Purpose: This article examines how individual, school, and social factors shape the perceptions of students in Senior Secondary Three (SS3; in some schools called Form Six [F6]) toward English private tutoring in Macao. Design/Approach/Methods: This is a comparative study of two F6 classes of an English-medium secondary school and four SS3 classes of a Chinese-medium secondary school in Macao, with a total number of 145 students. Mixed-methods approach (questionnaires and interviews) is employed in the study. Findings: The respondents’ participation in English tutoring is not very intensive. They prefer to receive government-subsidized after-school tutoring taught by their schoolteachers more than fee-paying English tutoring taught by tutors outside. Low level of social competition and high tertiary enrollment rates contribute to this phenomenon. Students’ needs and beliefs in English learning play key roles in determining their receipt of English tutoring. Originality/Value: Teachers may need better understanding of their students’ needs so as to design suitable pedagogies. Schools can consider more fully the types of tutoring that they provide for different kinds of pupils. The government-subsidized after-school tutoring could be a plausible way to reduce educational inequality.

This paper is aimed to investigate the stakeholder perception of economics teacher mastery of professional skills in senior secondary school in Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses were tested. The study adopted a correlation research design. The study population comprised 150 secondary school senior economics students and 20 stakeholders within the schools system in Abaji. Stratified proportionate sampling technique was used to sample 170 respondents from the population of the study. The researchers developed one sets of instruments titled ‘‘Stakeholders perception of Economics Teacher Questionnaire (SPETQ)’’ was used for data collection. The instrument was subjected to face and content validation by two experts who are lecturers; two in Department of economics education university of Abuja. Cronbach alpha was employed for the reliability test and this yielded a coefficient of 0.78, 0.68 and 0.81 for the three parts of   (SPETQ) and 0.78 . Pearson product moment coefficient was used in answering the research questions and t-test was used in testing the hypotheses. The findings of the study revealed among others that  most economics teachers have adequate knowledge of  their subject matter, good at lesson plan/lesson note writing skills, effective use of instructional aides, good evaluation skills, good at classroom management skills and marking and recording skills. also revealed that there That most economics teachers performs their job below expectation on the bases of comes to class regularly, gives enough assignment and class exercises, comes to class with his/her lesson plan, marks and records the CA and students exams on time and corrections of failed C.A and assignment in the class. Based on the findings, conclusion was drawn and it was recommended among others that government should provide training programme should be put in place by the government to refresh the economics teachers on the mastery of their professional skills. Some states in Nigeria have started on the job training for their teachers to upgrade the teachers. This should be extended to other states and the government should constant supervision of secondary to ensure that every teacher is doing its work. The principal should ensure effective instructional supervision in order to keep them at par with their foreign counterparts.

Abstract This paper estimates the relationship between after-school supervision and cognitive achievement using a nationally-representative sample of children. The topic has important public policy implications due to the large role assumed by the government in providing childcare. The effects of family and nonfamily supervision are considered separately. Estimates suggest that adult supervision, regardless of whether it is provided by a family or nonfamily member, is not directly related to a child's cognitive performance. Instead, children who are likely to receive after-school adult supervision from a family member possess unmeasured personal- or family-specific traits that induce improved cognitive performance. In contrast, children who are likely to receive supervision from nonfamily members possess unmeasured traits that lead to lower cognitive outcomes.

