w) of phosphoric acid (H3PO4) on etching of caries-like lesions. Standard preparation techniques for SEM were performed on the specimens.
