Thousands of people are infected with HIV/AIDS in Nepal and most of them are adults of working age. Therefore, HIV/AIDS is a big burden in Nepal. This review was conducted to find the existing knowledge gap about the economic burden of HIV/AIDS at the household level in Nepal, the extent of economic burden exerted by the disease, and to provide policy recommendations. It is concluded that there was a considerable knowledge gap about the issue, and the economic burden exerted by HIV/AIDS was big enough to push the affected households into poverty. It is suggested that more studies need to be conducted to fill the knowledge gap. Similarly, Government of Nepal and other organisations working in the field of HIV/AIDS need to provide economic supports (e.g.- support for travel costs) to the HIV positive people and need to increase the awareness level among general population for reducing stigma and discrimination, and reducing economic burden on them.

Abstract Background HIV/AIDS infection is a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in developing and poor countries. It may potentially lead to economic burden on health system. Prevalence of HIV/AIDS infection in is a debatable issue among researchers, and as our best knowledge, there is lack in economic evidence in this regard in Iran. The purpose of this study is calculating the economic burden of HIV/AIDS infection in Iran in 2016. Methods We used a societal perspective to capture the direct and indirect costs attributed to HIV/AIDS infection in until end of 2016. We used a prevalence model based approach to estimate the costs of the infection in Iran. For developing our model, we used the Iran Ministry of Health National Guideline for Managing of the infection of Iran by health and medical practitioners. We analysed the HIV/AIDS Surveillance System in three base case, optimistic and pessimistic approaches as our sensitivity analysis. Results Total direct costs and indirect costs attributed to the HIV/AIDS infection were 7,946,530 and 1,288,586 US$ until end of 2016. In addition, the total cost is 8,785,116. Conclusions Direct costs form approximately 85% of total costs of HIV/AIDS infection in Iran. However, we should consider that these costs are just for about 14.3% of diagnosed people who are under Antiretroviral Therapy, therefor if the government wants to scale up ART to large proportion of the population, it expectedly will raise.

Method: this is a quantitative study, methodological type, made from the construction of educational material, with subsequent validation by nine judges and evaluation of 15 caregivers. Content validation was established from the Content Validity Index with concordance equal to or greater than 0.78. Results: the folder was composed of eight pages and based on literature and interviews with caregivers to capture part of their subjectivity about the perception and expectation that permeate the care of children with HIV / AIDS. The items were assessed as adequate to reach the total IVC of 0.90. It was evidenced that the percentage of agreement of the caregivers was of 100% in the majority of the items. Conclusion: the folder was constructed and validated, and it can be used in health education with caregivers, providing the empowerment to care for children with HIV / AIDS. Objective. To analyze the expenses of HIV/AIDS and acute myocardial infarction (AMI) treatment in Brazil.Methods. A search in the Brazilian epidemiological database (DATASUS) on AMI and AIDS hospitalizations and their costs was done from January 1998 to December 2011. The number of HIV/AIDS cases and antiretroviral treatment (ART) costs was obtained from public Brazilian databases.Results. In 5 years, HIV/AIDS cases increased 38.5%, mainly in patients aged 25–49. There were 180,640 patients in ART in 2007 at a cost of R$ 3,920 per patient/year. The hospitalizations due to AIDS were stable over the last 13 years; however, the hospitalizations due to AMI have increased 78%. In 2007, the expenses with hospitalizations for HIV/AIDS and AMI (25–49 years) were approximately 0.12 and 1.52% of the Ministry of Health budget allocated to reimburse inpatient costs. The expenses on ART totaled 1.5% of the total budget (all age groups).Conclusion. The prevalence of HIV/AIDS is still increasing in Brazil. There are scientific evidences suggesting an increased incidence of AIM in this population. Considering the high costs for the treatment of both diseases, an economic analysis is important to alert health managers to strengthen the preventive measures to guarantee the financial sustainability of such treatment.

The HIV / AIDS cases in Indonesia is increasing and the spread is very complex. This research is a quantitative study with analytical survey research methods. The population was 37 HIV / AIDS mothers taken by total population at IPPI Foundation Yogyakarta. Data were analyzed by Chi-Square and it was found that most respondents had good knowledge about HIV / AIDS (94.6%), and were well-informed about the use of VCT (81.1%). The results of the correlation (p value: 0.532) did not have the demographic significance of respondents with the use of VCT services, (p value: 0.065) had no significance of knowledge of HIV / AIDS with the use of VCT services, (p value: 0.048) utilization of VCT services. The results of the study can concluded that there is no association of predisposing factors with the use of VCT services. There is a relationship between knowledge about VCT services and utilization of VCT services. Based on the results, needed to maintain and further improve VCT services in improving the health status of mothers with HIV / AIDS
