Biodiversitas 21: 3249-3254. The species composition and richness of cave-dwelling bats in 16 caves of Cebu Island were studied to provide resource managers and local government units in Cebu baseline information that may be used toward conservation and sustainable utilization and management of local cave resources. Stationary and mobile mist-netting were employed at the entrance and dark zones of the caves to maximize the capture of bats. The study accounts for 15 species of cave bats, of which two were unidentified but are believed to be potentially new species, namely Rhinolophus sp. and Myotis sp., and three are new distribution records to Cebu, namely Rhinolophus philippinensis, Eonycteris robusta, and Megaderma spasma. In terms of richness values, Balay’g Agta holds six species and the remaining caves have less than five species. The presence of endemic, potentially new species and new distribution records of bats presents high conservation value and raises concern and calls for urgent action to protect the caves and the resources therein.

This contribution aims to revise the taxonomy of the genus Heptodonta Hope, 1838, and provides a dichotomous key to the 15 species of this genus. Each species is described in detail with colour photographs of habitus and diagnostic characters. Information on distribution and biology of each species is provided. Heptodonta abasileia sp. nov., H. halensis sp. nov., H. horii sp. nov., H. schuelei sp. nov., H. tempesta sp. nov. and H. wiesneri sp. nov. are described. Heptodonta nigrosericea (W. Horn, 1930), stat. nov. is raised to species rank. Heptodonta ferrarii Gestro, 1893, syn. nov. and H. ferrarii shooki Wiesner, 1986, syn. nov. are placed into synonymy under H. pulchella (Hope, 1831). Heptodonta lumawigi Wiesner, 1980, syn. nov. is placed into synonymy under H. nigrosericea stat. nov. Females of H. vermifera W. Horn, 1908, and males of H. mindoroensis Cassola, 2000, are described for the first time. Lectotypes are designated for H. analis (Fabricius, 1801), H. arrowi W. Horn, 1900, H. ferrarii Gestro, 1893, H. hopei Parry, 1844, H. melanopyga (Schaum, 1862), H. nigrosericea (W. Horn, 1930), H. posticalis (White, 1844), H. pulchella (Hope, 1831), H. thongdii Fleutiaux, 1919, H. variipes (Chaudoir, 1850), H. vermifera W. Horn, 1908, and H. yunnana (Fairmaire, 1887). Holotype is designated by monotypy for H. eugenia Chaudoir, 1865. Regionally restricted records of two new species from the Philippine island Negros and one new species from the northeast Indian Garo Hills highlight the high conservation value of these rather small-scale regions.

Gauteng is the most densely populated province in South Africa. Its remaining natural areas are constantly under threat from urban development and the associated impacts. Presently, the natural areas of Gauteng support a large diversity of ecosystems. One such ecosystem is the Egoli Granite Grassland, endemic to the province, poorly conserved and therefore highly threatened. This paper describes the original Egoli Granite Grassland and the anthropogenic Hyparrhenia hirta dominated grassland that has replaced it in many of the remnant areas. Human impacts on this sensitive ecosystem have resulted in an altered species composition, loss of many species, and a change from a species-rich grassland with high conservation value to a species-poor grassland with low conservation value. The conservation of the last remaining relicts of original Egoli Granite Grassland is essential.

The Encyonopsis microcephala-complex occurs in oligo-mesotrophic freshwaters and is often abundant in the periphyton of low nutrient lakes of high conservation value. It is globally distributed and increasing in apparent diversity with the discovery of additional species. To better differentiate this taxonomic aggregate, we re-examined the original type material of E. alpina, E. angusta and E. tavirana with light (LM) and scanning electron (SEM) microscopy. We investigated the morphology, ultrastructure and ecology of Encyonopsis populations from Ireland, which included previously unreported taxa and morphodemes of E. krammeri, E. neerlandica and E. subminuta. The apparently cosmopolitan E. microcephala was not found in collections from Ireland but two new species were described and compared to others in the complex. Encyonopsis carraensis sp. nov. was associated with a marl-precipitating community in low nutrient lakes, while Encyonopsis hibernica sp. nov. occurred in more productive waterbodies. Several Encyonopsis species had environmental optima near the oligo-mesotrophic boundary characteristic of the microcephala-complex. However, the niches of others were distributed along a wider gradient of water quality. Therefore, when Encyonopsis populations are prevalent in epilithic communities, the use of a more refined taxonomy is recommended for lake ecological assessment.

The Poledňana Nature Reserve is located in the northeastern part of the Beskydy PLA, close to Staré Hamry town. The subject of protection are old growth forests with natural-like tree composition. During the survey in 2021, 43 species (42 terrestrial and one aquatic) of gastropods were recorded. The species composition consists predominantly of woodland dwellers (28 spp.; 65%) followed by eurytopic (5; 12%), hygrophilous woodland dwellers (4; 12%), hygrophilous (3; 7%), strongly hygrophilous (1; 2%) and one (2%) aquatic species. Endangered Bulgarica cana, indicating high conservation value of local forest fragment, vulnerable Daudebardia brevipes, Eucobresia nivalis, Vitrea transsylvanica, nearly threatened Bielzia coerulans, Bythinella austriaca and Vestia turgida are species of conservation importance. There is need to preserve non-interventional regime in the most valuable parts to retain and to establish favorable habitat conservation status. The tree composition in spruce-dominated areas should be gradually changed towards natural composition.

