Abstract The number of obese and overweight people around the world rapidly grows and takes on epidemic proportions. The aim of this research is to determine the influence of body weight on quality of life and to investigate our patients' consciousness about their body weight and its impact on their quality of life. Methods : The cross-sectional study was conducted by interviewing 1067 respondents, using the WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. Results : Out of 1067 patients, 684 were females. 65.5 % of patients had BMI ≥25 kg/m 2 . 21.7% of 699 patients who had BMI ≥25 kg/m 2 think that their increased body weight doesn’t affect their health, 27.9 % of respondents think that their overweight is unrelated to physical activity, 41.8 % of respondents have no problems purchasing the clothes due to their weight and 31.6 % of respondents with BMI ≥25 kg/m 2 think that it doesn’t affect their quality of life. Conclusion : Quality of life is significantly better in respondents with BMI <25 kg/m 2 . The alarming result is that slightly less than half of respondents think that overweight doesn’t affect their health and don’t understand the seriousness of the problem.

This study aimed to check for any significant differences in perceived quality of life, specifically aspects of a physical nature, among volunteers who are more physically active and those less physically active in a university community. The sample consisted of 1,966 volunteers in a university community in Brazil. To assess physical activity levels, volunteers responded to the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and to analyse the perception of quality of life they responded to WHOQOL-bref, which is classified into three groups according to level of physical activity, taking into account the metabolic equivalent index (MET) over a full week. For comparison, consideration was given to the first and third tertiles, respectively, namely groups of more and less active students. The results indicated that individuals who engaged in more physical activity had a more positive perception of quality of life compared to those who were less active in physical aspects related to the ability to work, energy for day-to-day activities and locomotion.

Descritores: Violência; Idoso; Qualidade de Vida; Exposição à Violência; Autoimagem; Determinantes sociais de Saúde.ABSTRACT Objective: to describe experiences of violence and self-perception of quality of life and health after 60 years of age. Method: quantitative, cross - sectional and descriptive study developed with 100 elderly. Data collection was used for the Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREEF), Mental State Assessment and questionnaire on the occurrence of violence. Results: there was a higher frequency of female elderly (62%), incomplete primary education (43%) and family income up to a minimum wage (46%). More than half of the elderly (62%) reported not having a good quality of life, and 38% described feelings compatible with despair, anxiety and depression. It was observed that 73% suffered some form of violence, including insult and discrimination (40% and 35% respectively), abandonment (31%), financial abuse (15%) and physical aggression (12%). There was no relation between suffering violence and self-perception of health and quality of life (p-value 0.5587). Conclusion: the importance of the identification and magnitude of violence in this population segment is highlighted, since interdisciplinary and intersectoral interventions need to be articulated with the health sector and, thus, to favor the protagonism of the elderly in confronting violence. ObjectiveTo evaluate the main symptoms associated catastrophizing in women with fibromyalgia and migraine.MethodologyWe conducted an observational study with 26 women diagnosed with both fibromyalgia and migraine, aged between 30 and 60 years (46±8 years). The Pain Catastrophizing Scale was applied as a cut-of point =30, dividing the volunteers in groups with (n=18) and without catastrophizing (n=8). We assessed the quality of sleep (Pittsburgh sleep quality index), the presence of depression and anxiety (Becks depression and anxiety inventories), the quality of life perception (Fibromyalgia impact questionnaire-revised), the disability due to migraine (Migraine disability assessment) and the level of physical activity (International physical activity questionnaire).ResultsThe time of fibromyalgia did not difer (p=0.80) between the group with (8.54±4.88) and without catastrophizing (10.04±3.47). The Fibromyalgia impact questionnaire-revised scores were significantly higher (p=0.01) among women with catastrophizing (78±12.6) than those without (56.6±22.3). There was no diference between the groups (p>0.05) in relation to the other outcomes evaluated.ConclusionThe presence of catastrophizing in women with fibromyalgia and migraine are associated with a worse perception of quality of life. a worse perception of quality of life.
