The possibility of using hydrocyclone plants for cleaning used oils is considered. The dependence of the degree of purification of waste oil on insoluble impurities is determined theoretically, determined by the mass content of particles in the oil flow removed through the lower drainage hole, from the time of the particle in the hydrocyclone and the radius of the surface of zero axial velocity, which determines the separation of the oil flow and the entrainment of particles through the upper or lower discharge holes.

Based on a preliminary study that has been carried out, Teluk Nilap Village, Kubu Babussalam District, Rokan Hilir was affected by the disposal of waste from oil company. The waste partly seeps into the residents' water sources which are used for domestic activities. It was because the location of the water sources close to the location of the waste oil disposal. The sampling technique in this study used the observation point technique (pumping test). Sampling refers to the point of waste oil flow (upstream, middle, downstream) and dug well water taken randomly (random sampling). The results showed pH values ranged from 2.8 to 6.6; BOD values range from 0.42 to 141.1 mg / L; COD values range from 20 to 291 mg / L. Ground water quality at some point in Teluk Nilap Village exceeded quality standard limits allowed and included in heavy pollution category.

Based on the system analysis using IDF0 diagrams, functional models of existing technical systems for cleaning used oil have been constructed. The influence of the parameters of the technological process on the time of its flow and the degree of purification of the used oil are described. After studying the influence of the parameters of the technological process of cleaning used oil and analyzing the existing automated technical oil purification systems, the necessity of developing a new automated technical system for cleaning the waste oil is substantiated, in which the parameters of the process that have not been considered previously will be monitored.
