This paper opens with a caveat: as denoted in the title, its intention is not to be exhaustive on its subject, as of yet (future publication soon to follow). Attempted will be the exposition and commentation upon a series of indications regarding the intervallics of the plagal third mode, commonly referred to in the sources as Varys (low; due to being the mode with the lowest basis/ison in the ecclesiastical eight-mode system, Octoechos). If these result to a reacquaintance with the mode and a reconsideration of some of its intervallic possibilities, then the paper will have been successful in its intentions.

When I first began working with electronic theses and dissertations (ETDs), the conversation in libraries appeared to revolve around open access and publication embargoes. It seemed to me that the primary task for scholarly communication librarians in this area was to broaden access to graduate research while protecting future publication opportunities for individual authors. As graduate students begin to publish earlier in their careers, the relationship between the doctoral dissertation and scholarly publishing is evolving. Many students now include their own previously published work in a dissertation, requiring instruction in publication contracts and copyright transfer agreements at the point of submission to the graduate school.

AbstractThe confusing situation of the nomenclature of the astronomical objects led us to build, as a first step, a dictionary of the designations presently used. The future publication of this work is supported by Commission 5 of IAU. A brief description of this dictionary, as well as a sample of it, is given here. The designations (acronyms) will be given, together with the format, the total number of objects, the type of objects, the code for the complete bibliographical reference, the signification of acronym… Nomenclature for X and γ-ray sources, designations by constellations and descriptive designations will be dealt with as well. Good compilations are a considerable help in nomenclature problems; every effort should be made in order of : 1) urging specialists to build compilations 2) announce compilations in progress to Astronomical Data Centers and to the present authors.

Watch the VIDEO of the presentation.Open access to research results is a stated aim for the University of Tromsø – The artic university of Norway. The university’s research archive, Munin, has a well-developed system to make available the university’s own research, as well as master theses written by its students. Both master and PhD theses from UiT are delivered directly through Munin and can be made openly available on-line. Despite of this, many candidates choose not to have their theses made openly available through Munin. In my master thesis in document management, I examined why some candidates opt against, or postpone, making their theses openly available through Munin. What factors influence this decision, and are the given reasons based on actual issues or on misconceptions?From Munin I was given access to metadata from previously delivered, and passed, master and PhD theses where the candidate wanted to withhold their theses from being made openly available in Munin. The metadata contained the reasons provided by the candidates for their decision. I also conducted an electronic survey among, then, current master students where the goal was to examine current students’ attitudes towards making their thesis openly available in Munin, and compare the results from this survey with reasons stated by former master and PhD candidates.The main reason provided for postponing or refusing open access to their theses, given by both former master and PhD candidates, and current master students, where the fear that it would impair their chances for future publication. My study also showed that both master and PhD candidates from the faculty of health science are less likely to make their theses openly available in Munin, than candidates from other faculties. This faculty also had more candidates than other expressing concern over the possibilities for future publication.Why do candidates from different faculties within the same university show different attitudes towards having their work openly available? Are candidates right in their concerns regarding open availability and future publication, or are these concerns based on unfounded fears? Does it matter if master and PhD candidates choses not to make their work openly available, and can candidates be encouraged to make their work available?

The present paper reviews several pertinent papers about the onset of bubble-ring cavitation on hemispherical headforms in which a laminar bubble is present. From this review, a likely sequence of events for cavitation inception, or desinence, can be discerned. When this sequence is postulated, the observational basis for each event is discussed. Once the physical aspects of the inception process have been noted, a mathematical formulation of key relationships required to establish an inception criterion can be undertaken. From these results, a quantitative criterion for the inception of bubble ring cavitation is stated and we give a discussion which interprets this possible inception criterion for future use. The use of this criterion in a theory of inception and a comparison of analytical and experimental results is left to a future publication.

A demonstration summary of a reliability-based structural design code for ships is presented for two ship types: a cruiser and a tanker. One reason for the development of such a code is to provide specifications which produce ship structure having a weight savings and/or improvement in reliability relative to structure designed by traditional methods. Another reason is to provide uniform safety margin for ships within each type. For both ship types, code requirements cover four failure modes: hull girder bulkling, unstiffened plate yielding and buckling, stiffened plate buckling, and fatigue of critical detail. Both serviceability and ultimate limit states are considered. Because of limitation on the length, only hull girder modes are presented in this paper. Code requirements for other modes will be presented in future publication. A specific provision of the code will be safety check expression, which, for example, for three bending moments (still water Ms, wave Mw, and dynamic Md), and strength Mu, might have the form, following the partial safety factor format: γsMs+γwMw+γdMd≤φMu γs, γw, γd, and φ are the partial safety factors. The design variables (M’s) are to be taken at their nominal values, typically values in the safe side of the respective distributions. Other safety check expressions for hull girder failure that include load combination factors, as well as consequence of failure factors, are considered. This paper provides a summary of safety check expressions for the hull girder modes.

By significantly changing the evaluation criteria set out in the Rules on Conditions for Election in Scientific Titles in 2017, law field scientists began to observe the publication of their papers in a way that has not yet been introduced - through scoring, new categorization and indexing in Scopus and WoSCC bases. At the same time, this required the adaptation of scientific journals to the same proclaimed conditions. This is why the characteristics of Croatian legal-scientific reality, in terms of paper publication, have become conditioned by the efforts to undergo standardization and metrics. At the same time this happens without respecting the inherent fundamental characteristic of law as a discipline. One of the basic ones is primarily national orientation. The paper provides a normative analysis of the previous and positive conditions related to the evaluation of the published scientific papers in the field of law, as well as the results of the research obtained by examining law scientists at the four law faculties in the Republic of Croatia. Research findings bring the features of the previous modality of publishing on behalf of legal scientists in Croatia in the light of the new conditions and indicate that the changes presented will affect future publication intention in the field of law.
