Abstract An exact constraint scheme based on the physical contacting constraints of real part mating features is used to represent the process of assembling the parts. To provide useful probability information about how assembly dimensions are distributed when the parts are assembled as intended, the real world constraints that would prevent interference are ignored. This work addresses some limitations in the area of three dimensional assembly tolerance analysis. As a result of this work, the following were demonstrated: 1. Assembly of parts whose assembly mating features are subjected to variation; 2. Assemble parts using a real world set of exact constraints; 3. Provide probability distributions of assembly dimensions.

Even when all manufactured parts for an assembly are produced within limits, these parts still may not assemble properly if the assembly tolerance analysis was inadequately performed. Naturally occurring shifts in a process can produce biased distributions which can result in increased assembly problems and a greater number of rejects than anticipated. The most common methods of analysis of assembly tolerance buildup are worst case and root sum squares. The limitations of each of these methods are discussed and a simple new method is proposed which accounts for expected bias. This new method includes both worst case and root sum squares as extreme cases.

Abstract Clamping force and shimming are two important compensation processes in the composites assembly. Their effects on variation propagation should be investigated in tolerance analysis. The paper presents a tolerance analysis method for composites assembly based on the T-Maps method, mainly concerning the anisotropic variations accumulation and propagation where there is the clamping force modification and the shimming. Variations of the composite parts in different directions are represented by the T-Maps. Since the different axial deviations are represented in the same Euclidean point-space, the T-Maps based tolerance analysis of the composite parts assembly provides more accurate and reliable results. Compensation processes, the clamping force, and the shimming, on assembly tolerance synthesis of the composite parts, are analyzed clearly in the T-Map. This procedure is found to be effective for the anisotropy oriented assembly tolerance analysis, especially concerning about effect of the clamping force and the shimming on variations accumulation and propagation. The assembly of an aircraft composite elevator is considered to demonstrate the effectiveness of the T-Maps based method. The procedures outlined in the paper are quite general and can be used for assembly tolerance analysis of anisotropic parts.

The paper proposed a new tolerance analysis method: a unified tolerance and deviation model is adopted to synthesize different kinds of tolerances; an integrated tolerance propagation model is designed to construct the functional relationship between the tolerances and quality requirements. The method is simpler and more widely applicable than the traditional linearization analysis method. A case study is provided to illustrate the proposed method.

This paper presents a novel approach for the configuration and runtime usage of user interfaces or Human Machine Interface (HMI) systems based on research being conducted at the Distributed Systems Group, Loughborough University. This research is investigating the replacement of conventional PLC/PC systems with a Component Based control approach suitable for the automotive engine manufacturing industry. HMI (operator interface) systems for production machines must effectively fully support an increasingly complex machine lifecycle involving engineering input from many globally distributed engineering partners. Current HMI Systems are standalone offering poor connectivity and requiring highly specialist skilled personnel to develop and maintain the systems. The goal of Component Based (C-B) systems is to compose machines from modular units with embedded intelligence. The “intelligence” has different functional domains, e.g. sequencing and interlocking logic, 3D virtual modeling, visualization, diagnostics, service and operating interfaces, etc. The underlying framework of the C-B paradigm is a common model system repository where all components are stored. This facilitates visibility of the system common model to all the globally distributed engineering partners involved in a given project. Within the C-B framework, HMI systems are composed from instances of reusable software templates that are targeted at specific user types. User targeted operator interfaces offer a common look and feel that improves usability. The machine’s configuration is achieved by populating a series of HMI templates to produce a complete machine HMI system. A thin-client architecture is used based on server/ client internet technologies that allow the machine HMI to be executed on any internet enabled computer using a standard web browser. It is possible to drive both the real machine and a simulated 3D virtual machine model via the HMI, enabling engineers to be trained on the operation of the HMI prior to the real machine being completed.

The selection of the 2017 DKI Jakarta governor was attended by 3 candidates, including the pair Agus Harimurti - Sylviana Murni, the pair Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat and the couple Anies Baswedan - Sandiaga Uno. Basuki Tjahaj Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat is a pair of incumbent governors who again competed in this gubernatorial election. The researcher focused on research to find out how the strategy used by the incumbent governor pair in facing the 2017 DKI Jakarta gubernatorial election. In this case, the author uses the Constructivist paradigm, namely, the truth of a social reality seen as a result of social construction, and the truth of a social reality is relative. The type of research used is descriptive, which describes a social situation as it is by using a qualitative descriptive analysis method. Based on this research regarding the campaign strategy of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat in facing the gubernatorial election, the researchers concluded that the pair Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat possessed and re-demonstrated the real program that was directly felt by the community and also maximized the entire media to socialize their upcoming programs. Pemilihan gubernur DKI Jakarta 2017 diikuti oleh 3 pasangan calon antara lain pasangan Agus Harimurti – Sylviana Murni, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama – Djarot Saiful Hidayat dan Anies Baswedan – Sandiaga Uno. Pasangan Basuki Tjahaj Purnama – Djarot Saiful Hidayat adalah pasangan gubernur petahana yang kembali bersaing dalam pemilihan gubernur ini. Peneliti memfokuskan penelitian untuk mengetahui bagaimana strategi yang digunakan oleh pasangan gubernur petahana dalam menghadapi pemilihan gubernur DKI Jakarta 2017 ini. Dalam hal ini, penulis menggunakan paradigma Konstruktivis yaitu,  kebenaran suatu realitas sosial dilihat sebagai hasil konstruksi sosial, dan kebenaran suatu realitas sosial bersifat relatif.  Tipe penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian yaitu deskriptif, yang menggambarkan suatu keadaan sosial secara apa adanya dengan menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif kualitatif. Berdasarkan penelitian ini mengenai strategi kampanye Basuki Tjahaja Purnama – Djarot Saiful Hidayat dalam menghadapi pemilihan gubernur, maka peneliti membuat kesimpulan bahwa pasangan Basuki Tjahaja Purnama - Djarot Saiful Hidayat memiliki dan menunjukkan kembali program nyata yang sudah dirasakan langsung oleh masyarakat dan juga pasangan ini memaksimalkan seluruh media untuk mensosialisasikan program mereka yang akan datang.
