Background. To improve the quality of services, satisfying patients is the primary goal of the Ethiopian reform programme. Objectives. To assess patient satisfaction and associated factors among clients admitted to obstetrics and gynecology wards of public hospitals in Mekelle town. Method: Institution-based cross-sectional study design was conducted on 413 participants using systematic sampling methods. Data were collected from March 9 to May 8, 2016, using structured questionnaires. Data were entered and cleaned in Epidata 3.1 and analysed using SPSS V20 with binary logistic regression model. Result. The observed satisfaction rate was 79.7% at 95% CI (75.8%, 83.6%). Clients were dissatisfied towards well-describing side effects of medication, informing what the medication is used for before prescribing and administering, cleanness of toilet and washroom, and access to drinking water, latrine, and hand-washing facility. Respondents live in rural area, stayed < 4 days, admitted for the first time, admitted in Mekelle General Hospital, and who reported their feeling on ways privacy was assured were more likely satisfied than their counterparts. Conclusions. The observed satisfaction rate is high. So, policymakers, Regional Health Bureau, hospital managers, caregivers, and researchers should plan and work together to keep track of patient satisfaction. Areas patients are dissatisfied should also improve.

Abstract Background: The main aim of this study was to assess the level of patient’s satisfaction and associated factors in post-operative pain management. Methods: An institutional based cross sectional study was conducted from April, 11-May 15, 2018. Data were collected by structured, pre-tested patient interview questionnaire and chart review. Level of patient satisfaction was measured by using five-point Likert scale and checklist. The coded data were entered to Epi-info software version 7 and analyzed using statistical package for social sciences software version 23.The strength of the association was presented using adjusted odd ratio with 95% confidence interval and p-value<0.05 was considered as statistically significant.Results: A total of 418 patients were included in this study with a response rate of 98.58 %. The overall proportion of patients who were satisfied with pain management services was 72.2 % [95%CI:67.7-76.6].ASA1[AOR=3.55:95%CI=1.20-10.55]&ASA2 patients[AOR=3.72:95%CI=1.04-13.28],Patients with no post-operative pain [AOR=1.86:95%CI=1.02-3.39],post-operative nerve block [AOR=9.14:95%CI=3.93-20.86],analgesic before request[AOR=6.90:95%CI=3.72-12.83] and receiving postoperative analgesics [AOR=6.10:95%CI=1.17-33.91)] were significantly associated with level of satisfaction. Conclusion: Pain assessment during immediate postoperative period, providing regular based analgesia before patient request and to promote the practice of post-operative nerve block are important to increase the level of satisfaction.

Introduction. Globally, alcohol is one of the most prevalent forms of substance use that is particularly high among young age groups. Despite the adverse health and social challenges associated with alcohol use, it is one of the most common risky behaviours among university students. Objective. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of alcohol use and associated factors among Dilla University students in Southern Ethiopia. Methods. An institution-based cross-sectional study was conducted at Dilla University among undergraduate regular students from January to February 2018. A systematic random sampling technique was used to get a total sample of 803 students each year from the department of the university. The collected data were coded, entered into Epi Info version 7.1, and analyzed with SPSS version 20. Results. A total of 803 participants were successfully interviewed with a response rate of 91.7%. Alcohol use prevalence was 41.8% (n = 336) among participants. Being in fourth year (AOR = 2.66, 95% CI: 1.64, 4.31), having friends who use the substance (AOR = 1.53, 95% CI: 1.09, 2.1), being a khat user (AOR = 1.48, 95% CI: 1.05, 2.09), and being a cigarette smoker (AOR = 1.76, 95% CI: 1.09, 2.84) were found to be significantly associated with alcohol use. Conclusion. The current study revealed that fourth-year students, having friends who use the substance, being khat user, and being cigarette smoker had higher odds of alcohol use among the students. So the findings suggest that effective campus-based counselling and peer education should be implemented for early prevention, detection, and alleviation of alcohol use among students in the university.

Abstract Background: Electronic prescription is described by the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as the broadcast utilizing electronic medium, of prescription or prescription-related information between prescriber, distributor, pharmacy benefit manager, or health plan, either openly or through an agent, including an electronic prescribing system. the aim of this study was designed to assess attitudes towards electronic prescription and associated factors among physicians at the University of Gondar referral hospital 2021. Gondar, Ethiopia.Methods: Hospital-based Cross-sectional study was used among (n=152) physicians who have involved with a response rate of 88.8%. Data were collected using structured self-administered questionnaires from August 1 to September 1/2021. The collected data were entered into Epi-info Version 7.2 and exported to SPSS version 23 software for analysis. Descriptive statistics using frequency and other summary statistics were using present socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of participants. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression was employed to identify factors associated with dependent variables. Odds ratio (OR), with 95% CI and p value< 0.05 were computed to determine the level of significance.Results: Based on the operational definition the overall score of attitudes to an electronic prescription of physicians from the University of Gondar referral hospital was 76.8% [95% CI: 66.7-84.2]. Among the applicant variables for multivariable analysis two variables like age of the respondents [AOR: 2.48 (95% CL:1.055-5.830], and the monthly salary of the respondents [AOR: 8.29(95%CL: 3.002-22.89] had to have a significant association with electronic prescription.Conclusion and recommendation: The overall score of attitudes to the electronic prescription of physicians from the University of Gondar referral hospital was good. Age and a monthly salary of the respondents were significantly associated with an electronic prescription from the working organization university of Gondar referral hospital, and health care policymakers and hospital managers need to develop and institutionalize evidence-based widespread preparation of stakeholders especially prescribers and communications development earlier than its acceptance to build it doing well and victorious.

Abstract Background Knowing the factors for patient satisfaction is an important and direct indicator of quality of health care which is essential for providers to fill their gaps. Although few studies have been conducted on patient satisfaction in Ethiopia; but there is limited evidence for comparing patient satisfaction and associated factors in the public and private wing of the health services. Thus, this study aimed to investigate factors of patient satisfaction in adult outpatient departments in the private wing and regular services at public hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Methods A comparative institution based cross-sectional study was conducted from March to April 2018. A total of 955 systematically selected patients were interviewed by using an interviewer-administered structured questionnaire. Binary logistic regression analysis was performed. In the multivariable logistic regression analysis p value < 0.05 and adjusted odd ratio (AOR) with 95% confidence interval (CI) were used to identify the associated factors. Results The overall patient satisfaction was 89.3% (95% CI: 87.2–91.2). At the regular and private wings of outpatient departments it was 88.3% (95% CI: 85.4–91.2) and 90.4% (95% CI: 87.6–93), respectively. At regular service OPD, patient satisfaction was affected by female sex (AOR: 7.78; 95% CI: 2.89–20.93), long waiting time (AOR: 0.22; 95% CI: 0.07–0.73), information on the prevention of recurrent illnesses (AOR: 14.16; 95% CI: 4.58–43.83), and information on drug use and side effects (AOR: 0.22; 95% CI: 0.08–0.63). In private wing, it was affected by being in the age group of 38 to 47 years (AOR: 22.1; 95% CI: 2.39–203.6), attended elementary school (AOR: 4.69; 95% CI: 1.04–21.26), availability of drugs (AOR: 0.14; 95% CI: 0.04–0.58), and the accessibility of latrines (AOR: 6.56; 95% CI: 1.16–37.11). Conclusions Patient satisfaction at the private wing and regular adult OPDs’ of public hospitals had no statistically significant difference. Female sex and information on the prevention of recurrent illnesses were factors positively affected patient satisfaction at regular services, whereas at private wing OPDs’ age, attended elementary school, and accessibility of latrines were factors that positively affected patient satisfaction.
