Four light treatments (W: white light; EOD-B: end-of-day enhanced blue light; EOD-FR: end-of-day supplementary far-red light; EOD-UV: end-of-day supplementary ultraviolet-A light) were designed to explore the effects of end-of-day (EOD) lightings (30 min before dark period) on leaf color, biomass and phytochemicals accumulation in two lettuce cultivars (Lactuca sativa cv. ‘Red butter’ and ‘Green butter’) in artificial light plant factory. EOD-FR stimulated the plant and shoot biomass of two cultivars, and EOD-B suppressed the growth of ‘Red butter’ but induced higher biomass in ‘Green butter’. EOD lightings generated brighter, greener and yellower leaf in ‘Red butter’ at harvest, but the highest lightness and the deepest redness of ‘Green butter’ leaf were observed in the middle growth stage. ‘Red butter’ had prominent higher contents of chlorophylls and carotenoids, while these pigments showed less sensitivity to the interaction of cultivars and EOD lightings. EOD lightings impeded the accumulation of anthocyanin in two cultivars, except EOD-UV slightly increased the anthocyanin contents in ‘Green butter’. EOD-UV strengthened the antioxidant capability of ‘Green butter’, but EOD lightings had different effects on the antioxidant and nutritional compound contents in two lettuce cultivars.

<p>Lettuce (<em>Lactuca sativa</em> L.) is one of the most popular vegetables worldwide, but is often viewed as low in nutritional value. However, lettuce contains health-promoting nutrients and biosynthesis of such phytochemicals varies depending on cultivar, leaf color and growing conditions. Studies of such parameters on the nutritional value have not been conclusive because the lettuce samples were collected from heterogeneous growing conditions and/or various developmental stages. In our study nutritional composition was evaluated in the two most popular lettuce types in Western diets, romaine and crisphead ‘Iceberg’, with red or green leaves grown under uniform cultivating conditions and harvested at the same developmental stage. In the investigated lettuce cultivars, insoluble fiber content was higher (<em>P </em>≤ 0.05) in romaine than crisphead lettuces. Alpha-linolenic acid (omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid) was the predominant fatty acid and was higher in romaine than crisphead. Iron and bone health-promoting minerals (Ca, Mg and Mn) were significantly higher (<em>P</em> ≤ 0.001) in romaine. The content of Beta-carotene and lutein in romaine (668.3 ug g<sup>-1</sup> dry weight) was ~45% higher than in crisphead (457.3 ug g<sup>-1</sup>dry weight). For leaf color comparison, red cultivars provided higher amount of minerals (Ca, P, Mn and K), total carotenoids, total anthocyanins and phenolics than green cultivars. Based on our study results, romaine was generally higher in nutrients analyzed, especially red romaine contained significantly higher amount of total carotenoids, total anthocyanins and phenolics. Therefore, romaine type lettuces with red rather than green leaves may offer a better nutritional choice.</p>

Sistem hidroponik memungkinkan sayuran ditanam di daerah yang kurang subur dan daerah sempit yang padat penduduknya. Alasan penerapan teknik hidroponik yang utama adalah karena terbatasnya lahan pertanian yang produktif untuk memenuhi kebutuhan manusia yang semakin banyak tiap tahunnya, sehingga dibutuhkan suatu terobosan baru untuk memecahkan masalah tersebut. Penelitian ini telah dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2015 sampai bulan Januari 2016 yang bertempat di kampus Fakultas Pertanian Jl. Propinsi Kecamatan Tembilahan Hulu Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir Propinsi Riau.Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial yang terdiri dari 2 faktor. Faktor pertama adalah jenis POC (N) yang terdiri dari 3 taraf perlakuan yaitu POC Jus Bumi, POC Bonggol Pisang danPOC Limbah Sayuran. Faktor kedua adalah konsentrasi larutan (K) yang terdiri dari 3 taraf perlakuan yaitu 150 ppm, 200 ppm dan 250 ppm. Parameter pengamatan adalah Tinggi Tanaman , Jumlah Daun , Luas Daun , Diameter Batang, Panjang akar ,Volume Akar, Kadar Air, dan Bobot Hasil.Hasil pengamatan menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan jenis POC jus bumi dengan konsentrasi larutan 150 ppm memberikan pertumbuhan dan produksi terbaik untuk tanaman selada secara hidroponik sistem wick. Perlakuan jenis POC limbah sayuran dengan konsentrasi 250 ppm memberikan pertumbuhan dan produksi terbaik selain POC jus bumi sehingga dapat dijadikan sumber POC alternatif.

Xà lách (Lactuca sativa L.) là một loại rau ăn lá quan trọng có giá trị dinh dưỡng và kinh tế cao. Cây Xà lách có đặc điểm là loại rau ngắn ngày, có thời gian sinh trưởng ngắn khoảng từ 45 - 55 ngày, có thể phát triển tốt trên nhiều loại đất, là loại rau ăn sống được sử dụng rất phổ biến trong bữa ăn hàng ngày của người dân Việt Nam nên nó được trồng quanh năm, do vậy vấn đề về chất lượng lại càng phải được quan tâm nhiều hơn. Bài báo này giới thiệu kết quả phân tích về dư lượng nitrat và các kim loại nặng (Cu, Pb, Zn) trong rau Xà lách vụ Xuân - Hè 2012 - 2013 ở phường Hương Long - thành phố Huế. Kết quả nghiên cứu cho thấy: đất trồng rau Xà lách tại phường Hương Long – thành phố Huế đạt tiêu chuẩn về hàm lượng kim loại nặng (Pb, Zn) theo QCVN 03:2008/BTNMT, nhưng hàm lượng Cu và nitrat là khá cao. Rau Xà lách thành phẩm có dư lượng nitrat cao hơn 1,21% so với quy định và các kim loại nặng (Pb, Zn, Cu) tồn dư trong rau lại ở mức cao và vượt tiêu chuẩn cho phép nhiều lần sẽ ảnh hưởng đến sức khỏe của người sử dụng.