Given the laudable purposes attached to study of Basic Technology in JSS, it is therefore important that students retain the skills and knowledge acquired in the course of studying the subject in the school. However, sadly, the intended effect Basic Technology as a subject in the secondary school system should have, has not been seen in the generation of able manpower readily employable for the economy. The study investigated the difference between the retention ability of male and female senior secondary students in Basic Technology, and how school type (public/private) influence retention. Two research hypotheses were formulated for the purpose of the study. The research design used in carrying out this study is Ex–post facto design. This study covered the Southern Educational Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria. The population of the study comprised all senior secondary school three (SS3) students in the government-owned secondary schools and private-owned secondary schools in the southern educational zone of Cross River State. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling technique. The sample size for this study was 487 senior secondary school three (SS3) students drawn from fourteen schools in seven local government areas of southern educational zone. The research instrument used in the study is the achievement test. The statistical analyses techniques adopted to analyze the data collected were dependent t-test and independent t-test respectively. Findings of the study showed that there is no significant difference in retention between males and females, public and private schools in senior secondary school in Basic Technology. Based on the findings of the study, recommendations were made which include that there is a need to focus on the female folks in the execution of national policy on education. This study shows that the female folk arecapable of achieving and retaining as much the male folks during learning. Much effort should be made by the government to bridge the disparity between male and female folks in enrolment into and completion of the secondary school education. This research explored the influence of information sources availability on academic performance of secondary school students using a descriptive survey design. One hundred and fifty senior secondary school students were randomly selected from three secondary schools in Osogbo. Data was collected using a self-structured questionnaire that covers all the variables under study. Percentage was used to answer the research questions while regression analysis was used to test the hypotheses postulated. The findings indicated that information sources (library information, teachers information and textbook information) has significant influence on academics performance of student. The result of the hypotheses showed significant relationship between the independent variables (information sources) and dependent variable (academic performance). The value of F-statistic was 627.253 with p <0.05 shows that the overall model was statistically significant. The result revealed that library information, Teachers information and Textbook information have significant combined impact on academics performance of selected senior secondary school in Osun State. It recommended that The school administration should maintain the existing information sources they have and make request to the government for the provisions of this sources.

It is becoming more common for students in Hong Kong to take extra lessons after school. Several surveys indicate that more than 70% of students need to take private tutoring classes after school in their final year of secondary school (Bray, 2013). This indicates that “shadow education” has become a trend in Hong Kong. There are different types of private tutoring classes in Hong Kong, such as one-on-one tutoring or tutorial classes for groups of five to eight students. These classes aim to help students to perform better in public examination, but it has become more competitive in recent years. Even if students have satisfactory results at school, they may be expected to take extra classes, since doing so has become a societal trend. However, do students really need to take so many classes after school? Does the quantity of private tutoring lessons taken correlate with good academic results? This study investigates why parents in Hong Kong are sending their children to learning centers after school. Do these children really need extra classes, or are they being affected by the surrounding area?

There are several International Olympiads for secondary school students (for example, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology and informatics). These Olympiads are not just a science competition, but a means to care for talent in the particular science. The goal of this paper is to identify the necessary topics important for good results at these international contests, and to compare the contest systems for the countries in South Eastern Europe, in the field of Informatics (Computer Science), as a region that is one of the prominent world regions in the context of high results in the international competitions. Here, we provide comparison through detailed analysis of several countries, and further we present a new approach that may be used to compare the achievements of the countries based on the results that students achieved at these competitions. Finally, we present an application of this approach on the results of some of the discussed countries compared to Macedonia. We strongly believe that the paper will provide a valuable content and approach for the entities involved in the organization of the contests, to measure their results compared to other countries, to use the information for improvement, and to use their achievements to raise awareness among the government institutions and companies in order to get support from them.

One of the goals of zakat is to prosper Muslims. To achieve these objectives, the Qur'an guides the distribution of zakat, namely in the QS. At-Taubah verse 60. 8 groups are entitled to receive zakat, namely the destitute, poor, amil zakat, al-mu'allafah qulubuhum, ar-riqab, people who are in debt, fi sabilillah and ibnu sabil . In reality, there are still distributions of zakat that are not following these provisions, because there are people who are not included in the group mustahiq zakat, but he gets zakat. QS interpretation study is needed. At-Taubah verse 60 contextually, so that it can be used as a guide in the distribution of zakat in Indonesia. The theory used in this research is the theory of the Islamic Nativism (Pribumisasi Islam) of Gus Dur. The theory of Islamic Nativism tries to dialogue between universal meanings and civilizations outside of Arabia, in this case, namely Indonesia. With this theory of Islamic indigenization, the author tries to find universalism, cosmopolitanism, and indigenization in Hamka's interpretation of QS. At-Taubah verse 60 concerning mutahiq zakat. In Hamka's interpretation of QS. At-Taubah verse 60 about mustahiq zakat is indigenous of Islam. One of the natives found in the interpretation of Hamka is amil zakat, in Indonesia what is called amil zakat is divided into two, namely those appointed by the government and zakat committees formed by a group of Muslims, such as in the majlis talim, community organizations, schools, and offices.
