AbstractMost loan evaluation methods in peer-to-peer (P2P) lending mainly exploit the borrowers’ credit information. However, the present study presents the maturity-based lender composition score, which exploits the investment capability of a group of lenders who fund the same loan, to enhance the P2P loan evaluation. More specifically, we extract lenders’ profiles in terms of performance, risk, and experience by quantifying their investment history and develop our loan evaluation indicator by aggregating the profiles of lenders in the composition. To measure the ability of a lender for continuous improvement in P2P investment, we introduce lender maturity to capture this evolvement and incorporate it into the aggregation process. Our empirical study demonstrates that the maturity-based lender composition score can serve as an effective indicator for identifying loan quality and be included in other commonly used loan evaluation models for accuracy improvement.

ABSTRACT

Continuous improvement is a well developed field of study at the entrepreneurial level. On the other hand, innovation seems to be the remedy for any kind of problem faced by both businesses and countries on the XXI century. Both these concepts plus a growing concern for the environment and the introduction of environmentally friendly policies by civil societies, companies and public administrations, lead us to question if there is a common relationship between these concepts. Thus, this work explores the existing relationship between management´s desire to improve a company´s environmental management and the application of continuous improvement as part of an innovating orientation. To that end, data related to 8038 Spanish companies gathered from the PITEC database was analyzed using quantitative techniques. After classifying the companies into groups with different environmental proactiveness, results show that the companies with a greater environmental proactiveness display a direct relationship with innovation and continuous improvement activities.
de innovacion y mejora continua.

P2P lending is a new method of informal finance that uses the internet to directly connect borrowers with on-line communities. With a unique dataset provided by Prestadero, the largest on-line lending platform with national presence in Mexico, this research explores the effect of credit scores and other variables related to loan and borrower´s traits, in determining default behavior in P2P lending. Moreover, using a logistic regression model, it tested whether investors might benefit from screening loan applicants by gender after controlling for loan quality. The results showed that information provided by the platform is relevant for analyzing credit risk, yet not conclusive. In congruence with the literature, on a scale going from the safest to the riskiest, loan quality is positively associated with default behavior. Other determinants for increasing the odds of default are the payment-to-income ratio and refinancing on the same platform. On the contrary loan purpose and being a female applicant reduce such odds. No categorical evidence for differential default behavior was found for gender´s case-discrimination, under equal credit conditions. However it was found that controlling for loan quality, women have longer loan survival times than men. This is one of the first studies about debt crowdfunding in Latin America and Mexico. Implications for lenders, researchers and policy-makers are also discussed.

This paper describes the experience in teaching Astilleros Espanoles (AESA) steel fabrication workers the practical use of line heating (L/H) for accurate bending of plates, and the operational deployment of this technology in all shipyards in the group. This project is set within the developing dimensional accuracy improvement program, which is aimed at improving productivity, quality and allowing the implementation of a continuous improvement process. The approach used is for facilitating a systematic technology transfer from Japanese specialists, overcoming initial reluctance, promoting active participation with a commitment from workers and foremen, and assuring practical documentation of experiences in the form of a shop operating manual.
