Lifetimes of the excited states in the yrast band of 102Pd have been deter- mined using the Recoil-Distance Doppler Shift experiment at INFN, Labo- ratori Nazionali di Legnaro. Excited states in 102Pd were populated by the 92Zr(13C,3n)102Pd fusion-evaporation reaction. Lifetimes were deduced using the Differential Decay Curve method and the corresponding B(E2) values were compared to the E(5) critical-point symmetry, and also the U(5) and O(6) limits of the Interacting Boson Model-1. It is evident that 102Pd agrees poorly with the predicted E(5) symmetry but has a very good (and somewhat surprising) agreement with the O(6) limit.

Mean lifetimes for the lowest 6 yrast band members have been measured using the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift technique (RDDS). The data have been analyzed via the Differential Decay Curve Method (DDCM). The transition probabilities deduced from the data for the ground band E2 γ-rays are in rather good agreement with the predictions of the U(5)-limit of interacting boson model-1 (IBM-1).

Lifetimes of excited states of 124Ba were measured by the Recoil Distance Doppler Shift (RDDS) technique. The γ-ray coincidence data were analysed by the Differential Decay Curve method (DDCM). The trend of the experimentally deduced normalized B(E2) values reveals a drop at the 8+1 state, which may be caused by structural changes in the backbending region.

To study the nuclear structure of neutron-rich titanium isotopes, a lifetime measurement was performed at the Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) facility in Caen, France. The nucleiwere produced in a multinucleon-transfer reaction by using a 6.76 MeV/u 238U beam. The Advanced Gamma Tracking Array (AGATA) was employed for the γ-ray detection and target-like recoils were identified event-by-event by the large-acceptance variable mode spectrometer (VAMOS++). Preliminary level lifetimes of the (5/2−) to 13/2− states of the yrast band in the neutron-rich nucleus 53Ti were measured for the first time employing the recoil distance Doppler-shift (RDDS) method and the compact plunger for deep inelastic reactions. The differential decay curve method (DDCM) was used to obtain the lifetimes from the RDDS data.

Lifetimes of exited states in 134 Pr were measured be means of the recoil distance Doppler-shift and Doppler-shift attenuation techniques. The experiments were performed at IReS, Strasbourg using the EUROBALL IV spectrometer, in conjunction with the inner BGO ball and the Cologne coincidence plunger apparatus. Exited states in 134 Pr were populated in the fusion-evaporation reaction 119 Sn (19 F , 4 n )134 Pr . Reduced transition probabilities in 134 Pr are compared to the predictions of the two quasiparticle+triaxial rotor and interacting boson fermion-fermion models. The experimental results do not support the presence of static chirality in 134 Pr underlying the importance of shape fluctuations. Only within a dynamical context the presence of intrinsic chirality in 134 Pr can be supported.

Quantum phase transitional patterns in the whole parameter space of the consistent-Q Hamiltonian in the Interacting Boson Model are studied based on an implemented Fortran code for numerical computation of the matrix elements in the SU (3) Draayer-Akiyama basis. Results with respect to both ground and some excited states of the model Hamiltonian are discussed. Quantum phase transitional behavior under a variety of parameter situations is shown. It is found that transitional behavior of excited states is more complicated. Pt isotopes are taken as examples in illustrating the prolate-oblate shape phase transition.

The non-yrast states of the odd-odd nucleus 56Co have been investigated by studying the γ-rays induced in the predominantly fusion-evaporation reaction 56Fe(p,n γ)56Co at an incident energy of 10 MeV. The γ-rays were measured in-beam with four high-resolution MINIBALL-triple germanium (Ge) detectors. The experiment provided excellent data in γ-γ coincidences. The complex level scheme of 56Co was constructed mainly based on the analysis of these γ-γ coincidences. The angular distributions of the γ-rays were also analysed and allowed us to assign spin-parity values to most of the excited states in this nucleus. Despite the extensive work previously done studying the 56Co nucleus, the analysis presented in this work has resulted in a large improvement in the knowledge of its structure.

The interacting boson model (IBM) of Arima and Iachello is examined. The transition between the rotational and vibrational modes of even–even nuclei is presented as a function of a sphericity parameter, which is determined primarily from yrast band spectra. The backbending feature is reasonably reproduced.

Lifetime measurements in 128Xe have been undertaken at the JYFL accelerator facility using the novel Coulex-plunger in inverse kinematics technique [1], [2]. Excited states in 128Xe were populated by the natFe(128Xe, 128Xe*) reaction at E(128Xe)=525 MeV and the subsequent de-excitations were detected in the JUROGAM γ-ray array. Two independent analyses of the data were performed. Firstly the Differential Decay Curve Method (DDCM) [3] was applied to determine lifetimes of the excited states. Secondly, matrix elements and their corresponding B(E2) values, were extracted using the computer code GOSIA [4]. The results are presented and compared with the adopted values. Also, B(E2) values obtained from this work are compared to the values predicted by the E(5) critical-point symmetry, since 128Xe has been proposed as a candidate for E(5) symmetry [5].

Abstract The properties of 170 Er, 172Yb, 174Hf, and 176Wisotones have been studied and their energy states calculated. To identify the properties of each isotone, the values of the first excited states, E 2 1 + and the ratio of the second excited states to the first excited states, R 4 / 2 = E 4 1 + / E 2 1 + for all nuclei under consideration were adopted. To determine the properties of each nucleus, the relationship between the moment of inertia 2𝜗/ℏ 2 and the square of the angular frequency, ℏ 2 𝜔 2, the relationship between successive excited states to those preceding them r ( I + 2 ) I ) and the ΔI = 1 staggering between the GSB and the NPB states were studied for all states of 170Er, 172Yb, 174Hf, and 176W isotones. After identifying the properties of each isotone, the rotational limit in the interacting boson model IBM-1 and the IVBM model was used to calculate the energy states for each isotone and the results were compared with the experimental values. and good agreement was observed with some exception. The inaccuracy of some calculations in the IBM-1 results from the lying of some high states out the range of the rotational properties that were used.