TÓM TẮT Đầm phá Tam Giang - Cầu Hai thuộc vào hệ đầm phá lớn nhất Đông Nam Á với diện tích 22.000 ha, đặc trưng cho vùng nhiệt đới gió mùa. Hệ đầm phá là vùng có giá trị về đa dạng sinh học, sinh thái và môi trường. Từ 08/2014 đến 07/2015 chúng tôi đã tiến hành thu thập vật mẫu, nghiên cứu và đã xác định được 24 loài động vật hai mảnh vỏ thuộc 19 giống, 11 họ, 7 bộ. Bổ sung thêm 6 loài thuộc 6 giống, 5 họ mới so với nghiên cứu trước đây. Đánh giá được đặc điểm phân bố về thành phần loài, mật độ cá thể động vật hai mảnh vỏ theo ba loại nền đáy (cát bùn, bùn cát và giá thể) và ba nhóm loài theo độ mặn (loài nước ngot, nước lợ và nước mặn). Abstract Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon is the largest in Southeast Asia. It is ​​22,000 hectares. Lagoon system is high of biodiversity, ecology and environment. According to a researcher from August 2014 to July 2015, we have identified 24 species of 19 genera of 11 families of 7 orders of bivalve (Bivalvia) to be living in Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon. The result added 6 new species of 6 genera of 5 orders compared with previous studies. We have appreciated distribution characteristics of species composition, density of individual animals bivalve in three categories substrata (silt, sand and substrate ) and three groups of species under salinity (species of freshwater, brackish and saltwater).

Three new species of Otostigmus Porat, 1876 from Brazilian Atlantic Forest are described. Otostigmus beckeri sp. n. andO. lanceolatus sp. n. are described from the state of Bahia and O. giupponii sp. n. from the state of Espírito Santo. InBrazil, the otostigmine scolopendrid genus Otostigmus comprises 22 species. A summary of Brazilian Otostigmus speciesis presented with new distribution records, taxonomic remarks when appropriate and an identification key. Otostigmus sul-catus Meinert, 1886 is recorded for the first time from Brazil; the Andean Otostigmus silvestrii Kraepelin 1903, previouslyrecorded from Brazil, is here considered not to be present in this country. Eight nominal species are regarded here as newsynonyms. Five of them—Otostigmus pradoi Bücherl, 1939, O. longistigma Bücherl, 1939, O. longipes Bücherl, 1939,O. langei Bücherl, 1946 and O. dentifusus Bücherl, 1946—are based on females of O. tibialis Brölemann, 1902. O. latipesBücherl, 1954 is conspecific with and is considered a junior synonym of O. sulcatus Meinert, 1886; O. limbatus diminutusBücherl, 1946 is a junior synonym of O. limbatus Meinert, 1886 and O. fossulatus Attems, 1928 is a junior synonym of O. goeldii Brölemann, 1898. A lectotype is designated for O. goeldii.

Neomuscina Townsend includes 41 species distributed throughout the Nearctic and Neotropical Regions. Although the genus has a large number of species, it has been ignored and its taxonomy is confusing and has many flaws. In this work we analyzed the following species recorded for Brazil: Neomuscina atincta Snyder, N. atincticosta Snyder, N. capalta Snyder, N. currani Snyder, N. douradensis Lopes & Khouri, N. goianensis Lopes & Khouri, N. inflexa (Stein), N. instabilis Snyder, N. mediana Snyder, N. mimosa Lopes & Khouri, N. neosimilis Snyder, N. nigricosta Snyder, N. paramediana Lopes & Khouri, N. pictipennis pictipennis (Bigot), N. ponti Lopes & Khouri, N. sanespra Snyder, N. schadei Snyder, N. similata Snyder, N. stabilis (Stein), N. transporta Snyder, N. vitoriae Lopes & Khouri and N. zosteris (Shannon & Del Ponte). Neomuscina nigricosta and N. transporta are new distribution records for Brazil. Three new species are described: Neomuscina anajeensis sp. nov. from Anagé (Bahia), Neomuscina maculata sp. nov. from Botelhos (Minas Gerais) and Neomuscina snyderi sp. nov. from Mata de São João (Bahia). An identification key based on the morphological characters of both male and female is provided. Species distributions are discussed and updated, and the number of species now recorded for Brazil is 29.

The orchid flora of Myanmar is highly diverse but as yet poorly known in the continental Asia, which is largely a result of periods of past instability and political isolation of the country. Also the remoteness of many orchid-rich areas and the difficulties of investigation in rugged terrain have also played a role (Ormerod & Kumar, 2003; Kurzweil & Lwin, 2014). According to recent estimates about 800 orchid species are distributed in Myanmar (Kurzweil & Lwin, 2014), which were probably underestimated. Many new distribution records and new species have been published in the last few years (Ormerod, 2002, 2006, 2012; Ormerod & Kumar, 2003, 2008; Ormerod & Wood, 2010; Nyunt, 2006; Kurzweil et al., 2010; Kurzweil & Lwin, 2012a,b; Tanaka et al. 2011).

A new species of the genus Sympleurotis Bates from Jalisco, Mexico is described and illustrated. Details of a new state record of Sympleurotis rudis Bates, 1881 from Chiapas, Mexico is also included.
