With the rise in the online demand for fashion and textiles (FTs) along with the development of e-commerce, a business mode called drop-shipping mode has emerged. Despite the fact that the drop-shipping mode has many merits, this method has less earning power compared with the traditional business mode. This study proposes a mix business mode for FTs chains in an e-commerce environment. Traditional and drop-shipping modes are special cases of the mix mode. In addition, a generalized model is built to analyze the profitability of FTs chains. Our study shows that, in most cases, the mix mode improves overall profit of FTs chain. Moreover, we consider the seasonality and the short life cycle of fashion items in analyzing the relationship between the e-retailer's optimal inventory level and demand distribution parameters. The numerical example shows that, by changing their inventory level, e-retailers can address the demand fluctuation using the mix mode. The proposed mix mode employs both business modes to enhance the profitability of a FTs chain. As such, the mix mode is an effective method to address demand fluctuation for FTs in an e-commerce environment.

Fresh cut flower supply chains are aware of the need for reducing spoilage and increasing customer satisfaction. This paper focuses on a part of the cut rose supply chain, from auction house to several end customers. A new business mode is considered that would allow end customers to subscribe to florists and have a continuous supply of bouquets of roses. To make this business mode feasible, we propose to benefit from real-time information on roses’ remaining vase life. First, a quality-aware modeling technique is applied to describe supply chain events and quality change of cut roses among several supply chain players. Then, a distributed model predictive control strategy is used to make up-to-date decisions for supply chain players according to the latest logistics and quality information. This approach provides a tool for multiple stakeholders to collaboratively plan the logistics activities in a typical cut rose supply chain based on roses’ estimated vase life in real time. The proposed approach is compared with a currently used business mode in simulation experiments. Results illustrate that the new business mode and the planning approach could reduce unmet demand and spoilage in a cut rose supply chain.

By the developing and the application of cloud manufacturing, many new business modes based on the IoT, CPS, cloud computing are springing up. It is worthwhile to model a new business mode simulate it to verify the feasibility. In this paper, with a demand of smart devices from a fresh-mix drink company, service agents are used for modeling and a basic comparison model is proposed for the negotiation between service providers to vote for the service provider that best suits the consumer’s demand. A simulation platform that originates from cloud manufacturing is used to simulate the drink ordering, provider negotiation and provider recommendation. Simulation results show that consumers can obtain expected drinks after the negotiations and votes made by providers. Moreover, the system can recommend drinks with different freshness depending on the expiration parameter set by the company.

The method of analyzing and modeling cyclical fluctuations of economy initiated by F. Kydland and E. Prescott - the 2004 Nobel Prize winners in Economics - is considered in the article. They proposed a new business cycle theory integrating the theory of long-run economic growth as well as the microeconomic theory of consumers and firms behavior. Simple version of general dynamic and stochastic macroeconomic model is described. The given approach which was formulated in their fundamental work "Time to Build and Aggregate Fluctuations" (1982) gave rise to an extensive research program and is still used as a basic instrument for investigating cyclical processes in economy nowadays.
