AbstractA strategy to mitigate the negative effects of stress on animals is to enhance their ability to beneficially respond to stressful conditions. This study aimed to assess whether prenatal ambient temperature influences the response of Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) chicks to environmental challenges during growth. The experiment was conducted in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement: two temperature conditions for the mothers (thermoneutral and heat stress by continuous exposure to 32 °C) and two offspring ambient temperature conditions (thermoneutral and heat stress by intermittent exposure to 34 °C for 6 h/day from 15 to 35 days of age). Heat stress in mothers led to lower laying rate, egg mass, expression of methionine sulfoxide reductase A (MSRA) gene, and antioxidant capacity as well as higher chick mortality rate (1–15 days of age). Maternal heat stress led to lower weight gain and total antioxidant capacity and higher feed conversion ratio. Maternal temperature × Offspring temperature interaction effects were observed on carbonylated protein content and HSP70, GSS, and MSRA gene expression. It was observed that, for chicks hatched from heat-stressed mothers, exposure to heat stress led to higher carbonylated protein content and HSP70 expression than exposure to thermoneutral conditions. Maternal heat stress was also responsible for increasing GSS expression in chicks grown under thermoneutral conditions. Chicks hatched from non-stressed mothers and subjected to heat stress had higher MSRA expression compared to chicks maintained in a thermoneutral environment. Our results show that, although maternal heat stress had no negative effects on performance or oxidative metabolism of offspring grown under thermoneutral conditions, it was associated with lower performance and higher protein oxidation in offspring exposed to heat stress during growth. These results could be due in part to alterations in the expression of genes related to antioxidant capacity.

Abstrak. Puyuh merupakan salah satu jenis unggas yang memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan dan ditingkatkan produksinya. Selain menghasilkan daging, puyuh juga menghasilkan telur untuk  memenuhi kebutuhan protein hewani bagi masyarakat. Salah satu faktor yang mempengaruhi keuntungan usaha serta produksi telur  puyuh adalah bibit. Banyaknya peternakan puyuh yang melakukan pembibitan sendiri menyebabkan perkawinan puyuh tidak terkendali dan cenderung terjadinya perkawinan sejenis (inbreeding) yang menyebabkan mutu genetik puyuh menurun. Salah satu cara untuk memperbaiki mutu genetik ternak puyuh perlu dilakukannya perkawinan silang secara (Crossbreeding) yang diharapkan dapat memperbaiki mutu genetik serta memberikan keuntungan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kelayakan usaha pembibitan puyuh Jepang (Coturnix coturnix japonica) dengan Hybrid yang dipelihara secara intensif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa usaha pembibitan puyuh persilangan memberikan keuntungan pada perlakuan P1 didapatkan pendapatan sebesar Rp. 93.376,- sedangkan P2, sebesar  Rp. 98.197, P3, sebesar Rp. 92.158,- dan pada perlakuan P4, sebesar Rp. 103.053,-  dengan analisis kelayakan usaha yang didapatkan mempunyai prospek yang baik dan layak untuk dijadikan usaha. Pada perlakuan P1 dan P2 dengan nilai R/C ratio 1.4 sedangkan pada perlakuan P3 nilai R/C ratio adalah 1.3 dan pada perlakuan P4 mendapatkan nilai R/C ratio 1.3. dengan perhitungan B/C ratio pada perlakuan P1 dan P2 didapatkan nilai 0.4, sedangkan pada perlakuan P3 dan P4 didapatkan nilai B/C ratio 0.3.Financial Analysis of Japanese Crossbred Quail Breeding (Coturnix coturnix japonica) with Intensive Hybrid QuailAbstract. Quail is one type of bird that has the potential to be developed and increased production. In addition to producing meat, quail also produces eggs to meet the needs of animal protein for the community. One of the factors that influence business profits and the production of quail eggs is seeds. the large number of quail farms that do their own breeding cause uncontrolled quail marriage and tend to occur inbreeding which causes the genetic quality of quail to decline. One way to improve the genetic quality of quail cattle is to do crossbreeding which is expected to improve genetic quality and provide benefits. The purpose of this study was to determine the feasibility of Japanese quail nursery business (Coturnix coturnix japonica) with Hybridwhich is maintained intensively. The results of the study showed that the breeding of quail crosses gave advantages in treatment P1, the income of Rp. 93,376, - while P2, Rp. 98,197, P3, amounting to Rp. 92,158, - and in treatment P4, Rp. 103,053, - with a business feasibility analysis obtained having good prospects and worthy of being a business. In treatment P1 and P2 with the value of R / C ratio 1.4 while in treatment P3 the value of R / C ratio is 1.3 and in treatment P4 get the value of R / C ratio 1.3. with the calculation of B / C ratio in treatment P1 and P2 obtained a value of 0.4, while the treatment P3 and P4 obtained the value of B / C ratio 0.3.
